Det Tekniske Fakultet Nguyen, Chan;Nguyen, Chan;In this thesis energy, exergy and exergoeconomic analysis has been carried out on a different number of co-generation energy systems involving cooling. The models and methods developed can be used as a frame work to improve the district heating and cooling system thermodynamically and/or economically which is the objective of the PhD project.A thermodynamic (energy and exergy) model of a transcritical CO2 cooling and heating system has been developed. The coefficient of performance (COP) of the system is the characteristic of interest. A sensitivity analysis of the parameters: compressor isentropic efficiency, effectiveness of the internal heat exchanger, pressure losses and the pinch temperatures in the heat exchanger on the COP has been carried out. The results show that the COP is most sensitive to the following order of parameters: compressor isentropic efficiency, pinch temperature in the gas cooler, pinch temperature in the evaporator and effectiveness of the IHX. These results are complemented by the exergy analysis, where the exergy destruction ratio of the CO2 system’s component is found. Heat recovery from vapour compression heat pumps has been investigated. The heat is to be used in a district heating system based on combined heat and power plants (CHP). A theoretical comparison of trigeneration (cooling, heating and electricity) systems, a traditional system and a recovery system is carried out. The comparison is based on the systems overall exergy efficiency. The traditional system consists of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant with a separate refrigeration plant, where its condenser heat is rejected to the environment. The recovery system consists of the same CHP plant but with a heat pump, where the condensation heat is recovered. Five different refrigerants (R717, R600a, R290, R22 and R143a) are chosen to be representative for current refrigeration plants of the traditional and recovery system. Also different refrigeration cycle, one and two stage cycle is considered. The CHP plants considered is back-pressure and extraction plant.In general heat recovery is more beneficial if the district heating system is based on back-pressure rather than on extraction CHP plant. Heat recovery with extraction CHP plant is in general questionable. If heat recovery is considered it is recommendable to use two stage cycle rather than one stage cycle heat pump. Apportioning the costs of different energy services which are produced by the same energy system is not trivial. As an example the cost of heating and cooling provided simultaneously by an ammonia heat pump has been apportioned with two costing methods – energy and exergy costing. Parametric study on the heating, cooling and surrounding temperature has been carried out. It has been demonstrated that the two methods yield significantly different results. Energy costing prices the unit cost of heating and cooling equally independent of the quality of the heat transfer, and it tends to overprice the cost of cooling in an irrational manner. Energy costing will also not encourage rational heating and cooling temperature demand and thus will not promote efficient use of resources. These flaws are not seen with exergy costing, since it has taken the quality of heat transfer in to account. Consequently the exergy costing method is found to be the more rational apportioning method for simultaneous district heating and cooling.The methodology of the exergy costing method can also be used to calculate the environmental impact of each consumer. Taxation can eventually be based on this. The method is called exergoenvironmental analysis. As a principle example, the CO2 emission for each of the cooling and heating consumer is found. The conclusion is analogue to the exergy costing method, i.e. the exergoenvironmmental method can be used as motivation for reducing CO2 emission.One of the main obstacles with district cooling in a traditional water based system is the investment cost for the pipes. To overcome this, a combined district heating and cooling system based on CO2 as refrigerant and transport fluid is proposed. Exergoeconomic analysis has been used to evaluate and optimize a CO2 based system for combined heating and cooling. The exergoeconomic method SPECO is used. The system has variable demands which lead to structure change, a difficult challenge for exergoeconomic methods. Structure change in an energy system is when not all of its components are operating in the same time and/or the direction of the fluids change direction. For handling these issues time weighted average of the exergoeconomic variables has been calculated. Based on these variables iterative optimization is carried out. For comparison the CO2 system is also optimized by a direct search method, which results are considered as the true optimized value within four significant digits. The exergoeconomic method tends to converge to the results of the direct search. The computing time is lower for the exergoeconomic method compared to the direct search method. The difference will be more pronounce in favor of the exergoeconomic method, when the system’s complexity increases. It can therefore be conclude that the exergoeconomic method using time weighted average exergoeconomic variables is applicable for the CO2 system with varying demands and structure change.

