    Authors: Camacho Pérez, Ana I.; Bedoya, José;

    Ethyl alcohol has long been used as a general fixing and preserving agent for small aquatic invertebrates. It is recognized that there is no all-purpose fixative, but some fixatives are effective for large numbers of taxonomic groups. The objectives of this study were to determine whether or not it is better to fix samples from interstitial waters in the field, immediately after collection, and to determine which fixatives are best suited to aquatic invertebrates. The authors tested 70% ethyl alcohol, 5% formaldehyde, Angelier's fluid, and Koenike's fluid on oligochaetes, ostracods, copepods, syncarids, isopods, amphipods, mollusks, and water mites. Some 16 possible fixative-preservative combinations were tested. It is not possible to make generalizations about fixing samples from interstitial waters in the field. The taxonomic groups studied differed as to preferred fixatives and preservatives. This research was supported by funds provided by lhe DGICYT (PB87-0397). 12 páginas, 3 figuras y 4 tables Peer reviewed

    Authors: Nieves-Aldrey, J. L.;

    Esta monografía de la Serie Fauna Ibérica está dedicada a la familia Cynipidae, insectos himenópteros incluidos en la superfamilia Cynipoidea cuyos representantes mayoritariamente inducen la formación de agallas en las plantas, especialmente en fagáceas del género Quercus. En la obra se tratan extensamente las 140 especies de cinípidos de la Península Ibérica e islas Baleares. Incluye claves dicotómicas de identificación, basadas en los adultos, de las tribus, géneros y especies, detalladas descripciones morfológicas de adultos y agallas, así como amplia información sobre la diversidad, distribución geográfica y biología de todos los táxones estudiados. El libro contiene una detallada introducción al grupo, con una síntesis y moderna puesta al día del estado de conocimiento de la taxonomía, sistemática, filogenia e historia natural de la familia, culminada con una extensa y actualizada bibliografía. El libro está ricamente ilustrado con más de 970 figuras en 148 láminas, incluyendo dibujos a línea y hábitus de adultos y agallas, fotomicrografías de microscopio electrónico de barrido y fotografías en color de las agallas. La monografía se completa con cinco apéndices finales: una revisión nomenclatural, una clave de identificación de las especies basada en sus agallas, listas de plantas hospedadoras y de inquilinos y parasitoides en las distintas agallas y un glosario de términos. Investigación (Proyectos Ref. nº PB87-0397, PB89-0081 y PB92-0121) y edición (REN2000-1847-E/GW) subvencionadas por la Dirección General de Enseñanza Superior e Investigación Cientifica (DGESIC), de la Secretaria de Estado de Educación, Universidades, Investigación y Desarrollo del Ministerio de Educación y Cultura. Se ha realizado el estudio, desde mayo a octubre del año 1988, de las comunidades de insectos capturados mediante una trampa «Malaise» en una localidad del Sector Medio de la Sierra de Guadarrama (España). Se capturaron más de 49.000 ejemplares correspondientes a 15 órdenes. Los dípteros constituyeton el 71,5% de las capturas, seguidos de los himenóptetos con un 18%. Los 8.800 ejemplares de Hymenoptera fueron separados por familias, siendo el grupo más abundante el de los lchnetimonoidea, seguidos de Chalcidoidea. y Proaotropoidea. Se analizan los datos cuantitativos de abundancia relativa de todos los grupos, contrastándolos con los resultados obtenidos por otros autores. Se discute la fenología de los distintos grupos en el área de estudio y su relación con las circunstancias meteorológicas del año 1988. El trabajo ha sido cofinanciado por los Proyectos de Investigación: Fauna Ibérica I «DGICYT PB87-0397» y Museología del Patrimonio Natural SEVI ID CSIC 88AA8110 21 paginas, 15 figuras y 7 tables Peer reviewed

