The aim of FEAT is to stimulate take-up of FET research results and create internationally significant new forms of impact and innovation by embedding and supporting high profile international artists to develop innovative artworks through deep engagements with FET projects. The project will embed six artists within FET projects where they will collaborate to develop and create new artworks that will be showcased internationally through exhibitions, participatory workshops, debates and media campaigns, concluding with a significant final exhibition and symposium. The project will enable FET researchers to work collaboratively with leading artists to develop new artworks that critically work with and reflect on FET project research and results to enable radically new technologies to reach the widest possible audiences through international exhibitions, the global media and socially engaged participatory events including festivals, debates, workshops and discussion events. FEAT will demonstrate how novel perspectives on ways that FET results can be used for social innovation and global development will arise through the process of collaboration and dissemination of the work. We will give confidence to FET researchers to enable them to embrace creative interactions for innovation by providing new frameworks for successfully collaborating with artists to drive innovation in Europe. Our measureable high-impact outputs will prompt new ways of thinking about ways in which FET results are shared by reaching out to non-traditional, diverse audiences and stakeholders in ways that are meaningful to them, through critical reflections, and both emotional and intellectual engagements. By catching the imagination of the public and the media by providing tangible contexts for radically new technologies within our future cultural life and enabling a space for societal debate we will significantly enhance take-up of FET research results.

Science, technology and arts limn a nexus at which observers have identified extraordinarily high potential for innovation. And innovation is precisely what’s called for if we’re to master the social, ecological and economic challenges that Europe will be facing in the future. The STARTS Prize initiative will focus on the most forward looking collaborations at the crossings of art, science, technology, industry and society, will showcase achievements and encourage further collaborations and will honor the inspiring individuals and teams behind these achievements. Here, art is assigned the role of catalyst that propagates scientific and technological knowledge and skills among the general public and triggers innovative processes. Accordingly, the STARTS Prize is emphasizing, on one hand, artistic works that influence or change the way we look at technology, and, on the other hand, very promising forms of collaboration between the private sector and the world of art and culture. 8 prizewinning projects will be singled out for recognition in both categories and will be awarded each with €20,000. To provide the best possible environment for an international launch of the STARTS prize the project is linked to the PRIX ARS ELECTRONICA, one of the world’s premier awards honoring creativity and innovativeness at the interface of art, technology, science and society. The collaboration with the renowned institutions Ars Electronica, Waag Society and BOZAR allows a fast introduction to the relevant communities on an international scale and provide the necessary expertise. Their large international network assures recruiting the best possible experts to ensure a high quality in the evaluation and selection of the prize winners. The presentation of the awards and the exhibition of the prize winning works at the Ars Electronica Festival, the BOZAR Electronic Art Festival, Waag Society and eight additional major events will foster a high interest and establish reputation for the STARTS prize.

VOICE aims to address the complex social and cultural constructs that play a vital role in knowledge valorisation and supporting systemic change in societal response to environmental and ecological sustainability. Arts and cultural institutions can act as a platform for collaboration between citizens, industry, and other stakeholders, both by providing a cultural space for dialogue and by integrating diverse creative expressions and digital innovation in 'real world' contexts to enhance co-creation with citizens and industry. Acting in a coordinated manner with shared aims, definitions, intentions and with an Inclusive Design methodology underpinning all engagements, it is possible to showcase innovative approaches to sustainable design, production, and consumption that can inspire citizens and industry to think creatively and differently about sustainability challenges. VOICE proposes a distinct approach framed as artist-driven interventions to enable multi-stakeholder communities to engage in dialogue but also collaborate for co-designed green and digital solutions to remedy regional or local challenges related to environmental and ecological sustainability and leading to a more resilient ecosystem. Formulated as Art-Technology-Society Interactions (ATSI), these initiatives will form the backbone of artist-led interventions as platforms for dialogue, knowledge exchange and transfer among the key players/stakeholders in the VOICE ecosystem.
