QTL analysis for survival traits For simple and complex animal and human population designs, linkage methods for quantitative traits have been well established. In particular, simple linear regression methods have been developed that are as powerful as the more computationally intensive maximum likelihood methods. A usual assumption for these methods is that the quantitative trait is normally distributed in the population. We have shown that violations of this assumption do not necessarily lead to a reduction in power, in particular if a significance threshold that is appropriate for the actual distribution of the data is used.