Sygdommene observeres almindeligvis kun hos voksne, men den almene sundhedstilstand og sundhedsadfærd i barndommen anses for at spille en væsentlig rolle i udviklingen af disse sygdomme. Tidligere studier har påvist, at væsentlige kardiovaskulære sygdomsrisikofaktorer, som f.eks. lav fysisk form og fedme, har en tendens til at fastholdes fra barndom og ind i voksenlivet. Fænomenet kaldes tracking og er ofte blevet studeret i litteraturen. Dog er der oplagte mangler og problemer i den viden, der foreligger på dette område. Tracking af fysisk aktivitet er i altovervejende grad undersøgt på baggrund af selvrapporterede oplysninger, såsom spørgeskemadata, og valideringsundersøgelser har vist, at subjektive metoder til måling af fysisk aktivitet på børn under 10 år ikke er anbefalelsesværdige. Endvidere gælder det generelt, at tracking af kardiovaskulære sygdomsrisikofaktorer er blevet studeret i repræsentative udsnit af totalpopulationer, og tidligere studier har kun i meget begrænset omfang undersøgt, hvorvidt tracking varierer mellem veldefinerede undergrupper af befolkningen. Formålet med indeværende Ph.D. afhandling var, at analysere tracking af fysisk aktivitet over et aldersspænd fra ca. 9 til 15 år vha. accelerometri og at studere potentielle variationskilder i fysisk aktivitet, som kan introduceres ved metodeskiftet fra subjektiv til objektiv bestemmelse af fysisk aktivitet. Endvidere var formålet at studere tracking af fysisk form og kropsmasseindeks over samme aldersperiode, samt at undersøge om tracking er signifikant relateret til socioøkonomisk status. Afhandlingen bygger på data fra den danske del af det internationale multicenter studie The European Youth Heart Study (EYHS). Der er på nuværende tidspunkt gennemført to målerunder i EYHS regi i Danmark. I 1997-98 blev baselineundersøgelsen EYHS-I foretaget, hvor 589 8-10-årige og 429 14-16-årige deltog. Seks år senere blev den yngste af EYHS-I kohorterne genundersøgt, og en ny kohorte af 8-10-årige blev inkluderet i studiet. I alt deltog 458 8-10-årige og 429 14-16-årige i EYHS-II. Fysisk aktivitet blev målt objektivt vha. accelerometri (The uniaxial MTI Actigraph). Fysisk form blev estimeret indirekte gennem en progressiv maksimal cykelergometertest (Watt Max Test) og kropsmasseindeks blev benyttet som et udtryk for kropsfedme. Resultaterne viste, at børn og unges fysiske aktivitetsniveau er betydeligt influeret af temporale faktorer, herunder typen af måledag og måned. Konkrete dags- og månedsestimater blev beregnet og analyserne afslørede to grundlæggende typer af måledage - hverdage og weekenddage. Både 8-10-årige børn og 14-16-årige unge var signifikant mere aktive i hverdagene end i weekenden. Ligeledes viste resultaterne at 8-10-årige børn er signifikant mere aktive i forårsmåneder sammenlignet med vinter- og efterårsmåneder, med et spænd på 318 counts per minut mellem den mest aktive og mest inaktive måned. Endelig viste resultaterne en betydelig dag-til-dag variation i fysisk aktivitet med reproducerbarhedskoefficienter på ˜0.45, efter at analyserne blev korrigeret for den signifikante variation i fysisk aktivitet mellem dagstyper. Ujusterede stabilitetskoefficienter for fysisk aktivitet blev estimeret til 0.18 og 0.19 for henholdsvis drenge og piger. Justeret for temporale variationskilder i fysisk aktivitet herunder dag-til-dag variation, variation mellem dagstyper og målemåneder blev der observeret moderat tracking for fysisk aktivitet med stabilitetskoefficienter på ˜0.50 for både drenge og piger. Fysisk form og kropsmasseindeks viste henholdsvis moderat og høj tracking med stabilitetskoefficienter på henholdsvis 0.50 og 0.73 uafhængigt af køn. Socioøkonomisk status var ikke signifikant relateret til tracking af fysisk form og kropsmasseindeks, men resultaterne viste, at sandsynligheden for henholdsvis at udvikle og fastholde overvægt/lav fysisk form gennem måleperioden, hvilket kan betragtes som underaspekter af begrebet tracking, var relateret til socioøkonomisk status. Oddsene for at udvikle og