    Mathissen, Marcel;

    This dataset is brake wear cycle that was used as a reference cycle in the EU co-funded project LOWBRASYS which aims at particle reduction from automotive brakes. One task within the LOWBRASYS project was to define a real-drive braking schedule. This cycle is a short version of an existing brake procedure (Los Angeles City Traffic (LACT)) that was generated from actual on-road driving data and addresses typical urban, extra-urban and highway drive conditions. It is noteworthy that another real-world cycle has been developed [Mathissen et al. 2018]. The main difference between the two newly developed cycles is that the present LOWBRASYS cycle is based on a limited dataset from a specific region, while the other cycle is based on the WLTP database, which covers much more use-case and driving conditions. The PMP IWG has decided to use the present cycle as a backup cycle for future brake wear emissions evaluation.

    In this study, we consider the estimation of the location parameter and the scale parameter of the shifted Gompertz (SG) distribution. We obtain the closed form estimators of these parameters by using the modified maximum likelihood (MML) methodology originated by Tiku (1967). We also compare the efficiencies of these estimators with the well-known and widely used least squares (LS) and maximum likelihood (ML) estimators via Monte-Carlo simulation study in terms of bias, mean square error (MSE) and deficiency (Def) criteria. In addition, we evaluate the performances of the proposed estimators when the data contains the outliers or is contaminated. In other words, the robustness properties of the estimators are investigated. A real data set is analyzed to demonstrate the implementation of the estimation methods at the end of the study.

    The problem of inter-industry comparison of financial ratios of publicly traded Japanese and Chinese firms is addressed. This problem is very important because Japan and China have respectively the world's second and third largest economy, the trade volume between them is very large and many investors are searching for Japanese and Chinese investment opportunities. The most familiar methods for comparing financial ratios are MANOVA and MDA. When used for analyzing financial data, these methods have many shortcomings. We use an alternative method that does not require any stringent assumptions and that is particularly suitable for financial data because it is very robust against skewness and heavy tailness, takes into account the possible difference in variability as well as the dependence among the financial ratios. Recent data about the most familiar valuation ratios have been analyzed. It is found that industry sectors of Japanese firms are generally more different than those of Chinese firms. In general, with few exceptions, the difference between industry sectors is high. The most different financial ratio and the lest different one are respectively the price to sale ratio and the price to earnings ratio for both Chinese and Japanese firms.

    The socio-economic crisis in 2011 caused a decrease in living standards for a large part of the Portuguese population, especially after the implementation of a new austerity programme. At the same time the country saw an increase in alternative projects such as: self-organised cultural centres; urban gardening groups; and solidarity-based exchange networks. The main aim of this contribution is to analyse how the crisis impacted these projects in Portugal in cities and also rural areas. The argument that the crisis had an adverse effect on resilience projects is strengthened by the results of case studies in other countries affected by the crisis and by empirical observations regarding the case of Portugal. After having reviewed the scarce literature on social resilience and alternative projects I present data from an analysis of internet pages and a questionnaire on the impact of the socio-economic crisis on the projects of Rede Convergir in 2015.

    The U.S. Geological Survey Coastal and Marine Geology Program has actively collected geophysical and sedimentological data in the northern Gulf of Mexico for several decades, including shallow subsurface data in the form of high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles (HRSP). Prior to the mid-1990s most HRSP data were collected in analog format as paper rolls of continuous profiles up to 25 meters long. As part of the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program, scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center are converting the analog paper records to digital format using a large-format continuous scanner. This data release serves as an archive of seismic profiles with headers, converted SEG-Y files, navigation data, and trackline shapefiles for digitized boomer seismic data collected from the Research Vessel (R/V) Erda during two cruises in 1990 and 1991 (Figure 1). The Erda 90-1 geophysical cruise was conducted in two legs. The first leg included seismic data collected from the Hancock County region of the Mississippi Sound (Erda 90-1_HC) from June 4 to June 6, 1990. The second leg included seismic data collected from the Petit Bois Pass area of Mississippi Sound (Erda 90-1_PBP) from June 8 to June 9, 1990. The Erda 91-3 cruise occurred between September 12 and September 23, 1991 and surveyed the Mississippi Sound region just west of Horn Island, Mississippi. Additional project and data rescue details are included in the associated USGS Data Series 1047.
