    Re-purposing and re-using digital content is of vital importance to broadcasters and other stakeholders in European media value chains. High initial production or acquisition costs need to be recouped, but the abundance of online channels creates a thin viewer market for original content, especially on niche topics. Live and on-demand viewing is now spread across Smart TVs, Web and mobile applications, social media and other emerging platforms (to be referred to as “vectors”). This introduces an important challenge: How should broadcasters decide when, in what form and on which vector(s) to deliver which content? We propose the Trans-Vector Platform (TVP) to address this challenge and help media companies gain a competitive advantage through guided content re-purposing and re-publication, on the fly and across vectors. The TVP requires novel methods to extract metadata, predict patterns in the topic-vector-audience matrix, and apply these patterns to enhance and re-purpose content - across vectors and according to predicted audience interests. Thus, ReTV will advance the state of the art in video analysis, video augmentation and annotation, content and audience metrics, prediction and recommendation models, visual analytics. The results of this extensive research will be tested and validated together with a regional public broadcaster (RBB), a national TV archive (NISV) and an OTT TV distributor operating in multiple EU markets (Zattoo). ReTV will offer them a better match between content and viewers across vectors, time and five EU languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch). Impact will be measured via cross-vector deployment and viewer engagement. Automated re-purposing and more accurate targeting in terms of relevance and appropriate representation, tailored to upcoming events and specific vector audiences, will drive growth, lower costs, and increase the competitiveness of broadcasters and other professional stakeholders in European media value chains.

    RECHARGE is about participation and the value of cultural heritage and its institutions. RECHARGE is about participation and the value of cultural heritage and its institutions. Emerging from the pandemic, the role played by many CHIs in keeping citizens engaged and mentally healthy through a variety of creative initiatives is widely acknowledged; however, this was also a time of financial loss. Turning that creativity into money that keeps the institution afloat is the challenge RECHARGE is set to answer. Participation is core to the value proposition of cultural heritage institutions and can be the means through which communities - whether corporates, citizens or other CHIs - become CHIs’ stakeholders. RECHARGE will set up an iterative and intrinsically participatory environment -the Living Labs- as means to co-create and prototype participatory business models. The consortium will actively document and analyse this process, which will result in economic measures of effectiveness, indicators of sustainability and participation, museologic reprofiling of social and cultural spaces, cultural and social valuation, and managerial development of participatory business models. Combining both rigorous academic research and hands-on analysis through the Living Lab, RECHARGE will deliver a Playbook containing the ingredients and recipes that can be adapted to local environments to create participatory business models for their communities. The online Knowledge Base, populated with research results, will support the uptake in the sector and among interested communities, while the Academy will engage the CHI networks and build capacity to make a real difference in the landscape of CHIs. RECHARGE boasts a multidisciplinary team bringing together different university departments, independent research organizations and CHI representatives from six EU countries. Together, we will make the CH sector more resilient and better equipped to deal with future challenges and transitions

    Polifonia implements a digital ecosystem for European Musical Heritage: music objects along with relevant related knowledge about their cultural and historical context, expressed in different languages and styles, and across centuries. The ecosystem will include methods, tools, guidelines, experiences, and creative designs, openly shared according to F.A.I.R. principles. The aim is to provoke a paradigm shift in musical heritage preservation, management, studying, interaction, and exploitation. Ten pilots, spanning from historical bells and organ heritage, classification of polyphonic notated music, to the historical role of music in children's lives, will drive the development of the ecosystem through continuous validation of its technologies. The Web, its standard formats and protocols are used as its reference architecture. Knowledge graphs are the enabling technology for integrating, representing, and interlinking music-related data with heterogeneous and distributed provenance. Dedicated research in Semantic Web, Data Science, Machine Learning, Language Technologies, and Human-Machine Interaction will enable discovery and automatic analysis of massive data, as well as their reuse for research, consumption and promotion. The project is conceived by an interdisciplinary team of passionate researchers and curators: computer scientists, anthropologists and ethnomusicologists, historians of music, linguists, musical heritage archivists, cataloguers and administrators, and creative professionals. They bring real-world use cases to define the ten pilots. The planned dissemination and exploitation actions allow the creation of a stakeholder network since the early stage of the project. Specific initiatives address societal and economic challenges: increased accessibility to musical heritage for people with disabilities; reproducible and sustainable creative designs for promoting musical heritage; increased engagement of young female students in STEM curricula.