    [ES] Debido a la frecuencia con que se encuentran en la naturaleza moluscos albergando dos o más especies de Protostrongylidae, se han probado experimentalmente y de forma simultánea con larvas de Muellerius capillaris y Neostrongylus linearis, 6 especies de moluscos Helicidae. Para seguir el desarrollo larvario conjunto de ambos parásitos, se utilizaron sobre 40 moluscos adultos de cada especie, que se mataron seriadamente a partir del 6º día pi. De los resultados obtenidos referentes a las larvas I que penetraron en cada molusco, y las que de ellas prosiguieron a L-ll y L-lll, así como los períodos de tiempo que requirieron para ello, consideramos que el orden de idoneidad de las especies de moluscos probadas, para el desarrollo larvario conjunto de M. capillaris y N. linearis, fue: Cernuella (Xeromagna) cespitum arigonis, Cochlicella barbara, Helicella ordunensis, Cepaea nemoralis, Helicella (Helicella) itala y HeIix (Cryptomphalus) aspersa. Parece que M. capillaris y N. linearis evolucionan mejor en las infestaciones dobles que en las monoespecíficas. [EN] Due to the fact that molluscs harbouring two or more species of Protostrongylidae are frequently found in natural habitats, 6 species of Helicidae molluscs were experimentally infected on with Muellerius capillaris and Neostrongylus linearis larvae. Approximately 40 adult molluscs of each species were proved and killed in series from the 6th day post-infection, so that the joint larval development of both parasites could be followed. The results referring to the larvae I which penetrated each mollusc and those of them which reached to L-ll and L-lll, as well as the time required to do so, make us think that, from amongst the molluscs species investigated, the most suitable for the joint larval development of M. capillaris and N. linearis are in decreasing order: Cernuella (Xeromagna) cespitum arigonis, Cochlicella barbara, Helicella ordunensis, Cepaea nemoralis, Helicella (Helicella) itala and HeIix (Cryptomphalus) aspersa. It seems that M. capillaris and N. linearis evolve better in double infections than in the monospecific one.     [ES] El estudio de los moluscos de agua dulce llevado a cabo en la Comunidad de Madrid permite citar 33 especies, de ellas 25 son de gasterópodos y ocho son de bivalvos. De estas especies, 23 ya habían sido citadas previamente en esta área, aunque la mayoría con otros nombres, bien porque en la actualidad son sinónimos, o bien por determinaciones erróneas. Para las 33 especies, identificadas en un total de 463 muestras analizadas, junto con el estudio de los ejemplares conservados en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, se aportan datos taxonómicos y breves descripciones, así como información sobre los habitat en los que se han encontrado. Se indica también si habían sido citados previamente en el área y el nombre asignado por los diferentes autores. De acuerdo con los datos bibliográficos manejados, un total de nueve especies se citan por primera vez en la región: Pseudamnicola (Pseudamnicola) subproducta, Pseudamnicola (Corrosella) hinzi, Lymnaea stagnalis, Stagnicola palustris, Gyraulus (Gyraulus) chinensis, Gyraulus (Torquis) laevis, Ferrissia (Pettancylus) clessiniana, Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii y Pisidium subtruncatum. Entre las especies citadas por otros autores, cabe mencionar que “Islamia” coronadoi, Anisus (Disculifer) vortex y Segmentina nitida, no han podido ser localizadas. Stagnicola palustris se cita por primera vez, aunque sólo se han encontrado conchas. Dos especies, Potamopyrgus antipodarum y Gyraulus chinensis, son introducidas; la primera de ellas, considerada como invasora, presenta una amplia distribución. Del mismo modo citamos Lymnaea stagnalis y Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii, que sólo se han encontrado en un centro de jardinería, por si incidentalmente pudieran extenderse a hábitats naturales en la región. [EN] In this study of freshwater molluscs carried out in Comunidad de Madrid we cite the presence of 33 species, of which 25 are gastropods and eight bivalves. Twentythree of these species were previously reported in this area although most of them with different names either because they are synonyms or because they were determinated erronoeusly. The 33 species were identified from a total of 463 samples together with the specimens preserved at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. Taxonomical data and short descriptions, as well as information about the habitats in which they were found is given for the 33 species. We also indicate if they were previously reported in the area and names given by authors. According to the bibliographic data used, a total of nine species are cited for the first time in the region: Pseudamnicola (Pseudamnicola) subproducta, Pseudamnicola (Corrosella) hinzi; Lymnaea stagnalis; Stagnicola palustris; Gyraulus (Gyraulus) chinensis, Gyraulus (Torquis) laevis, Ferrissia (Pettancylus) clessiniana, Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii and Pisidium subtruncatum. Among the previous records, it is worth mentioning that it was not possible to locate “Islamia” coronadoi, Anisus (Disculifer) vortex and Segmentina nitida. Stagnicola palustris, is reported for the first time although only shells were found. Two species, Potamopyrgus antipodarum and Gyraulus chinensis, are alien species. The first of those two species is considered as invasive and presents a wide distribution. Although Lymnaea stagnalis and Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii were only observed in a garden center, we cite them here because there is the possibility that they might accidentally spread out into natural habitats of the region. Los muestreos han sido realizados en el marco de los proyectos “Fauna Ibérica” (Refs.     Authors: Camacho Pérez, Ana I.; Bedoya, José;

