    Within the DARIAH research infrastructure the need to collect, disseminate and monitor the contributions offered to the infrastructure has always been present. Work package 5 of the DARIAH Humanities at Scale (HaS) project has explored and described the activities and structure required to sustain these needs, resulting in the DARIAH contributions concept and procedure including a supporting online tool.The contributions to the DARIAH infrastructure consist either of services, being repeatable actions, or activities, which have a more unique/ one-time character. They are collected for several reasons. First of all, dissemination to the Arts & Humanities (A&H) community; contributions offered to the infrastructure need to be visible to the users within the community, so they can be found and used. Secondly the compatibility of the contributions to the infrastructure; how compatible are the contributions to the infrastructure, how easily can they be (re)used and/or combined with other services and last but not least monitoring of the variety and maturity of contributions as it is essential for the strategic planning and future development of the infrastructure.The HaS project has developed an online tool that supports the collection of the contribution so they can be disseminated to the community. The contributions will be visible in the online tool, which in time will feed into the ‘marketplace’ that DARIAH is developing. Next to the contributions, the DARIAH marketplace will give access to a wide range of information relevant to the A&H community.Furthermore, the tool enables contributors to self-assess their contribution according to criteria provided by DARIAH in order to see how compatible their contribution is to the infrastructure. These self-assessments are then peer-reviewed, on the basis of trust, by reviewers appointed by the infrastructure, which – when approved - are given a score that results in one of three tiers of compatibility to the infrastructure.Finally, the tool can produce real time reports to monitor the diversity and capability of offered contributions, which subsequently can be utilised in outlining next steps for the infrastructure and its evolution.

    We have explored gaps in teaching of research skills for computational literary studies to inform the CLS INFRA project’s own approach to training schools and chart the territory to gain broader insight into current CLS teaching practices. To understand supply we have manually annotated a sample of European university courses in Digital Humanities and summer school workshops. To index demand we set up an online survey to ask the community to evaluate a set of predetermined ‘skills’ based on its perceived future prospects in the field and teaching (1-5 scale response, 118 participants).The survey also offered a chance to observe the demographic structure of the CLS community. The prevalence of early career respondents indicates a new generational wave within computational literary studies. Participant gender was balanced, although introduction of variables such as career stage, self-reported proficiency, and discipline demonstrated skewness. Researchers who work in the field of CLS also report more experience in computational methods, which suggests that these go hand in hand in current practice. Despite the gap in skills education being more general in nature, we identified areas of heightened interest. These are the skills that make up the backbone of computational research: from designing the study to text collection, to multivariate analysis and statistical modeling. Survey responses reiterated that the current gap in schooling is quantitative rather than qualitative. Moreover, there was a consensus among participants that the institutionalized training of a new generation of researchers is instrumental to disciplinary advancement of CLS.

    This white paper primarily served as an internal working document for the DARIAH ERIC. We inspected current service policies and practices across ERIC’s with an emphasis on social sciences and humanities. We summarised earlier analysis of the DARIAH service portfolio. The ultimate purpose of the paper was to create a common ground of understanding what DARIAH services are and how to develop governance and management around them. Still, when writing this paper, we realised that others might encounter similar questions in their quest, and so could learn from our exploration.

    The power of storytelling as a sense-making and knowledge-creation strategy is deeply embedded in human cultures, reaching back as far as our written records, and looking as far forward as our technological imaginations. How we gather, share and use our stories says much about who we are, how we entertain and educate, how we build identities and understand the world beyond our vision, how we relate to our past and to our future. For this first hybrid meeting of the DARIAH community, we will highlight the power of storytelling in the arts and humanities. By looking at our research practices and our research infrastructures through the lens of storytelling, we hope to build conceptual bridges between the arts, technology, humanities, and beyond. DARIAH is a European Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities. Its mission is to empower scholarly communities with digital methods to create, connect and share knowledge about culture and society. The DARIAH Annual Event offers the DARIAH community and beyond the possibility to present results and new ideas; to meet and network.

