Do Montessori i preschooler become a creative teenager? Middle childhood experience and creativity in adolescence

Montessori pedagogy belongs to the alternative approaches in education and its popularity increases in Poland continuously from 90s. last age. More and more parents putting the question connected with a kindergarten for their child consider not only public kindergarten but also the alternative one.The paper aims to answer the question whether Montessori preschool education can influence creativity development in the kindergarten graduates. Research project based on quality approach and used multiple case study as a methodology. Research was conducted in July and August 2012 in Kraków. Participants were teenagers with minimum 3 years Montessori preschool experience. In the individual sessions there were interviewed ten graduates from Krakow Montessori kindergarten. As measurement tools there were used: a structured interview, Locus of Control Questionnaire PK-4 by Bryant and The Creative Behaviour Questionnaire by Stanislaw Popek. The research results were analyzed in such categories as: conformism, algorithmic behavior, the behavior of heuristics, nonconformity. Results were interpreted in the term of cognitive functioning style and motivation in research participants.Research conclusions allow the assumption that participants were independent, active, open-minded, resilient and persistent. They learned independently, and presented understanding and reflexivity in thinking. Algorithmic behavior encountered very rarely. Research results show that Montessori preschool child has got a great chance to be a creative teenagerin the future.
