U sklopu Projekta Hrvatski iseljenički tisak (u daljnjem tekstu Projekt HIT), Odsjeka za informacijske i komunikacijske znanosti Filozofskoga fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, u suradnji s Nacionalnom i sveučilišnom knjižnicom u Zagrebu, digitaliziraju se publikacije hrvatskih iseljenika, zasad, iz Australije i Novoga Zelanda. U tom je smislu neobično važna i suradnja s hrvatskim iseljeničkim zajednicama u navedenim zemljama jer se za publikacije koje nisu izvan autorskog prava, u sklopu Projekta HIT, prikupljaju dozvole autora ili nasljednika. Suradnja s Nacionalnom i sveučilišnom knjižnicom u Zagrebu i s hrvatskim iseljenicima urodila je s 19 digitaliziranih publikacija do veljače 2022. godine. U izlaganju će se prikazati digitalizirane publikacije prema bibliografskim značajkama koje će se, potom, usporediti s bibliografskim značajkama publikacija popisanih u bibliografijama čija je izradba u softveru Koha sastavni dio Projekta HIT. Temeljem iznesene analize, izložit će se spoznaje o budućim izazovima te budućem tijeku digitalizacije publikacija hrvatskih iseljenika iz Australije i Novoga Zelanda.

The rapid development of new digital tools and infrastructures in the last years, and their application to a variety of disciplines has transformed how we store, access and retrieve information. This has also shaped the ways knowledge is presented and reused in diverse cultural contexts. The exploreAT! project builds upon not only Austrian, but also European cultural identity from the aspect of language, in particular dialects. Unlike standard languages, dialects are in times of globalization under considerable threat of diminishing, and this ultimately poses a risk to the intangible record that is language and through which a history of tangible culture is expressed. In this paper we elaborate on the possibilities digital means and the infrastructure and services of the EGI-Engage project in revealing and giving access to unique traditional cultural knowledge contained in a non-standard language resource on the example of the Bavarian dialects in Austria (DBÖ). Digital tools and services allow our heterogeneous corpus of data to be virtually exploited and preserved. The flexibility of the internet allows these data to become not only visible, but searchable and extractable. Through digitization efforts, and the use of European infrastructures the hidden cultural narratives within the data can be uncovered, enriched and shared for the benefit of information and knowledge society.

In the framework of the H2020 INDIGO-DataCloud project, we have implemented an advanced solution for the automatic deployment of digital data repositories based on Invenio, the digital library framework developed by CERN. Exploiting cutting-edge technologies, such as Docker and Apache Mesos, and standard specifications to describe application architectures such as TOSCA, we are able to provide a service that simplifies the process of creating and managing repositories of various digital assets using cloud resources. An Invenio-based repository consists of a set of services (e.g. database, message queue, cache, workers and frontend) that need to be properly installed, configured and linked together. These operations, along with the provisioning of the resources and their monitoring and maintenance, can be challenging for individual researchers or small-to-moderate-sized research groups. To this purpose, the INDIGO-DataCloud platform provides advanced features for orchestrating the deployment of complex virtual infrastructures on distributed cloud environments: it is able to provision the required resources automatically over heterogeneous and/or hybrid cloud infrastructures and to configure them automatically ensuring dynamic elasticity and resilience. This approach has been successfully adapted to support the needs of the researchers and scholars in the domain of the Digital Arts and Humanities.

There have been significant recent developments in the OA publishing world, and an increasing focus on monographs in particular. There are a number of existing and emerging OA monograph policies, which are leading to an increased focus on business models. Given this dynamic landscape, it was felt that a more in-depth understanding was needed of European monograph publishers’ current business models for open access, their challenges, and their views on how infrastructure for open access monographs could be improved. This white paper builds on the previous OPERAS Business Models Special Interest Group white paper on Business Models for Open Access (Speicher, et al., 2018). In particular, OPERAS wished to gain a better understanding about how the social sciences and humanities (SSH) publishing community applies or could apply collaborative models for open access books, and what issues it encounters in this context. We further wanted to recognise the challenges publishers faced when engaging with or thinking about engaging in collaborative models for OA books. Are there sufficient funds, enough human resources? Are relevant infrastructures in place? What kind of support is needed? This white paper reports on an OPERAS survey, which was held between February and April 2021 and was designed to serve two core aims: 1. To further our understanding of the scholarly publishing landscape and of the challenges that publishers face in the context of publishing OA monographs. 2. To identify main trends (including opportunities and challenges) and the knowledge of collaborative funding and infrastructure models in OA publishing in SSH. The survey received a total of 77 responses from 17 countries: 14 EU states, the UK, Norway, and the United States. The results provide a more comprehensive insight into how OPERAS can make a tangible change and best support the community in building sustainable paths of transition towards collaborative models for open access books. This white paper presents some early observations from the preliminary analysis of the findings.

Knjižnica Etnografskoga muzeja je specijalna muzejska knjižnica, koja je, kao i većina specijalnih i muzejskih knjižnica, poluotvorenoga tipa i prvenstveno namijenjena djelatnicima Muzeja: kustosima, restauratorima i preparatorima. Formirana ubrzo nakon osnivanja muzeja, rasla je zajedno s muzejskim fundusom. U radu se opisuje njezina povijest, važniji fond i obrada građe te iznose neki problemi.

Thanks to funding reveived through the DARIAH-EU Working Group Funding framework and contributions from the Austrian and Croatian National consortiums, the DARIAH-EU working group ELDAH (Ethics and Legality in Digital Arts and Humanities, https://eldah.hypotheses.org/) was able to develop a tool that provides standardized consent form templates for obtaining legal consent from human participants: The DARIAH ELDAH Consent Form Wizard (CFW). The CFW enables digital scholars and the wider research infrastructure community to quickly and easily obtain a standardized consent form that is legally valid in all of the European Union. The tool is freely accessible online and is currently being translated into various languages.

Research and development are facilitated by sharing knowledge bases, and the innovation process benefits from collaborative efforts that involve the collective utilization of data. Until now, most companies and organizations have produced and collected various types of data, and stored them in data silos that still have to be integrated with one another in order to enable knowledge creation. For this to happen, both public and private actors must adopt a flexible approach to achieve the necessary transition to break data silos and create collaborative data sharing between data producers and users. In this paper, we investigate several factors influencing cooperative data usage and explore the challenges posed by the participation in cross-organizational data ecosystems by performing an interview study among stakeholders from private and public organizations in the context of the project IDE@S, which aims at fostering the cooperation in data science in the Austrian federal state of Styria. We highlight technological and organizational requirements of data infrastructure, expertise, and practises towards collaborative data usage.
