My proposed research program involves developing new statistical and computational tools for resolving important genetic variation in human pathogens. I believe the right approach to study their genomes is to use the entire corpus of known sequence and variation for a species as the central object of comparison, not a reference. With my software. sequence data from a bacterial sample can be compared with all previous strains in minutes.