    Esta monografía de la Serie Fauna Ibérica está dedicada a la familia Cynipidae, insectos himenópteros incluidos en la superfamilia Cynipoidea cuyos representantes mayoritariamente inducen la formación de agallas en las plantas, especialmente en fagáceas del género Quercus. En la obra se tratan extensamente las 140 especies de cinípidos de la Península Ibérica e islas Baleares. Incluye claves dicotómicas de identificación, basadas en los adultos, de las tribus, géneros y especies, detalladas descripciones morfológicas de adultos y agallas, así como amplia información sobre la diversidad, distribución geográfica y biología de todos los táxones estudiados. El libro contiene una detallada introducción al grupo, con una síntesis y moderna puesta al día del estado de conocimiento de la taxonomía, sistemática, filogenia e historia natural de la familia, culminada con una extensa y actualizada bibliografía. El libro está ricamente ilustrado con más de 970 figuras en 148 láminas, incluyendo dibujos a línea y hábitus de adultos y agallas, fotomicrografías de microscopio electrónico de barrido y fotografías en color de las agallas. La monografía se completa con cinco apéndices finales: una revisión nomenclatural, una clave de identificación de las especies basada en sus agallas, listas de plantas hospedadoras y de inquilinos y parasitoides en las distintas agallas y un glosario de términos. Investigación (Proyectos Ref. nº PB87-0397, PB89-0081 y PB92-0121) y edición (REN2000-1847-E/GW) subvencionadas por la Dirección General de Enseñanza Superior e Investigación Cientifica (DGESIC), de la Secretaria de Estado de Educación, Universidades, Investigación y Desarrollo del Ministerio de Educación y Cultura. Se ha realizado el estudio, desde mayo a octubre del año 1988, de las comunidades de insectos capturados mediante una trampa «Malaise» en una localidad del Sector Medio de la Sierra de Guadarrama (España). Se capturaron más de 49.000 ejemplares correspondientes a 15 órdenes. Los dípteros constituyeton el 71,5% de las capturas, seguidos de los himenóptetos con un 18%. Los 8.800 ejemplares de Hymenoptera fueron separados por familias, siendo el grupo más abundante el de los lchnetimonoidea, seguidos de Chalcidoidea. y Proaotropoidea. Se analizan los datos cuantitativos de abundancia relativa de todos los grupos, contrastándolos con los resultados obtenidos por otros autores. Se discute la fenología de los distintos grupos en el área de estudio y su relación con las circunstancias meteorológicas del año 1988. El trabajo ha sido cofinanciado por los Proyectos de Investigación: Fauna Ibérica I «DGICYT PB87-0397» y Museología del Patrimonio Natural SEVI ID CSIC 88AA8110 21 paginas, 15 figuras y 7 tables Peer reviewed

    [ES] Debido a la frecuencia con que se encuentran en la naturaleza moluscos albergando dos o más especies de Protostrongylidae, se han probado experimentalmente y de forma simultánea con larvas de Muellerius capillaris y Neostrongylus linearis, 6 especies de moluscos Helicidae. Para seguir el desarrollo larvario conjunto de ambos parásitos, se utilizaron sobre 40 moluscos adultos de cada especie, que se mataron seriadamente a partir del 6º día pi. De los resultados obtenidos referentes a las larvas I que penetraron en cada molusco, y las que de ellas prosiguieron a L-ll y L-lll, así como los períodos de tiempo que requirieron para ello, consideramos que el orden de idoneidad de las especies de moluscos probadas, para el desarrollo larvario conjunto de M. capillaris y N. linearis, fue: Cernuella (Xeromagna) cespitum arigonis, Cochlicella barbara, Helicella ordunensis, Cepaea nemoralis, Helicella (Helicella) itala y HeIix (Cryptomphalus) aspersa. Parece que M. capillaris y N. linearis evolucionan mejor en las infestaciones dobles que en las monoespecíficas. [EN] Due to the fact that molluscs harbouring two or more species of Protostrongylidae are frequently found in natural habitats, 6 species of Helicidae molluscs were experimentally infected on with Muellerius capillaris and Neostrongylus linearis larvae. Approximately 40 adult molluscs of each species were proved and killed in series from the 6th day post-infection, so that the joint larval development of both parasites could be followed. The results referring to the larvae I which penetrated each mollusc and those of them which reached to L-ll and L-lll, as well as the time required to do so, make us think that, from amongst the molluscs species investigated, the most suitable for the joint larval development of M. capillaris and N. linearis are in decreasing order: Cernuella (Xeromagna) cespitum arigonis, Cochlicella barbara, Helicella ordunensis, Cepaea nemoralis, Helicella (Helicella) itala and HeIix (Cryptomphalus) aspersa. It seems that M. capillaris and N. linearis evolve better in double infections than in the monospecific one.     Authors: Soler, Juan José; Moreno, D.; Araujo, Rafael; Ramos, M. Ángeles;

