This chapter examines individual treatment for clients who rape or attempt to rape adult women. The key characteristics, psychopathologies, and treatment needs of this client group are described. The contemporary treatment of rapists more generally is also discussed alongside my own approaches to treatment with this client group. A case study description of a mentally disordered client who has raped is then presented and discussed with particular reference to the assessment process and the concepts of shame, self-esteem, attitudes towards women and relationships, and inappropriate sexual interest. The chapter closes with conclusions regarding individualized treatment for men who rape.
