<< Background >>The music industry has been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with its main activities put on hold since March 2020 across Europe. It is likely to not recover fully for at least another two - three years. Those working in the music industry are now facing unprecedented financial disaster due to coronavirus. Musicians and music workers are in a social and economic uncertainty and as a consequence they feel frustrated, depressed and disengaged in the music community. The OECD June 2020 report, “Evaluating the initial impact of COVID-19 containment measures on economic activity” demonstrates the risks are high for creators, artists and those working in the entertainment sector – a group of workers who are already vulnerable. Artists could be uniquely vulnerable to psychological challenges associated with the COVID-19 outbreak through the forced separation of material, social, and mental spaces, in addition to general psychological distress related to the pandemic and unemployment (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2021.577882/full).<< Objectives >>Given the addressed challenges and needs, as a consequence, it’s necessary for this target group to update their competences in business, such as in marketing, entrepreneurship, promotion, as well as self-employment skills. The SOE project aims to encourage unemployed/disengaged musicians and music industry workers to adopt a more inclusive and sustainable personal development through empowerment, self-marketing and entrepreneurial skills. Musicians, music industry workers and aspiring music industry entrepreneurs will be provided with a new learning path related to the development of basic and transversal skills, innovative managerial competencies and entrepreneurial spirit and to validate the updated and transferred competencies. Through the learning tools provided, they will be able to empower themselves and improve their working conditions, thus having a positive impact on their physical and mental health, and personal development. The project will also help build their resilience on how to overcome issues brought on by the pandemic. Adult educators who work closely with musicians and music industry workers will be engaged from the start of the project and trained on how to use non-formal approaches within entrepreneurship education for musicians, music industry workers and aspiring music industry entrepreneurs, based on art and music business experiences<< Implementation >>The activities during the project lifetime include face to face and online consortium transnational meetings, engagement with the target group and stakeholder representatives through mapping and focus groups/interviews, a 4-day transnational training for adult educators who work closely with musicians and music industry workers, testing activities of the developed results as well as production of the project results with active inclusion of participants from the music industry and multiplier events to share and promote the final results. The project will transfer competencies about the creation and running of a company in a first phase to adult educators and in a following phase to learners, through the production of 4 project results using a non-formal approach based on the idea that music (taking the success story of some Rock bands as best practice examples for working in the music business) can be used as a cue to train musicians, music industry workers and aspiring music industry entrepreneurs about business and entrepreneurship. The music genre can be adapted accordingly to the target group to ensure stronger replicability. In this case, rock has been chosen on the basis of the type of target group. Project Cycle Management approach, that will be used alongside the non-formal approach based on music, will help participants focus on real needs, and in providing potential solutions to these needs through their business ideas. The Training Course for adult educators who work closely with musicians and music industry workers will be a test for the refinement of the project results Events will be organised in each partner country involving also local bands/musicians to promote the project results.<< Results >>The results of the project are interconnected to ensure a cohesive project. The central outcomes of the SOE project - Training Tools for Music Entrepreneurship Education and Learning Platform will be interactive learning resources that will equip adult educators who work closely with musicians and music industry workers with the knowledge and tools to lead face-to-face or virtual training activities with their learners based on music entrepreneurship education. The target group of musicians, music industry workers and aspiring music industry entrepreneurs will have access to a learning platform that will facilitate self-directed ì.e. learning in a safe learning environment as well as access to a wide range of innovative learning resources that will be made available to download from the platform. The Learning Documentary provides further exploration in the project themes but in a fun and educational to demonstrate to musicians, music industry workers and aspiring music industry entrepreneurs the key learning concepts. The Protocol for Certification of Competencies will be a competence validation model that will ensure sustainability of the learning path created for the adult learners
