    Authors: Nadia Nizetich;

    In this paper, I examine the interaction of collective identity, community action, and tourism in the island town of Komiža, Croatia. I hypothesized that efforts to establish sustainable tourism development in Komiža would be influenced by the collective identity of residents. I found that tourism and collective identity act as a feedback loop, with identity influencing community efforts to develop sustainable tourism and vice versa. The findings suggest that in creating sustainable tourism models, we must avoid generalized efforts and instead work with communities to devise strategies that fit their individual needs and characteristics. U ovom se radu ispituje međudjelovanje kolektivnog identiteta, djelovanja zajednice i turizma u otočnom gradu Komiži u Hrvatskoj. Pretpostavka je da će na razvoj održivog turizma u Komiži utjecati kolektivni identitet stanovnika. Utvrđeno je da turizam i kolektivni identitet djeluju u povratnoj sprezi, pri čemu identitet utječe na djelovanje zajednice čiji je cilj razvitak održivog turizma i obrnuto. Rezultati sugeriraju da u stvaranju modela održivog turizma moramo izbjegavati uopćene mjere i umjesto toga raditi sa zajednicama na osmišljavanju strategija koje odgovaraju njihovim pojedinačnim potrebama i svojstvima.

    Authors: Laura Šakaja; Ivana Crljenko;

    In a semiotic sense, the city-text is a symbolic structure with complex social and communicative functions and codes that enable communication between the sender and the recipient of the message, i.e. between the public and its cultural tradition. The textual interpretation of all street names and monuments in a certain area is based on the common characteristics of the city and the written text: these are symbolic entities with fixed, i.e. objectified meanings; they represent the contexts in which they originated, and they are subject to different interpretations. This article explores the ways in which ideology is interwoven into the spatial-symbolic landscapes of the city. The city's periphery, in this case Dubrava – which has a special axiological-symbolic organization – forms an opposition with the city centre (as the "most visible space"). Gradski tekst, shvaćen semiotički, jest znakovna struktura sa složenim socijalno-komunikativnim funkcijama i kodovima koji omogućuju komunikaciju između pošiljatelja i primatelja poruke, odnosno između javnosti i njezine kulturne tradicije. Tekstualno tumačenje ukupnosti imena ulica i spomenika zasniva se na zajedničkim karakteristikama grada i pisanoga teksta: to su znakovne cjeline u kojima se fiksiraju odnosno objektiviraju značenja, oni reprezentiraju kontekste u kojima su nastali te su podložni različitim interpretacijama. U ovom se članku istražuju načini na koje ideologija prožima prostorno-simboličke krajolike grada. Pritom se središtu grada (kao "najvidljivijemu prostoru") suprotstavlja gradska periferija, u ovom slučaju zagrebačka Dubrava, koja ima osobitu aksiološko-simboličku organizaciju.

    Authors: Lončar, Sanja;

    Ana Mlinar je etnologinja konzervatorica, viša stručna savjetnica u Ministarstvu kulture, Upravi za zaštitu kulturne baštine, Konzervatorskom odjelu u Zagrebu (nekada Regionalni zavod za zaštitu spomenika kulture). Gotovo četiri desetljeća radi na očuvanju kulturne baštine, i to u područjima istraživanja, dokumentiranja, pravne zaštite, obnove, prezentacije i interpretacije te edukacije i popularizacije. Ponajviše je usmjerena na očuvanje ruralnih prostornih i graditeljskih vrijednosti te privatnih etnografskih zbirki. Zbog brojnih i uspješnih obnova i revitalizacija dosada je dobila nekoliko nagrada i priznanja strukovnih organizacija i lokalnih samouprava, među kojima su dvije godišnje nagrade Hrvatskog etnološkog društva "Milovan Gavazzi" u kategoriji zaštita kulturne baštine (2006. i 2010.), međunarodna nagrada "Green Apple Awards" za obnovu građevina na rijeci Korani (2006.), nagrade Općine Popovača (2003.) i Grada Otočca (2006.) za promicanje i unapređenje kulturne baštine, te Zahvalnicu Zavoda za varstvo kulturne dediščine Slovenije za dugogodišnji rad na unapređenju struka obiju država (2013.). Najveće priznanje, Nagradu "Vicko Andrić" za životno djelo Ana Mlinar je primila u 2016. godini. To je bio povod i prilika za osvrt na dugogodišnji rad u konzervatorskoj struci i njegove specifičnosti, opće stanje kulturne baštine, te probleme i izazove njenog očuvanja u suvremenom hrvatskom društvu.

