The rate of transfer of kinetic energy between the different scales of eddies of the 500 mb geostrophic wind has been measured for each day of 1951. In the mean, there is a net transfer from intermediate (cyclone) scales to both longer and shorter scales.DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1960.tb01324.x
