    Project: High resolution structural analysis of purified HTT proteins Experiment: Cloning and test expression of HTT fragment clones Date completed:­ 2019/02/28 Rationale: I aim to complement our previous work on purifying stable regions of huntingtin by cloning further regions of huntingtin corresponding to discrete HEAT repeats for eukaryotic expression. Constructs will initially be screened by BVES in insect sf9 cells. High quality constructs will undergo extensive crystallization experiments and structure determination by X-ray crystallography using well established high-throughput and systematic protocols in place at the SGC. Any solved structures may allow generation of a pseudoatomic resolution (<4 Å) model of the HTT protein using the cryoEM model as a guide. Dr. Harding is the recipient of the Huntington's Disease Society of America Berman Topper Career Development Fellowship which funds and supports this research, in addition to generous funding from the CHDI Foundation and the Huntington Society of Canada.     QCD sum-rule calculations contain loop-integration divergences associated with composite operators in correlation functions that must be renormalized to obtain physical predictions. ��The standard approach to renormalization through operator mixing can present technical challenges in situations where the basis of operators becomes large (e.g., for multi-quark operators). The BPH renormalization method provides an alternative to the standard method of operator mixing and Lagrangian counter-term renormalization.��The BPH method consists of dividing Feynman diagrams into subdiagrams and subtracting the divergent part of each subdiagram. In this talk, I will present the BPH diagrammatic renormalization method and show an example of its application to the correlation function of gluon and mesonic composite operators.

    One of the most important drivers of local adaptation for forest trees is climate. Coupled to these patterns, however, are human-induced disturbances through habitat modification and pollution. The confounded effects of climate and disturbance have rarely been investigated with regard to selective pressure on forest trees. Here, we have developed and used a population genetic approach to search for signals of selection within a set of 36 candidate genes chosen for their putative effects on adaptation to climate and human-induced air pollution within five populations of red spruce (Picea rubens Sarg.), distributed across its natural range and air pollution gradient in eastern North America. Specifically, we used FST outlier and environmental correlation analyses to highlight a set of seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that were overly correlated with climate and levels of sulphate pollution after correcting for the confounding effects of population history. Use of three age cohorts within each population allowed the effects of climate and pollution to be separated temporally, as climate-related SNPs (n = 7) showed the strongest signals in the oldest cohort, while pollution-related SNPs (n = 3) showed the strongest signals in the youngest cohorts. These results highlight the usefulness of population genetic scans for the identification of putatively nonneutral evolution within genomes of nonmodel forest tree species, but also highlight the need for the development and application of robust methodologies to deal with the inherent multivariate nature of the genetic and ecological data used in these types of analyses.     CERN-LHC. Study of events from proton-proton interactions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV which have final states comprising exclusively one or two leptons (either electrons or muons), large missing transverse momentum, light flavour jets and b-jets. The data sample used has an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb-1. The data are analysed in the framework of MSSM assuming the top squark decays exclusively to a chargino and b-quark. The data is divided into three signal regions, one (1LSR) requiring only one lepton with two light-quark jets and 2 b-jets, and two (2LSR1 and 2LSR2) requiring only two leptons and two leading jets with different requirements on the minimum energy and invariant mass of the specific subsystem from the hard-scattering process.     Project: High resolution structural analysis of purified HTT proteins Experiment: Cloning and test expression of HTT fragment clones Date completed:­ 2019/02/28 Rationale: I aim to complement our previous work on purifying stable regions of huntingtin by cloning further regions of huntingtin corresponding to discrete HEAT repeats for eukaryotic expression. Constructs will initially be screened by BVES in insect sf9 cells. High quality constructs will undergo extensive crystallization experiments and structure determination by X-ray crystallography using well established high-throughput and systematic protocols in place at the SGC. Any solved structures may allow generation of a pseudoatomic resolution (<4 Å) model of the HTT protein using the cryoEM model as a guide. Dr. Harding is the recipient of the Huntington's Disease Society of America Berman Topper Career Development Fellowship which funds and supports this research, in addition to generous funding from the CHDI Foundation and the Huntington Society of Canada.     QCD sum-rule calculations contain loop-integration divergences associated with composite operators in correlation functions that must be renormalized to obtain physical predictions. ��The standard approach to renormalization through operator mixing can present technical challenges in situations where the basis of operators becomes large (e.g., for multi-quark operators). The BPH renormalization method provides an alternative to the standard method of operator mixing and Lagrangian counter-term renormalization.��The BPH method consists of dividing Feynman diagrams into subdiagrams and subtracting the divergent part of each subdiagram. In this talk, I will present the BPH diagrammatic renormalization method and show an example of its application to the correlation function of gluon and mesonic composite operators.

Am Johal interviews Binners’ Project staff members Davin Boutang and Anna Godefroy about their beginnings and evolution as an organization. They discuss their Universal Carts Initiative, the Coffee Cup Revolution and how the project has grown in its capacity to create opportunities for binners, destigmatizing the work they do in diverting waste from landfills.
