Wet deposition of elemental carbon and sulfate in Sweden

Elemental carbon and sulfate were measured in monthly precipitation samples at 12 rural sites inSweden from April to August, 1981. Wet deposition of excess sulfate was significantly correlatedwith elemental carbon deposition, and no systematic spatial or temporal variations in the ratio ofexcess sulfate to elemental carbon were observed. Comparision of these results with sulfur andelemental carbon emissions in Western Europe suggests that elemental carbon is removed at aslower rate than sulfur for the first day or so after emission.DOI: 10.1111/j.1600-0889.1984.tb00246.x