fastholde overvægt/lav fysisk form blev estimeret til at være ca. dobbelt så store i gruppen af lav socioøkonomisk status i forhold til gruppen af høj socioøkonomisk status. Endvidere blev der observeret en signifikant invers sammenhæng mellem fysisk form og socioøkonomisk status allerede i 8-10 års alderen, mens en signifikant socioøkonomisk forskel i prævalensen af overvægt først udviklede sig i aldersspændet fra 9-15 år.Det blev konkluderet, at temporale variationskilder i fysisk aktivitet kan give anledning til betydelig fejlvariation eller ligefrem bias i intra- og inter-individuelle sammenligninger af fysisk aktivitet og i sammenhængsanalyser, hvor fysisk aktivitet optræder som enten den uafhængige eller afhængige variabel. Konkrete forslag til statistisk håndtering af variationskilderne blev givet. Endvidere blev det konkluderet, at både inaktivitet, lav fysisk form og fedme i barndommen skal betragtes som potentielle mål for interventionsstrategier, der sigter mod at forebygge disse tilstande i voksenlivet. Endelig blev det konkluderet, at børn af lav socioøkonomisk status bør tildeles særlig opmærksomhed i forebyggelsesøjemed, grundet de socioøkonomiske forskelle, som blev observeret i dette studie. I denne forbindelse blev det fremhævet, som en potentiel vigtig strategisk mulighed, at iværksætte initiativer der har til hensigt at sænke antallet af nye tilfælde af overvægt og lav fysisk form i barndommen eller de tidlige teenageår blandt børn af lav socioøkonomisk status.

It is an example of a locally trivial noncommutative bundle fulfilling conditions of the framework recently proposed by Brzezinski and Szymanski. In particular, we give a detailed description of the corresponding C∗-algebra of ‘continuous functions’ on its noncommutative total space. Furthermore, we analyse a different construction of a quantum instanton bundle due to Landi, Pagani and Reina, find a basis of its polynomial algebra and discover an intriguing and unexpected feature of its enveloping C∗-algebra.

Sygdommene observeres almindeligvis kun hos voksne, men den almene sundhedstilstand og sundhedsadfærd i barndommen anses for at spille en væsentlig rolle i udviklingen af disse sygdomme. Tidligere studier har påvist, at væsentlige kardiovaskulære sygdomsrisikofaktorer, som f.eks. lav fysisk form og fedme, har en tendens til at fastholdes fra barndom og ind i voksenlivet. Fænomenet kaldes tracking og er ofte blevet studeret i litteraturen. Dog er der oplagte mangler og problemer i den viden, der foreligger på dette område. Tracking af fysisk aktivitet er i altovervejende grad undersøgt på baggrund af selvrapporterede oplysninger, såsom spørgeskemadata, og valideringsundersøgelser har vist, at subjektive metoder til måling af fysisk aktivitet på børn under 10 år ikke er anbefalelsesværdige. Endvidere gælder det generelt, at tracking af kardiovaskulære sygdomsrisikofaktorer er blevet studeret i repræsentative udsnit af totalpopulationer, og tidligere studier har kun i meget begrænset omfang undersøgt, hvorvidt tracking varierer mellem veldefinerede undergrupper af befolkningen. Formålet med indeværende Ph.D. afhandling var, at analysere tracking af fysisk aktivitet over et aldersspænd fra ca. 9 til 15 år vha. accelerometri og at studere potentielle variationskilder i fysisk aktivitet, som kan introduceres ved metodeskiftet fra subjektiv til objektiv bestemmelse af fysisk aktivitet. Endvidere var formålet at studere tracking af fysisk form og kropsmasseindeks over samme aldersperiode, samt at undersøge om tracking er signifikant relateret til socioøkonomisk status. Afhandlingen bygger på data fra den danske del af det internationale multicenter studie The European Youth Heart Study (EYHS). Der er på nuværende tidspunkt gennemført to målerunder i EYHS regi i Danmark. I 1997-98 blev baselineundersøgelsen EYHS-I foretaget, hvor 589 8-10-årige og 429 14-16-årige deltog. Seks år senere blev den yngste af EYHS-I kohorterne genundersøgt, og en ny kohorte af 8-10-årige blev inkluderet i studiet. I