Based on the convex least-squares estimator, we propose two different procedures for testing convexity of a probability mass function supported on N with an unknown finite support. The procedures are shown to be asymptotically calibrated.

33 pages; We study the thermodynamic limit of the particle-hole form factors of the XXZ Heisenberg chain in the massless regime. We show that, in this limit, such form factors decrease as an explicitly computed power-law in the system-size. Moreover, the corresponding a...

A search is performed for dark matter particles produced in association with a top quark pair in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. No significant ex...

Based on rescaling by some suitable sequence instead of the number of time units, the usual notion of divergence rates is here extended to define and determine meaningful generalized divergence rates. The suitable rescaling is naturally induced by the asymptotic behavior...

We address the response, both in amplitude and intensity, of a Fabry–Perot from a variety of viewpoints. These complementary pictures conspire to achieve a comprehensive and consistent theory of the operation of this system.

We present a simple model explaining corruption on geography and climate conditions. We test the model's validity in a cross-section of 115 countries. Controlling for all other corruption's determinants we find evidence supporting the model's predictions. Corruption inc...

This paper analyzes the occupational structures of 25 European Union countries during the period 2000-2004. Shift-share analyses have been used to decompose cross-country differences in occupational structure into within industry and between industry effects. The static...

The paper discusses the tale that we can find in "The Architecture" by Vitruvius, on a method used by Archimedes to determine the percentage of gold and silver in a crown. The method is based on the immersion of bodies, allowing the evaluation of their volume in the cas...

Previous studies suggest that Scandinavian countries are the ones with the highest rates of youth poverty in Europe. This somewhat unexpected finding prompts the question whether the incidence of poverty is an appropriate measure of youth disadvantage. Instead of consid...
