The subject of this work is the development of a method for both the identification and the avoidance of impulsive helicopter noise due to blade-vortex interactions (BVI). The method is based on the design and simulation of a simplified neural model of the rotor vortex wake. This data-driven wake model considers changes in the flight or trim states as well as (higher harmonic) individual blade control inputs of the active rotor control system. The control strategy, which was derived from model simulation, is validated in several flight tests under mainly dynamic flight conditions.
