Ensimmäinen hetki : taidenäyttelyn teokset formalistisesti

Abstract

The purpose of my thesis was to study artworks presented at art exhibition using formalistic analysis. The study was part of an artistic research in which the result was both the objective as well as the outcome of the study. Artistic research is a method of research in which the artist deliberately starts to reflect on their work and studies his/her own works and how they were made. Tools used to make works vary from digital drawings to sculpting and painting. Only one significant art genre was not studied during the research among the finished works, the subjects of which varied from abstract sculptures to still life utilizing conceptual art. The process began with an idea that was followed by the study and sketching. After the sketches, the actual creation of works begun where final layout and coloration got their shape. This process was flexible as in some cases finalized shape was not clearly defined at the beginning. The artistic research gave clear information about strengths and weaknesses of existing professional skill. The tools which were familiar became more familiar and less familiar tools were learned.
