Dataset from Varrica A, Satriano A, Frigiola A, Giamberti A. Autograft Wrapping Reinforcement in Adolescents Undergoing Ross Operation: A Tailored Coat. Ann Thorac Surg. 2021 Jul 1:S0003-4975(21)01093-6. doi: 10.1016/j.athoracsur.2021.05.087. Epub ahead of print. PMID: 34217690. Abstract Background: The Ross operation is a good surgical option for the pediatric population with aortic valve disease. However, the need for reoperation due to aortic root dilatation remains the principal limitation of this procedure. We report a small series of adolescents who underwent the Ross operation with Gore-Tex (W. L. Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, AZ) membrane reinforcement to avoid the progressive dilatation of the neoaortic root. Methods: Between March 2002 and March 2010, 15 adolescent patients underwent a modified Ross procedure with the autograft wrapping with 0.1-mm Gore Preclude (W. L. Gore & Associates) pericardial membrane. Follow-up was performed by clinical and echocardiographic controls. Results: These patients were a mean age of 15 1.4 years. The mean aortic cross-clamp time was 130 17 minutes. The mean cardiopulmonary bypass time was 187 27 minutes. There was no hospital mortality. The mean follow-up was 15 2.5 years (range, 9.7-17.7 years). During the follow-up, 1 patient required aortic valve reoperation for cusps prolapse. The mean diameters of annulus (22.8 1.8 mm vs 23.3 1.5 mm, P = .12), aortic root (27.4 1.4 mm vs 28.2 0.8 mm, P = .09), and sinotubular junction (24.3 1.1 mm vs 25.1 0.7 mm, P = .11) were not statistically different between discharge and follow-up. Conclusions: The wrapping reinforcement autograft in the Ross procedure with Gore-Tex membrane is simple, safe, and does not require significant additional time. Our results showed good early and long-term outcomes for reoperation, aortic root dilatation, and aortic valve degeneration.

Prevalence and Effects of Cigarette Smoking, Cannabis Consumption, and Co-use in Adults From 15 Countries With Congenital Heart Disease. Can J Cardiol. 2019 Dec;35(12):1842-1850. doi: 10.1016/j.cjca.2019.07.635. Epub 2019 Aug 14. PMID: 31813510. This is the abstract: Background: The prevalence and effects of cigarette smoking and cannabis use in persons with congenital heart disease (CHD) are poorly understood. We (1) described the prevalence of cigarette smoking, cannabis consumption, and co-use in adults with CHD; (2) investigated intercountry differences; (3) tested the relative effects on physical functioning, mental health, and quality of life (QOL); and (4) quantified the differential effect of cigarette smoking, cannabis use, or co-use on those outcomes. Methods: APPROACH-IS was a cross-sectional study, including 4028 adults with CHD from 15 countries. Patients completed questionnaires to measure physical functioning, mental health, and QOL. Smoking status and cannabis use were assessed by means of the Health Behaviour Scale-Congenital Heart Disease. Linear models with doubly robust estimations were computed after groups were balanced with the use of propensity weighting. Results: Overall, 14% of men and 11% of women smoked cigarettes only; 8% of men and 4% of women consumed cannabis only; and 4% of men and 1% of women used both substances. Large intercountry variations were observed, with Switzerland having the highest prevalence for smoking cigarettes (24% of men, 19% of women) and Canada the highest for cannabis use (19% of men, 4% of women). Cigarette smoking had a small negative effect on patient-reported outcomes, and the effect of cannabis was negligible. The effect of co-use was more prominent, with a moderate negative effect on mental health. Conclusions: We found significant intercountry variability in cigarette and cannabis use in adults with CHD. Co-use has the most detrimental effects on patient-reported outcomes.

Modern 3D vision advancements rely on data driven methods and thus, task specific annotated datasets. Especially for geometric inference tasks like depth and surface estimation, the collection of high quality data is very challenging, expensive and laborious. While considerable efforts have been made for traditional pinhole cameras, the same cannot be said for omnidirectional ones. 3D60 is a collective dataset generated in the context of various 360o vision research works. It comprises multi-modal omnidirectional stereo renders of scenes from realistic and synthetic large-scale 3D datasets (Matterport3D, Stanford2D3D and SunCG). Our dataset fills a very important gap in data-driven spherical 3D vision and, more specifically, for the monocular and stereo dense depth and surface estimation tasks. We originate by exploiting the efforts made in providing synthetic and real scanned 3D datasets of interior spaces and re-using them via ray-tracing in order to generate high quality, densely annotated spherical panoramas.