    Authors: Reet Hiiemäe;

    This article examines how mental danger maps are mediated in belief narratives. The focus, which is novel, is on narrative localisation phenomena in connection with mobile sources of danger. The author demonstrates the universality of the process of constructing danger maps, illustrating its similarities with older legends (e.g. plague legends) and with modern media-influenced narrations. In addition, the importance of such maps in the selective collecting and remembering of information is discussed, as well as the ways in which they trigger re-narration and actual behaviour. The author concludes that, in addition to pragmatic aims (as a tool for granting safety), such maps also support one’s subjective experience of coping with dangerous situations. Ovaj članak istražuje kako se mentalne mape opasnosti posreduju u narativima vjerovanja. Novi se fokus stavlja na narativnu lokalizaciju fenomena u vezi s pokretnim izvorom opasnosti. Autorica pokazuje univerzalnost procesa stvaranja mapa opasnosti, opisujući njegove sličnosti sa starijim legendama (primjerice legendama o kugi) te modernim pripovijedanjem pod utjecajem medija. Osim toga, raspravlja se i o važnosti takvih mapa u selektivnom prikupljanju i pamćenju informacija, kao i o načinu na koji one dovode do ponovnog pripovijedanja i stvarnog ponašanja. Autorica zaključuje da, osim pragmatičnih ciljeva (kao sredstva kojim se jamči sigurnost), takve mape također podupiru pojedinačno subjektivno iskustvo suočavanja s opasnim situacijama.

    Authors: Reana Senjković;

    Istraživanja u zemljama nekadašnjeg državnog socijalizma, pa i u Hrvatskoj, pokazala su da su stavovi žena prema prošlosti koju su živjele u drugom političkom sustavu pozitivniji od stavova muškaraca, da one, u skladu s time, svoju trenutnu situaciju ocjenjuju lošijom no u "bivšem komunističkom sustavu" te da su sklonije podržati lijevo orijentirane političke stranke. Čitanje triju jugoslavenskih ženskih časopisa iz razdoblja od 1946. do 1975. godine otkriva dijapazon uzornih reprezentacija i kreacija lika zaposlene žene, koje se nude usporedbi sa suvremenim nostalgijskim i/ili kritičkim iskazima. Research in former socialist countries, including Croatia, has shown that women’s opinions and perspectives on their past in the former political system are more positive than men’s. Accordingly, women evaluate their current situation as being worse than it was in "the former communist system", and they are more likely to support left-wing political parties. A reading of the three Yugoslav women’s magazines from 1946 to 1975 reveals the range of representations and creations of working women, suggesting possible references to contemporary nostalgic and/or critical testimonies.

    Authors: Valentina Gulin Zrnić; Tihana Rubić;