alt deltog 458 8-10-årige og 429 14-16-årige i EYHS-II. Fysisk aktivitet blev målt objektivt vha. accelerometri (The uniaxial MTI Actigraph). Fysisk form blev estimeret indirekte gennem en progressiv maksimal cykelergometertest (Watt Max Test) og kropsmasseindeks blev benyttet som et udtryk for kropsfedme. Resultaterne viste, at børn og unges fysiske aktivitetsniveau er betydeligt influeret af temporale faktorer, herunder typen af måledag og måned. Konkrete dags- og månedsestimater blev beregnet og analyserne afslørede to grundlæggende typer af måledage - hverdage og weekenddage. Både 8-10-årige børn og 14-16-årige unge var signifikant mere aktive i hverdagene end i weekenden. Ligeledes viste resultaterne at 8-10-årige børn er signifikant mere aktive i forårsmåneder sammenlignet med vinter- og efterårsmåneder, med et spænd på 318 counts per minut mellem den mest aktive og mest inaktive måned. Endelig viste resultaterne en betydelig dag-til-dag variation i fysisk aktivitet med reproducerbarhedskoefficienter på ˜0.45, efter at analyserne blev korrigeret for den signifikante variation i fysisk aktivitet mellem dagstyper. Ujusterede stabilitetskoefficienter for fysisk aktivitet blev estimeret til 0.18 og 0.19 for henholdsvis drenge og piger. Justeret for temporale variationskilder i fysisk aktivitet herunder dag-til-dag variation, variation mellem dagstyper og målemåneder blev der observeret moderat tracking for fysisk aktivitet med stabilitetskoefficienter på ˜0.50 for både drenge og piger. Fysisk form og kropsmasseindeks viste henholdsvis moderat og høj tracking med stabilitetskoefficienter på henholdsvis 0.50 og 0.73 uafhængigt af køn. Socioøkonomisk status var ikke signifikant relateret til tracking af fysisk form og kropsmasseindeks, men resultaterne viste, at sandsynligheden for henholdsvis at udvikle og fastholde overvægt/lav fysisk form gennem måleperioden, hvilket kan betragtes som underaspekter af begrebet tracking, var relateret til socioøkonomisk status. Oddsene for at udvikle og fastholde overvægt/lav fysisk form blev estimeret til at være ca. dobbelt så store i gruppen af lav socioøkonomisk status i forhold til gruppen af høj socioøkonomisk status. Endvidere blev der observeret en signifikant invers sammenhæng mellem fysisk form og socioøkonomisk status allerede i 8-10 års alderen, mens en signifikant socioøkonomisk forskel i prævalensen af overvægt først udviklede sig i aldersspændet fra 9-15 år.Det blev konkluderet, at temporale variationskilder i fysisk aktivitet kan give anledning til betydelig fejlvariation eller ligefrem bias i intra- og inter-individuelle sammenligninger af fysisk aktivitet og i sammenhængsanalyser, hvor fysisk aktivitet optræder som enten den uafhængige eller afhængige variabel. Konkrete forslag til statistisk håndtering af variationskilderne blev givet. Endvidere blev det konkluderet, at både inaktivitet, lav fysisk form og fedme i barndommen skal betragtes som potentielle mål for interventionsstrategier, der sigter mod at forebygge disse tilstande i voksenlivet. Endelig blev det konkluderet, at børn af lav socioøkonomisk status bør tildeles særlig opmærksomhed i forebyggelsesøjemed, grundet de socioøkonomiske forskelle, som blev observeret i dette studie. I denne forbindelse blev det fremhævet, som en potentiel vigtig strategisk mulighed, at iværksætte initiativer der har til hensigt at sænke antallet af nye tilfælde af overvægt og lav fysisk form i barndommen eller de tidlige teenageår blandt børn af lav socioøkonomisk status.

It is an example of a locally trivial noncommutative bundle fulfilling conditions of the framework recently proposed by Brzezinski and Szymanski. In particular, we give a detailed description of the corresponding C∗-algebra of ‘continuous functions’ on its noncommutative total space. Furthermore, we analyse a different construction of a quantum instanton bundle due to Landi, Pagani and Reina, find a basis of its polynomial algebra and discover an intriguing and unexpected feature of its enveloping C∗-algebra.
