    Mainly in the mass media, the operating of the wholesale electricity market in Spain is under of controversy because of the sensitivity of end consumers to the price of their electricity bill. Part of the controversy derives from possible collusive behavior from the main generation companies due they shared 55% of wholesale market. The goal of this paper is to design a tool to detect anomalies in determining electricity prices on that market. The tool claim to be used by supervisory agencies with responsibility on this market. The tool is based on a spatial LMDI-I decomposition analysis. This methodological approach has been less developed in the literature than the temporal LMDI-I analysis. Decomposition is applied to the differences between the daily cost and monthly average cost of electricity generation. To test the smooth functioning of the tool, data was taken for a period of time in which the supervisory agency sanctioned proceedings for generation companies but also for control periods of time when no sanctions were imposed. The decomposition analysis used the price, structure and scale effects as the decomposition effects. The proposed tool has allowed us to capture anomalous behaviours of the electricity costs in the electricity wholesale market for the same periods in which the supervisory agency in charge initiated sanctioning proceedings. These anomalies do not appear in the control periods for which the tool was tested.     Tourism is a major economic activity constituting one of the main sectors in economic terms. European countries traditionally play a significant role in the overall international tourism flow. However, while tourism has a noticeable positive impact on economic development, it also contributes to environmental degradation by increasing energy consumption and therefore emissions. This paper analyses the relationships between Hotel and Restaurant electricity consumption and tourism growth in 9 European countries during 2004-2012, for which there is a sufficient amount of data available. A decomposition analysis based on log-mean Divisia index method (LMDI I) is conducted to examine electricity consumption on this sector and their components. Five decomposition factors are considered: energy intensity (EI), physical capital intensity (KI), physical and human capital relationship (KL), human capital intensity (LI) and the tourism factor (T). Results show the evolution of energy consumption related to this sector, identifying the driving forces that have influenced it.     The EU has recently presented a strategic long-term vision for a climate-neutral economy by 2050, considering that climate change is a serious concern for Europeans. A great socio-economic transformation is necessary, affecting all economic sectors. On the one hand, the EU considers that is necessary to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, on the other hand, sectors need to adapt to a warming climate. Focusing on the tourism sector, and using panel data referring to 12 Spanish Mediterranean provinces and the 1999-2014 time period, this study tests the tourist stays and temperature effects on the hospitality sector electricity consumption, by estimating extended Energy Environmental Kuznets curves (E-EKC) for the sector. The results show that the E-EKC hypothesis is not supported. Instead, electricity consumption progressively increases as tourism grows. In addition, the results indicate that temperature variables have notable influence over the electricity use, with a positive influence of global warming on electricity consumption. Finally, results also show positive relationships between overnight stays in hotels with higher star ratings and electricity use, while no significant price effects are observed. Electricity saving measures and renewable electricity generation promotion are recommended, especially in the highest energy consuming establishments.     This paper analyses the renewable energy policies established to promote renewable energy use for electricity generation in 17 transition economies, which are signatory parties to the Paris Agreement. The results show that the average share of renewable energy in electricity generation decreased, although electricity consumption and production increased over the 1995–2016 period. Hydropower generated the largest share of electricity, while the participation of non-conventional renewable energy remained quite low. However, it was solar PV and associated technologies that had grown fastest since 2015. All countries, except Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, have at least one renewable energy support policy. The feed-in tariff is the mechanism most used to promote renewable energy, followed by net metering. Tendering is also spreading rapidly in the region. The results show that transition economies are on the way to implementing appropriate measures for renewable energy deployment to diversify their energy mix.     The EU commitment to improve energy efficiency will help the EU economies to reduce energy consumption and achieve the desired decoupling between economic and energy consumption growth. For that aim, not only are the member states’ commitments important, the role that the European regions adopt when they develop their own energy policies is also paramount. Among them, the Andalusia region (south of Spain) has been chosen as a case study due to its economic and energy characteristics. This paper aims to inform about the role played by energy efficiency, explaining the energy consumption behaviour in Andalusia and in comparison with the Spanish average for the period 2000-2015, through the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition method.     Globally, interest in the environment and its conservation is growing and primordial. In particular, CO2 emissions generated by productive processes in a given territory in order to satisfy own and global consumption. Two types of responsibilities stand out, the producer’s and the consumer’s. Based on the Multi-regional Input-Output Methodology, this study determined Ecuador's responsibility in terms of CO2 emissions, defining the economic sectors that have the greatest representation in these emissions, as well as establishing an assessment at the level of the Trade Balance. There has been a strong growth of Ecuador’s Footprint of 145.26% from 2000 to 2015, with the transport and secondary sectors having the highest representation and the trade with the BRICS nations standing out. This results strengthens the need to foster a change in the population’s and the public administrations’ consumption patterns. So it is recommended that the authorities allocate part of the public budget to measures oriented to sustainable consumption. To respond to question i) a decomposition analysis of the change in CO2 emissions has been developed using the LMDI-I model. The decomposing factors or effects used include Carbon Intensity, Renewable Energy Sources penetration, Energy Intensity, Economic Structure, Economic Activity and Population. To answer question ii) a so-called Innovative Accounting Approach (IAA) has been implemented. Another innovative aspect of the methodology used has been to incorporate decoupling analysis between economic growth and environmental stress. This facilitates answering question iii). This is the first time that a comprehensive model is undertaken as described.     