    The thematic section of this year’s issue of Etnološka tribina focuses on public spaces. The articles deal with the spatial and linguistic reappropriation and resignification of public space during the protests in Gezi Park, Istanbul in 2013 (Selvelli); conflicting versions of modernity engendered by the construction of and changes made to public spaces in the Serbian town of Jagodina (Petrović); processes of evaluating urban public spaces in Lisbon (Gato); cognitive mapping of movement and race issues in Austin, Texas (Norkunas); public spaces and their revival through urban gardening and cycling (Poljak Istenič); mental mapping and the perception of danger in Estonian spatial examples (Hiiemäe); bottle collectors' interactions and their (in)visibility in public spaces in Zagreb (Vukušić and Stelko); the Situationist concept of dérive as a form of contemporary urban ethnography as discussed through the example of Delhi (Sharanya). The underlying intention of this thematic section is to foster an interdisciplinary discussion concerning the potentials of contemporary urban life and politics so as to develop a participatory, just, as well as socially and environmentally sustainable city. U ovome broju časopisa Etnološka tribina objavljujemo temat koji problematizira javne prostore. Radovi u tematu bave se simboličkim i jezičnim preoznačavanjem javnog prostora prilikom demonstracija u Istanbulu 2013. godine (Selvelli); konfliktnim vizijama modernosti kroz izgradnju i mijenu javnih prostora u srpskom gradu Jagodina (Petrović); procesima evaluacije urbanih javnih prostora u različitim dijelovima Lisabona (Gato); kognitivnim mapiranjem kretanja u američkom gradu Austinu obilježenom rasnom diferencijacijom (Norkunas); javnim prostorima i njihovim oživljavanjem kroz projekte urbanog vrtlarenja i biciklizma (Poljak Istenič); mentalnim mapiranjem i percepcijom straha u primjerima estonskoga prostora (Hiiemäe); interakcijama zagrebačkih sakupljača boca i njihovom (ne)vidljivošću u javnom prostoru (Vukušić i Stelko); te situacionističkim konceptom dérive kao oblikom suvremene urbane etnografije propitane na primjeru Delhija (Sharanya). Radovima koji se bave javnim prostorima u raznim gradovima svijeta želimo, između ostaloga, pokrenuti i raspravu o potencijalnu urbanih politika i suvremenog urbanog života prema razvijanju participatornog te društveno i okolišno održivog grada.

    Authors: Orlanda Obad; Tea Škokić;

    In this article the authors examine gender-based obstacles to successful female entrepreneurs' business practices, especially regarding work-life balance, gendered divisions of domestic labour within the wider problem of social reproduction in patriarchal societies, and business leadership. The authors have applied a qualitative methodology characteristic of ethnographic research. They analyse material from 24 semi-structured interviews with women entrepreneurs. The article's theoretical perspective draws on the feminist critique of gender and discourse analysis, and the research was conducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo and Serbia. The key findings demonstrate that policies and measures intended for the better inclusion of women in the world of entrepreneurship do not suffice unless they are embedded within a wider framework of the critique of patriarchy, as well as within a critique of the dominant concept of entrepreneurship, through gender-conscious intersectoral policies. This research's originality lies in its focus on informal practices, which women perform in both their formal and informal businesses, and which have the potential to become an equally valid model of entrepreneurial behaviour. U radu se propituju rodno uvjetovane prepreke za uspješno poslovanje poduzetnica, posebice u segmentu ravnoteže privatnog i poslovnog života (work-life balance), rodno uvjetovane podjele kućanskih poslova unutar šireg problema socijalne reprodukcije u patrijarhalnim društvima te u segmentu stila vođenja poslovanja. Primijenjena je kvalitativna metodologija karakteristična za etnografska istraživanja – pomoću metode polustrukturiranog intervjua provedeni su razgovori s 24 poduzetnice, dok teorijski okvir pripada feminističkoj kritici roda i diskurzivnoj analizi. Istraživanje je provedeno u Bosni i Hercegovini, Hrvatskoj, na Kosovu i u Srbiji. Ključni nalazi pokazuju da specifične politike i mjere za bolje uključivanje žena u svijet poduzetništva nisu dovoljne ako isključuju širu kritiku patrijarhata, a time i prevladavajućeg koncepta poduzetništva, kroz rodno osviještene međusektorske politike. Novost koju ovo istraživanje donosi odnosi se na neformalne prakse koje žene prakticiraju u svojim formalnim i neformalnim poslovima, a koje imaju potencijala postati jednakovrijedni model poduzetničkog ponašanja.

    Authors: Nadia Nizetich;

    Authors: Laura Šakaja; Ivana Crljenko;

    Authors: Reet Hiiemäe;

    Authors: Reana Senjković;
