The increased prevalence of obesity has resulted in orthopedic surgeons being likely to face many patients with a high body mass index (BMI) who warrant total hip arthroplasties (THAs) over the coming years. Studies' findings considered the postoperative clinical, and functional outcomes in these patients are controversial, and selecting the most appropriate surgical approach remains debatable.To compare pain-levels, functionality, and quality-of-life in obese and nonobese osteoarthritic patients who have undergone primary total hip arthroplasty through either direct-anterior-approach (DAA) or Hardinge-approach.One hundred and twenty participants (50 years) were divided into four groups according to the surgical approach (DAA or Hardinge) and patients' BMI (nonobese30 kg/mDAADAA-groups reported less pain, more functionality and better quality-of-life, compared to the Hardinge-groups. The DAA benefited obese and nonobese patients, similarly yet faster, suggesting that it should be the more preferred choice for obese patients, instead of Hardinge. However, more comparative studies with more extended follow-up periods are needed to confirm our results and better evaluate all patients' long-term outcomes.

[Results]: A deep phylogeographic division reflects the dichotomy between early domestication centers. In the core Eastern and Western domestication regions, Chinese pigs show differentiation between breeds due to geographic isolation, whereas this is less pronounced in European pigs. The inferred European origin of pigs in the Americas, Africa, and Australia reflects European expansion during the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries. Human-mediated introgression, which is due, in particular, to importing Chinese pigs into the UK during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, played an important role in the formation of modern pig breeds. Inbreeding levels vary markedly between populations, from almost no runs of homozygosity (ROH) in a number of Asian wild boar populations, to up to 20% of the genome covered by ROH in a number of Southern European breeds. Commercial populations show moderate ROH statistics. For domesticated pigs and wild boars in Asia and Europe, we identified highly differentiated loci that include candidate genes related to muscle and body development, central nervous system, reproduction, and energy balance, which are putatively under artificial selection. [Conclusions]: Key events related to domestication, dispersal, and mixing of pigs from different regions are reflected in the 60K SNP data, including the globalization that has recently become full circle since Chinese pig breeders in the past decades started selecting Western breeds to improve local Chinese pigs. Furthermore, signatures of ongoing and past selection, acting at different times and on different genetic backgrounds, enhance our insight in the mechanism of domestication and selection. The global diversity statistics presented here highlight concerns for maintaining agrodiversity, but also provide a necessary framework for directing genetic conservation. [Background]: Pigs were domesticated independently in Eastern and Western Eurasia early during the agricultural revolution, and have since been transported and traded across the globe. Here, we present a worldwide survey on 60K genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data for 2093 pigs, including 1839 domestic pigs representing 122 local and commercial breeds, 215 wild boars, and 39 out-group suids, from Asia, Europe, America, Oceania and Africa. The aim of this study was to infer global patterns in pig domestication and diversity related to demography, migration, and selection. The impact of climate change and the capacity to mitigate its negative impacts are unevenly distributed across and within societies; it is the poorer, marginalised and vulnerable groups who are the most acutely affected. This dataset captures some of the experiences of those groups. It includes 358 narratives collected via individual narrative interviews in 13 European countries during June-December 2022 across eight thematic research lines – each research line addressing an EU Green Deal policy area. The data was gatered in the EU funded ACCTING, which mobilises research experimentation and innovation to promote an inclusive and socially just European Green Deal focusing on the inequalities produced by its policies and supporting behavioural change at individual and collective levels. The project explores the impact of Green Deal policy initiatives on individual and collective behaviours, provides evidence, and empowers policymakers and stakeholders to anticipate policy responses and potential negative influences, and mitigate such impacts in decision-making. ACCTING collects new data on Green Deal policy interventions and co-designs and implements pilot actions to reduce or prevent policy-related inequalities and advance behavioural change for an inclusive and equal European Green Deal. 

Mediterranean Sea Monthly Climatology using the SeaDataNet V2 aggregated dataset and the DIVA software tool 4.6.11. The Climatology covers the geographical region W6.25-E36.5, N30-N40 and is computed on 31 standards depths from 0-4000m. The observations are from the period 1950-2015.

Both in prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes synonymous codons are unevenly used. Such differential usage of optimal or nonoptimal codons has been suggested to play a role in the control of translation initiation and elongation, as well as at the level of transcription and mRNA stability. In the case of membrane proteins codon usage has been proposed to assist in the establishment of a pause necessary for the correct targeting of the nascent chains to the translocon. In this work, using as model UreA, the Aspergillus nidulans urea transporter, we show that the synonymous mutation of a pair of nonoptimal codons coding for amino acids situated at the limit between the N-terminus and the first transmembrane segment are necessary for its proper biogenesis at 37ºC. This effect is less relevant at 25ºC. These codons presumably regulate translation rate in order to allow for the correct interaction of UreA-translating ribosomes with factors required for the targeting and/or folding of the protein, in a very early stage of the biosynthesis process. Whether this mechanism would affect other proteins, remains to be determined. Mineral compositions determined using electron-probe microanalysis (EPMA) for oxidized metasedimentary rocks from the islands of Andros, Crete, Naxos, and Tinos, Aegean region, Greece. The analyses were done using the JEOL JXA-8530F field-emission gun EPMA in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Yale University. Mineral composition results are tabulated as follows. In the context of the EU-funded project DIONE (No. 870378), targeted drone flight campaigns were conducted in determined Areas of Interest (AOIs) in the Lithuanian territory as a complementary source of information to the spaceborne Earth Observation (EO) open-accessed data. Such an activity attempted to overcome the limited capabilities of EO coarse resolution data to identify small-scale features alongside the agricultural fields, such as the non-productive Ecological Focus Areas (EFAs) and overall to enhance the quality and accuracy (1m or less) of the estimated Land Cover/Land Use elements. The dataset is in fact a collection of drone orthomosaic images delivered in GeoTIFF data format, which were acquired from the drone flight missions over the first subregion of the first AOI located near the capital of Lithuania, (Vilnius). For each area, four flight campaigns were scheduled and conducted on the following dates: 1st flight: 24-27/5/2021 2nd flight: 26-29/7/2021 3rd flight: 13-16/9/2021 4th flight: 25-28/8/2022
