Analysis of Equation of State for Semiconductors

The equation of state is a fundamental relation between pressure temperature and volume to analyse the thermophysical properties of different class of solids. The Taits equation of state is applied to study the compression of some important semiconductor solids. The equation is further extended for the study of thermal expansion of these solids by introducing simple concept of thermal pressure. It is found that both original and modified Taits equations of state show good agreement between obtained results and available experimental results. It has been emphasized that although there are a lot of equations of state in literature, still Taits and modified Taits equations of state successfully explain compression and thermal expansion behavior of not only metals and minerals but also semiconductor solids.