    Iako u Zborniku dominiraju radovi koji se bave naučnicama u prošlosti, kao i njihovim radom, saznanjima, nedovoljnom afirmisanosšću njihovog rada, poteškoćama sa kojima su se suočavale, zbornik zaokružuju radovi koji se bave savremenom situacijom, tj. položajem žena u akademskoj zajednici danas i svim teškoćama koje i same akterke katkada teško detektuju i prepoznaju. Patrijarhalni mehanizmi prožimaju društvo u kome živimo na različitim nivoima, a sami principi koji vladaju u akademskom svetu – u kojima sve više važe pravila liberalnog kapitalizma i ideje o „upotrebljivosti“ nauke i merljivosti rezultata – cementiraju i prikrivaju davno odomaćen diskriminatorski odnos prema ženama i prema naučničkom glasu i diskursu koji odudara od dominantne paradigme. Stoga su neophodni neprekidni napori da se ženski glas u nauci čuje, a položaj naučnica stalno unapređuje i popravlja.     Publishing research data as open data is not yet common practice for researchers in the arts and humanities, and lags behind other scientific fields, such as the natural sciences. Moreover, even when humanities researchers publish their data in repositories and archives, these data are often hard to find and use by other researchers in the field. This report gives an overview of the various aspects that are connected to open access publishing of research data in the humanities. After the introduction, where we give definitions of key concepts, we describe the research data life cycle. We present an overview of the different stakeholders involved and we look into advantages and obstacles for researchers to share research data. Furthermore, a description of the European data repositories is given, followed by certification standards of trusted digital data repositories. The possibility of data citation is important for sharing open data and is also described in this report. We also discuss the standards and use of metadata in the humanities. Finally, we discuss best practice example of open access research data system in the humanities: the French open research data ecosystem. With this report we provide information and guidance on open access publishing of humanities research data for researchers. It will also serve as input for the design and implementation of an open humanities data platform in DARIAH.

    In June 2011, at the Arqueologica 2.0 conference in Seville during a V-MUST.NET project meeting, we began along with other colleagues to ponder about possibilities of a joint event, for which several conferences would be organized collective focusing on ICT and how it is applied to Cultural Heritage. The conference would meet at a different location each time and should take place at least every two or three years. DigitalHeritage 2013 Expo has been organised in an area of 700 sq mt in the last floor of the Villa Mediterraneé, this thanks to the support of its director, Michel Vauzelle. The two main organisers, CNR Map and CNR ITABC, have worked together under the direction of Art Clay as exhibition chair, with Livio De Luca as local organiser, and Sofia Pescarin. This catalogue presents an overview of the curatorial concept developed for the Expo includes detailed descriptions of many of the applications that are included in the exhibition

    This open access book is about public open spaces, about people, and about the relationship between them and the role of technology in this relationship. It is about different approaches, methods, empirical studies, and concerns about a phenomenon that is increasingly being in the centre of sciences and strategies – the penetration of digital technologies in the urban space. As the main outcome of the CyberParks Project, this book aims at fostering the understanding about the current and future interactions of the nexus people, public spaces and technology. It addresses a wide range of challenges and multidisciplinary perspectives on emerging phenomena related to the penetration of technology in people’s lifestyles - affecting therefore the whole society, and with this, the production and use of public spaces. Cyberparks coined the term cyberpark to describe the mediated public space, that emerging type of urban spaces where nature and cybertechnologies blend together to generate hybrid experiences and enhance quality of life.

    Within the DARIAH research infrastructure the need to collect, disseminate and monitor the contributions offered to the infrastructure has always been present. Work package 5 of the DARIAH Humanities at Scale (HaS) project has explored and described the activities and structure required to sustain these needs, resulting in the DARIAH contributions concept and procedure including a supporting online tool.The contributions to the DARIAH infrastructure consist either of services, being repeatable actions, or activities, which have a more unique/ one-time character. They are collected for several reasons. First of all, dissemination to the Arts & Humanities (A&H) community; contributions offered to the infrastructure need to be visible to the users within the community, so they can be found and used. Secondly the compatibility of the contributions to the infrastructure; how compatible are the contributions to the infrastructure, how easily can they be (re)used and/or combined with other services and last but not least monitoring of the variety and maturity of contributions as it is essential for the strategic planning and future development of the infrastructure.The HaS project has developed an online tool that supports the collection of the contribution so they can be disseminated to the community. The contributions will be visible in the online tool, which in time will feed into the ‘marketplace’ that DARIAH is developing. Next to the contributions, the DARIAH marketplace will give access to a wide range of information relevant to the A&H community.Furthermore, the tool enables contributors to self-assess their contribution according to criteria provided by DARIAH in order to see how compatible their contribution is to the infrastructure. These self-assessments are then peer-reviewed, on the basis of trust, by reviewers appointed by the infrastructure, which – when approved - are given a score that results in one of three tiers of compatibility to the infrastructure.Finally, the tool can produce real time reports to monitor the diversity and capability of offered contributions, which subsequently can be utilised in outlining next steps for the infrastructure and its evolution.