    [ES] El estudio de los moluscos de agua dulce llevado a cabo en la Comunidad de Madrid permite citar 33 especies, de ellas 25 son de gasterópodos y ocho son de bivalvos. De estas especies, 23 ya habían sido citadas previamente en esta área, aunque la mayoría con otros nombres, bien porque en la actualidad son sinónimos, o bien por determinaciones erróneas. Para las 33 especies, identificadas en un total de 463 muestras analizadas, junto con el estudio de los ejemplares conservados en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, se aportan datos taxonómicos y breves descripciones, así como información sobre los habitat en los que se han encontrado. Se indica también si habían sido citados previamente en el área y el nombre asignado por los diferentes autores. De acuerdo con los datos bibliográficos manejados, un total de nueve especies se citan por primera vez en la región: Pseudamnicola (Pseudamnicola) subproducta, Pseudamnicola (Corrosella) hinzi, Lymnaea stagnalis, Stagnicola palustris, Gyraulus (Gyraulus) chinensis, Gyraulus (Torquis) laevis, Ferrissia (Pettancylus) clessiniana, Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii y Pisidium subtruncatum. Entre las especies citadas por otros autores, cabe mencionar que “Islamia” coronadoi, Anisus (Disculifer) vortex y Segmentina nitida, no han podido ser localizadas. Stagnicola palustris se cita por primera vez, aunque sólo se han encontrado conchas. Dos especies, Potamopyrgus antipodarum y Gyraulus chinensis, son introducidas; la primera de ellas, considerada como invasora, presenta una amplia distribución. Del mismo modo citamos Lymnaea stagnalis y Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii, que sólo se han encontrado en un centro de jardinería, por si incidentalmente pudieran extenderse a hábitats naturales en la región. [EN] In this study of freshwater molluscs carried out in Comunidad de Madrid we cite the presence of 33 species, of which 25 are gastropods and eight bivalves. Twentythree of these species were previously reported in this area although most of them with different names either because they are synonyms or because they were determinated erronoeusly. The 33 species were identified from a total of 463 samples together with the specimens preserved at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. Taxonomical data and short descriptions, as well as information about the habitats in which they were found is given for the 33 species. We also indicate if they were previously reported in the area and names given by authors. According to the bibliographic data used, a total of nine species are cited for the first time in the region: Pseudamnicola (Pseudamnicola) subproducta, Pseudamnicola (Corrosella) hinzi; Lymnaea stagnalis; Stagnicola palustris; Gyraulus (Gyraulus) chinensis, Gyraulus (Torquis) laevis, Ferrissia (Pettancylus) clessiniana, Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii and Pisidium subtruncatum. Among the previous records, it is worth mentioning that it was not possible to locate “Islamia” coronadoi, Anisus (Disculifer) vortex and Segmentina nitida. Stagnicola palustris, is reported for the first time although only shells were found. Two species, Potamopyrgus antipodarum and Gyraulus chinensis, are alien species. The first of those two species is considered as invasive and presents a wide distribution. Although Lymnaea stagnalis and Oxyloma (Oxyloma) sarsii were only observed in a garden center, we cite them here because there is the possibility that they might accidentally spread out into natural habitats of the region. Los muestreos han sido realizados en el marco de los proyectos “Fauna Ibérica” (Refs. DGICYT, PB87-0397, PB89- 0081, PB92-0121, PB95-0235 y CGL2004-04680-C10-01) y “Evaluación del conocimiento y del estado de conservación de la diversidad animal de Madrid” financiado por la Comunidad de Madrid (Ref.
