Abstract
The compilation of the information on petroglyphs as well as on the open-air and cave sites with paintings included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and UNESCO Tentative List gives an opportunity to understand the cultural and iconographic diversity of the rock art sites of the various chronology. In the UNESCO Heritage List there are 42 rock art regions of the outstanding attractive artistic traditions. There are only two rock art sites in Russia which are in the UNESCO Tentative List, i.e. rock art site of Sikachi-Alyan in the Khabarovsk region and Shulgan-Tash (Kapova cave) in Bashkortostan.