Mainly in the mass media, the operating of the wholesale electricity market in Spain is under of controversy because of the sensitivity of end consumers to the price of their electricity bill. Part of the controversy derives from possible collusive behavior from the main generation companies due they shared 55% of wholesale market. The goal of this paper is to design a tool to detect anomalies in determining electricity prices on that market. The tool claim to be used by supervisory agencies with responsibility on this market. The tool is based on a spatial LMDI-I decomposition analysis. This methodological approach has been less developed in the literature than the temporal LMDI-I analysis. Decomposition is applied to the differences between the daily cost and monthly average cost of electricity generation. To test the smooth functioning of the tool, data was taken for a period of time in which the supervisory agency sanctioned proceedings for generation companies but also for control periods of time when no sanctions were imposed. The decomposition analysis used the price, structure and scale effects as the decomposition effects. The proposed tool has allowed us to capture anomalous behaviours of the electricity costs in the electricity wholesale market for the same periods in which the supervisory agency in charge initiated sanctioning proceedings. These anomalies do not appear in the control periods for which the tool was tested.     Tourism is a major economic activity constituting one of the main sectors in economic terms. European countries traditionally play a significant role in the overall international tourism flow. However, while tourism has a noticeable positive impact on economic development, it also contributes to environmental degradation by increasing energy consumption and therefore emissions. This paper analyses the relationships between Hotel and Restaurant electricity consumption and tourism growth in 9 European countries during 2004-2012, for which there is a sufficient amount of data available. A decomposition analysis based on log-mean Divisia index method (LMDI I) is conducted to examine electricity consumption on this sector and their components. Five decomposition factors are considered: energy intensity (EI), physical capital intensity (KI), physical and human capital relationship (KL), human capital intensity (LI) and the tourism factor (T). Results show the evolution of energy consumption related to this sector, identifying the driving forces that have influenced it.     The EU has recently presented a strategic long-term vision for a climate-neutral economy by 2050, considering that climate change is a serious concern for Europeans. A great socio-economic transformation is necessary, affecting all economic sectors. On the one hand, the EU considers that is necessary to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, on the other hand, sectors need to adapt to a warming climate. Focusing on the tourism sector, and using panel data referring to 12 Spanish Mediterranean provinces and the 1999-2014 time period, this study tests the tourist stays and temperature effects on the hospitality sector electricity consumption, by estimating extended Energy Environmental Kuznets curves (E-EKC) for the sector. The results show that the E-EKC hypothesis is not supported. Instead, electricity consumption progressively increases as tourism grows. In addition, the results indicate that temperature variables have notable influence over the electricity use, with a positive influence of global warming on electricity consumption. Finally, results also show positive relationships between overnight stays in hotels with higher star ratings and electricity use, while no significant price effects are observed. Electricity saving measures and renewable electricity generation promotion are recommended, especially in the highest energy consuming establishments.     This paper analyses the renewable energy policies established to promote renewable energy use for electricity generation in 17 transition economies, which are signatory parties to the Paris Agreement. The results show that the average share of renewable energy in electricity generation decreased, although electricity consumption and production increased over the 1995–2016 period. Hydropower generated the largest share of electricity, while the participation of non-conventional renewable energy remained quite low. However, it was solar PV and associated technologies that had grown fastest since 2015. All countries, except Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, have at least one renewable energy support policy. The feed-in tariff is the mechanism most used to promote renewable energy, followed by net metering. Tendering is also spreading rapidly in the region. The results show that transition economies are on the way to implementing appropriate measures for renewable energy deployment to diversify their energy mix.     The EU commitment to improve energy efficiency will help the EU economies to reduce energy consumption and achieve the desired decoupling between economic and energy consumption growth. For that aim, not only are the member states’ commitments important, the role that the European regions adopt when they develop their own energy policies is also paramount. Among them, the Andalusia region (south of Spain) has been chosen as a case study due to its economic and energy characteristics. This paper aims to inform about the role played by energy efficiency, explaining the energy consumption behaviour in Andalusia and in comparison with the Spanish average for the period 2000-2015, through the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition method.     Globally, interest in the environment and its conservation is growing and primordial. In particular, CO2 emissions generated by productive processes in a given territory in order to satisfy own and global consumption. Two types of responsibilities stand out, the producer’s and the consumer’s. Based on the Multi-regional Input-Output Methodology, this study determined Ecuador's responsibility in terms of CO2 emissions, defining the economic sectors that have the greatest representation in these emissions, as well as establishing an assessment at the level of the Trade Balance. There has been a strong growth of Ecuador’s Footprint of 145.26% from 2000 to 2015, with the transport and secondary sectors having the highest representation and the trade with the BRICS nations standing out. This results strengthens the need to foster a change in the population’s and the public administrations’ consumption patterns. So it is recommended that the authorities allocate part of the public budget to measures oriented to sustainable consumption.     Focused on Ecuatorian’s Economy this article analyzes for the 2000-2014 period. i) What have the drivers of CO2 emission in Ecuador been? ii) What are the determining factors to be focused on with regards to energy policy efforts and the mitigation of GHG emissions? And iii) Is the economy of Ecuador moving towards decoupling between economic growth and environmental stress? To respond to question i) a decomposition analysis of the change in CO2 emissions has been developed using the LMDI-I model. The decomposing factors or effects used include Carbon Intensity, Renewable Energy Sources penetration, Energy Intensity, Economic Structure, Economic Activity and Population. To answer question ii) a so-called Innovative Accounting Approach (IAA) has been implemented. Another innovative aspect of the methodology used has been to incorporate decoupling analysis between economic growth and environmental stress. This facilitates answering question iii). This is the first time that a comprehensive model is undertaken as described.