    We have explored gaps in teaching of research skills for computational literary studies to inform the CLS INFRA project’s own approach to training schools and chart the territory to gain broader insight into current CLS teaching practices. To understand supply we have manually annotated a sample of European university courses in Digital Humanities and summer school workshops. To index demand we set up an online survey to ask the community to evaluate a set of predetermined ‘skills’ based on its perceived future prospects in the field and teaching (1-5 scale response, 118 participants).The survey also offered a chance to observe the demographic structure of the CLS community. The prevalence of early career respondents indicates a new generational wave within computational literary studies. Participant gender was balanced, although introduction of variables such as career stage, self-reported proficiency, and discipline demonstrated skewness. Researchers who work in the field of CLS also report more experience in computational methods, which suggests that these go hand in hand in current practice. Despite the gap in skills education being more general in nature, we identified areas of heightened interest. These are the skills that make up the backbone of computational research: from designing the study to text collection, to multivariate analysis and statistical modeling. Survey responses reiterated that the current gap in schooling is quantitative rather than qualitative. Moreover, there was a consensus among participants that the institutionalized training of a new generation of researchers is instrumental to disciplinary advancement of CLS.

    This white paper primarily served as an internal working document for the DARIAH ERIC. We inspected current service policies and practices across ERIC’s with an emphasis on social sciences and humanities. We summarised earlier analysis of the DARIAH service portfolio. The ultimate purpose of the paper was to create a common ground of understanding what DARIAH services are and how to develop governance and management around them. Still, when writing this paper, we realised that others might encounter similar questions in their quest, and so could learn from our exploration.

    The power of storytelling as a sense-making and knowledge-creation strategy is deeply embedded in human cultures, reaching back as far as our written records, and looking as far forward as our technological imaginations. How we gather, share and use our stories says much about who we are, how we entertain and educate, how we build identities and understand the world beyond our vision, how we relate to our past and to our future. For this first hybrid meeting of the DARIAH community, we will highlight the power of storytelling in the arts and humanities. By looking at our research practices and our research infrastructures through the lens of storytelling, we hope to build conceptual bridges between the arts, technology, humanities, and beyond. DARIAH is a European Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities. Its mission is to empower scholarly communities with digital methods to create, connect and share knowledge about culture and society. The DARIAH Annual Event offers the DARIAH community and beyond the possibility to present results and new ideas; to meet and network.

Patrijarhalni mehanizmi prožimaju društvo u kome živimo na različitim nivoima, a sami principi koji vladaju u akademskom svetu – u kojima sve više važe pravila liberalnog kapitalizma i ideje o „upotrebljivosti“ nauke i merljivosti rezultata – cementiraju i prikrivaju davno odomaćen diskriminatorski odnos prema ženama i prema naučničkom glasu i diskursu koji odudara od dominantne paradigme.     Publishing research data as open data is not yet common practice for researchers in the arts and humanities, and lags behind other scientific fields, such as the natural sciences. Moreover, even when humanities researchers publish their data in repositories and archives, these data are often hard to find and use by other researchers in the field. This report gives an overview of the various aspects that are connected to open access publishing of research data in the humanities. After the introduction, where we give definitions of key concepts, we describe the research data life cycle. We present an overview of the different stakeholders involved and we look into advantages and obstacles for researchers to share research data. Furthermore, a description of the European data repositories is given, followed by certification standards of trusted digital data repositories. The possibility of data citation is important for sharing open data and is also described in this report. We also discuss the standards and use of metadata in the humanities. Finally, we discuss best practice example of open access research data system in the humanities: the French open research data ecosystem. With this report we provide information and guidance on open access publishing of humanities research data for researchers. It will also serve as input for the design and implementation of an open humanities data platform in DARIAH.

    In June 2011, at the Arqueologica 2.0 conference in Seville during a V-MUST.NET project meeting, we began along with other colleagues to ponder about possibilities of a joint event, for which several conferences would be organized collective focusing on ICT and how it is applied to Cultural Heritage. The conference would meet at a different location each time and should take place at least every two or three years. DigitalHeritage 2013 Expo has been organised in an area of 700 sq mt in the last floor of the Villa Mediterraneé, this thanks to the support of its director, Michel Vauzelle. The two main organisers, CNR Map and CNR ITABC, have worked together under the direction of Art Clay as exhibition chair, with Livio De Luca as local organiser, and Sofia Pescarin. This catalogue presents an overview of the curatorial concept developed for the Expo includes detailed descriptions of many of the applications that are included in the exhibition

    This open access book is about public open spaces, about people, and about the relationship between them and the role of technology in this relationship. It is about different approaches, methods, empirical studies, and concerns about a phenomenon that is increasingly being in the centre of sciences and strategies – the penetration of digital technologies in the urban space. As the main outcome of the CyberParks Project, this book aims at fostering the understanding about the current and future interactions of the nexus people, public spaces and technology. It addresses a wide range of challenges and multidisciplinary perspectives on emerging phenomena related to the penetration of technology in people’s lifestyles - affecting therefore the whole society, and with this, the production and use of public spaces. Cyberparks coined the term cyberpark to describe the mediated public space, that emerging type of urban spaces where nature and cybertechnologies blend together to generate hybrid experiences and enhance quality of life.
