Family Memory in Teaching the Normalization: Large and Small Stories of Modern History

Abstract

The article stands on the edge of educational applications and methodological reflection of the use of oral history in teaching Czechoslovak history for the period 1968-1989. In the introduction, the author formulates his opinion about the importance of memory in history teaching in Czech schools. There follows the description of the project Large and small stories of modern history, provided by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in Prague, focused on the methodological basis and structure of the three years of the project completed so far. In the final part the author considers the possible analysis and interpretation of the materials and focuses especially on family relations and cultural memory.
