"We arrive in Accra, Gold Coast aboard a Pan-American Clipper. At six o'clock in the morning [it] was hot and humid." An aircraft from the Pan-American company that brought Eldred Echols and Boyd Reese, American missionaries from Churches of Christ, to Accra, Ghana. This photograph comes from an album that recounts Eldred Echols and Boyd Reese's visit to Nigeria in 1950. The Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ in Nashville, Texas asked the two missionaries to visit Nigeria and report on an emerging indigenous Christian movement whose leader participated in a Bible correspondence course run by the Tennessee congregation. Upon their arrival, the missionaries found several thousand Christians led by Coolidge Akpan Okon Essien, from the Efik tribe in Eastern Nigeria, whose doctrine and practice were similar to that of American Churches of Christ.

The Seattle Household Travel Survey Wave 5, 1994 is the fifth wave in a ten-part longitudinal panel survey of the travel patterns of households in the Puget Sound region of Washington state. The survey series was initiated in 1989 by the Puget Sound Council of Governments (now known as the Puget Sound Regional Council); wave 5 was conducted in 1994. This collection contains the fifth set of panel data for approximately 2,000 households in King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Due to various sources of attrition, approximately 20 percent of households need to be replaced for each survey wave. The survey relied on the willingness of study area residents to (1) provide demographic information about the household, its members, and its vehicles, (2) document all travel for each household member, aged 15 years or older, for an assigned 2-day period, and (3) agree to participate in additional survey waves. After an initial telephone screening, survey participants received mailed travel diaries to aid in documenting travel information for the 2-day assessment period. Respondents were instructed to record their mode of transportation, trip purpose, number of passengers, departure and arrival times, ride fare, and parking cost. Demographic information for this study includes age, gender, education, employment status, and household income. mail questionnaire; telephone interviewThe deposited study documentation for this wave did not include recruitment or retrieval questionnaires. Therefore, this collection has been minimally processed by ICPSR.Users may notice that study documentation refers to the "Puget Sound Transportation Panel". ICPSR has retained the "Seattle Household Travel Survey" title that was provided by the data depositor. No additional information was provided regarding the title discrepancy. For additional information on all waves of the Seattle Household Travel Survey, please visit the Metropolitan Travel Survey Archive Web site and the Puget Sound Regional Council Web site. The panel was undertaken to serve three basic objectives: (1) to be a metropolitan "current population survey" to track changes in employment, work characteristics, household composition, and vehicle availability; (2) to monitor changes in travel behavior and responses to changes in the transportation environment; and (3) to examine changes in attitudes and values as they affect mode choice and travel behavior. Information gained from the panel has aided long range transportation forecasting and analysis used in decisions regarding highway and road construction, transit development, and carpooling and parking policies. The data contain weight variables "HWGT" (Household weight) and "PWGT" (Person weight) that may be used in data analysis. For additional weighting information, please see the Original P.I. Documentation section of the ICPSR Codebook. Households within the four county Seattle region (King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties). Publisher: Oregon State UniversityThis data provides observations and measurements used to answer questions of interest regarding how setback crosswalks at intersections affect driver behavior and intersection safety as part of the study titled “SPR840 Safest Placement for Crosswalks at Intersections.” Data includes measurements from the simulator portion of the study which gathered information relating to average velocity and lateral position, eye-tracking fixations, galvanic skin response, and survey data to describe driver behavior as they approach and make turning movements at intersections with different configurations. The data also includes the measurements from the field portion of the study used to assess post encroachment times (PETs), turning speeds and conflict severity that were extracted from field-collected videos in 10 crosswalks in Oregon.

Simulation-based testing supports the challenging task of safety validation of automated driving functions. Virtual testing always entails the modeling of automotive perception sensors and their environment. In the real world, these sensors are not only exposed to weather conditions like rain, fog, snow etc., but environmental influences also appear locally. Road spray is one of the more challenging occurrences, because it involves other moving objects in the scenario. This data set is designed to systematically analyze the influence of road spray on lidar and radar sensors. It consists of sensor measurements of two vehicle classes driving over asphalt with three water levels to differentiate multiple influence factors.

Abstract: This article estimates economic losses associated with urban mobility problems in Brazil by calculating the average production loss due to commuting time to work, using data from the 2010 Demographic Census. The results are presented in absolute and relative values (% of GDP) for States, Metropolitan Regions (RMs) and municipalities in Brazil, with emphasis on the difference in time spent in RMs and municipalities and the interior of each state. The results were significant, and the total estimated loss is 1.8% of GDP. If the commuting time in the RMs were equal to those of municipalities in the interior, there would be a reduction of 27.6% (R$ 26.7 billion) of total losses, suggesting that improvements in urban mobility can bring great social returns.
