    -; Driving in poor meteorological conditions is particularly dangerous in terms of road safety. In order to investigate the visibility thresholds of targets in these conditions, experiments were conducted in a fog chamber. A new method using a Calibrated camera, in comparison to traditional photometers, was investigated in order to measure the complete visual field using a luminance matrix. The luminance map can subsequently be analysed in order to determine significant parameters for the visibility of the analysed objects. In addition to metrological aspects, the experiment data were analysed and compared to a theoretical approach using a Vision Model developed by Adrian.

    N° contrat, conv. 1999-RD.10429; Rapport de recherche; L'objectif du travail présenté dans ce document est de définir un modèle d'émission pour les polluants à l'échappement (CO, CO2, HC, NOx et particules) et de consommation de carburant des petits véhicules utilitaires. Un recueil des données a été effectué au sein de différents laboratoires européens et les émissions gazeuses de 150 véhicules testés selon différentes conditions de conduites et de charge ont été recueillies. Le classement des véhicules a été effectué selon le carburant, la norme européenne d'émissions (pre-Euro-1 à Euro-2) et la classification européenne (N1-I, N1-II et N1-III). 24 groupes ont ainsi été distingués. Pour chaque groupe et chacun des polluants réglementaires, un facteur d'émission présenté sous la forme d'une fonction continue du second degré a été établi en fonction de la vitesse moyenne et de la charge et a été statistiquement validé par le test de Pearson

    Mémoire de stage; The use of adhesively bonded composite reinforcement for steel structures induce a closer study of the adhesive as it is considered the weakest point in the assembly. A reliable numerical damage model has been developed for the adhesively bonded joints and then verified for different types of configurations. A bi- linear traction separation description of a cohesive zone model was used in ABAQUS to simulate the damage evaluation in the adhesive. It was then compared to experimental results for the global structure behavior (local strains, applied load, applied displacement).; L'utilisation des renforcements par composites collés pour des structures métalliques implique une étude plus approfondie des adhésifs puisqu'il s'agit dans ce cas de l'élément le plus faible dans l'assemblage. Un modèle d'endommagement numérique a été développé pour le joint collé étudié et appliqué pour diffèrent type de configurations. Le modèle bi linéaire de traction- séparation (modèle de zone cohésives) est réalisé sur ABAQUS pour visualiser l'évaluation de l'endommagement de l'adhésive et pouvoir réaliser une comparaison avec les investigations expérimentales (déformation locale, effort appliqué, déplacement appliqué).

    C06-32 - PROJET RECIFE Convention N° 02 31 0045; Rapport de recherche; Scheduling is the process of allocating resources to activities over time. In a scheduling problem, resources are scarce and constrained in various ways (e.g. in the order of activities and the capacity of resources), and one is looking for a schedule of the activities that both satisfies the constraints and is optimal according to some criteria. This paper deals with an extension of a constraint-based scheduling model of real time management of train traffic through junctions and large stations. This extension allows the improvement of the model of conflicts between trains running in opposite directions with the use of state resources. To tackle large instances, a temporal decomposition has been used. We tested the model and algorithms by applying to problem instances of a real terminal station. Computational results show that with the temporal decomposition method we are able to obtain good solution in short computation time

    Le principal objectif de cette présente communication est de déterminer les conséquences de phénomènes complexes tel le couplage de la thermo- et photo-oxydation. Pour cette étude, nous nous sommes penchés sur le cas d'une gaine de polyéthylène chargée de noir de carbone et stabilisée avec un mélange classique d'antioxydants synergiques (Irganox 1010 + Irgafos 168), et ce après un vieillissement naturel d'un quart de siècle dans deux conditions d'ensoleillement distinctes: en présence et en l'absence de soleil (endroit sombre). The main objective of the present communication was to determine the consequences of such a complex thermo-photo-oxidation process in a polyethylene-carbon black sheath, stabilised with a classical synergetic antioxidant mixture (Irganox 1010 + Irgafos 168), after natural ageing during a quarter of century in two distinct sunshine conditions: in a presence and absence of sun (dark location).

    European Research Area - Network on the Industrial Handling of Raw Materials for European Industries; roadmap of the "ERA-MIN" eranet; Non-energy and non-agricultural raw materials underpin the global economy and our quality of life. They are vital for the EU's economy and for the development of environmentally friendly technologies essential to European industries. However, the EU is highly dependent on imports, and securing supplies has therefore become crucial. A sustainable supply of mineral products and metals for European industry requires a more efficient and rational consumption, enhanced substitution and improved recycling. Recycling from scrap to raw materials has been rapidly gaining in quantity and efficiency over the last years. However, continuous re-use cannot provide alone the necessary quantities of mineral raw materials, due to i) recycling losses, ii) the worldwide growing demand in raw materials, and iii) the need of "new" elements for the industry. To fully meet future needs, metals and mineral products from primary sources will still be needed in the future. Most of them will continue to be imported from sources outside Europe; but others can, and should, be produced domestically. Advanced research and innovation are required to improve the capacity of existing technologies to discover new deposits, to improve the efficiency of the entire geomaterials life cycle from mineral extraction to the use as secondary resource of products at the end of their industrial life, and to reduce the environmental footprint of raw materials extraction and use. Research and innovation must be made to acquire knowledge as well, and to improve our basic understanding of all engineering and natural processes involved in the raw materials life cycle, as well as the coupling of these processes. Finally, research has to go beyond the present-day economic and technological constraints, and it should be closely associated with training and education in order to maintain existing skills and to share the most recent developments with the industrial sector. A long-term vision of research is necessary in order to have the capacity of evaluating the environmental and societal impacts of present and developing industrial activities and to imagine tomorrow's breakthrough concepts and technologies that will create new industrial opportunities. These objectives require the input of contrasted scientific and technical skills and competences (earth science, material science and technology, chemistry, physics, engineer, biology, engineering, environmental science, economy, social and human sciences, etc). An important challenge is to gather all these domains of expertise towards the same objective. The ERA-MIN Research Agenda aims at listing the most important topics of research and innovation that will contribute to i) secure the sustainable supply and management of non-energy and non-agricultural raw materials, and ii) offer opportunities of investment and employment opportunities in the EU.

    -; Basins located in the suburbs, known as peri-urban basins, face a quick land-use change, increasing pollution and flood risks. Being neither urban nor rural basins, they have been left apart by hydrologists. Improving hydrological models taking into account both natural and anthropogenic surfaces and pathways is the objective of the French project AVuPUR. One of the two peri-urban basins chosen for this project is the Chézine basin, located in northwestern France, in the suburbs of Nantes. The Chézine basin is subject to an oceanic climate and has a quite flat topography. Whereas the upstream part of the catchment remains essentially rural, the urbanization is dense in the downstream part and under development in the medium part. The mean urbanization over the basin is about 18%. A first part of the project consists of collecting geographical and hydrological data, followed by a first hydrological data analysis. Then different spatial segmentation methods are tested based on a geomorphological analysis and ultimately hydrological models well adapted for these particular basins will be developed.
