Proceedings of the Conference: "Impact of Social Sciences and Humanities for a European Research Agenda - Valuation of SSH in mission-oriented research" VIENNA 2018

This report has been prepared by the “Bibliographical Data” Working Group of the DARIAH-ERIC consortium, which develops public digital research infrastructure for the arts and humanities. The Group consists of more than 30 members from 15 countries, most of whom are researchers and curators in the public sector who are engaged in bibliographical data (“bibliodata”) research and curation. This report is aimed at all active stakeholders in the humanities bibliodata landscape,especially public sector entities who may benefit from the Group’s insights and engage in cooperation to identify common interests, shape joint agendas, and achieve common goals. Those goals include creating shared infrastructure solutions, harmonising existing standards, and building partnerships to meet major challenges for contemporary bibliodata stakeholders. The bibliodata landscape is a dynamic ecosystem including the many stakeholders who produce, process, and use diverse bibliographical resources (datasets, tools, services). Following the digital revolution, this landscape has been reconfigured and a critical era is now upon us that demands closer investigation. This report analyses the state of the art by defining current bibliodata (Chapter 1), mapping the contemporary landscape (Chapter 2), identifying crucial stakeholder challenges and opportunities (Chapter 3), and offering recommendations for future cooperation (Chapter 4). This report presents an overview of issues in the bibliodata landscape. It is intended to provide a foundation for more detailed reports and case studies on the issues identified in this document.

This edited volume collects together peer-reviewed papers that initially emanated from presentations at Digital Classicist seminars and conference panels.\ud \ud This wide-ranging volume showcases exemplary applications of digital scholarship to the ancient world and critically examines the many challenges and opportunities afforded by such research. The chapters included here demonstrate innovative approaches that drive forward the research interests of both humanists and technologists while showing that rigorous scholarship is as central to digital research as it is to mainstream classical studies.\ud \ud As with the earlier Digital Classicist publications, our aim is not to give a broad overview of the field of digital classics; rather, we present here a snapshot of some of the varied research of our members in order to engage with and contribute to the development of scholarship both in the fields of classical antiquity and Digital Humanities more broadly.

The Charter of the EOSC Task Force on Researcher Engagement and Adoption, set-up in September 2021, states that ���The overarching principle for developing EOSC is that research has to be at the core of the EOSC initiative. Thus, deep engagement with research communities is fundamental in order to understand their needs and requirements and ensure that the way in which EOSC operates and the existing and future community services are of use and value to researchers and respect the academic sovereignty of scientific results, research data and digital objects���. Over the last 36 months, FAIRsFAIR has provided practical solutions for the implementation of FAIR data principles throughout the research data life cycle. This has been achieved by fostering FAIR data culture and the uptake of good practices in making data FAIR. The FAIRsFAIR project addressed the development and concrete realisation of academic quality data management, procedures, standards, metrics and related matters, based on the FAIR principles. The engagement of European stakeholders was fundamental across all the activities. To that end, a mix of channels was used with the ultimate aim to ensure active participation and an overall feeling of being part of an enlarged community. For example, a bottom-up approach was established wherever possible and relevant; adaptation and flexibility ensured that the best engagement channels were used to reach each target community. It is important to highlight how the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting decision to organise workshops as online events had a positive impact on allowing interested participants in several activities to be reached. In particular, the switch to online events was instrumental in involving professionals from universities and other higher education institutions, who usually experience a different set of capacity and budgetary challenges, in attending physical events held outside or far from their countries. But this was also true for other events including the Synchronisation Force series, the national roadshows and the data steward instructor training. The participation of different stakeholders in the online workshops greatly enriched the discussions and contributed to shift the focus from Europe-centric issues involving FAIR research data with international insights and experiences. In order to present the impact achieved, this document presents the activities performed and analyses the related results around the FAIRsFAIR main stakeholders.

This document describes a methodology for FAIR-by-design production of learning materials based on the backward instructional process that is extended with additional activities focusing on the implementation of the FAIR guiding principles. A general discussion on important aspect of implementation such as granularity, scope, metadata schema, interoperability and publication in relevant repositories is provided together with a step by step six stage workflow and checklists that help implement the FAIR-by-design process. The outlined methodology will be used as a blueprint for a train-the-trainer course aiming to present the practical FAIR-by-design instructional design.
