This study examines the discourse emerging from cultural heritage content shared online during the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to understand the different affective and cognitive dynamics that are associated with the online sharing of cultural heritage in difficult times. To do so, we analyzed two Instagram hashtags-#ShareOurHeritage and #ShareCulture - that are promoted by UNESCO on a global scale. We applied a comprehensive quantitative method for qualitative data analysis. This method relied on Latent Dirichlet Allocation for topic modeling to generate automated induction of semantic topics and understand the underlying cognitive and affective dimensions of Instagram posts under each topic. Social values- including safety, inclusion, participation, and resilience - positive emotional language, and diverse cultural expressions were the most shared by the investigated hashtag community during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, results showed that users approach the virtual space as a substitute for the loss of their physical place through terms like home, virtual, online, travel tomorrow, and museums from home. Results are discussed in the context of the global digital divide, the social value of heritage to hashtag communities, and the use of Instagram as a longitudinal record of how cultural heritage values change across time.

This article explores how Canadian philanthropic foundations with social justice mandates responded to the social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic by loosening restrictions for grantees; collaborating on new initiatives; elevating grassroots knowledge; and balancing short- and long-term priorities. This response, however, revealed a series of tensions in the dominant pre-COVID-19 philanthropic model—specifically, as a mechanism to address the social, econ- omic, and ecological crises that predate COVID-19. The early pandemic response of grantmaking foundations can there- fore serve as a model for what a more democratic, agile, collaborative, and justice-oriented philanthropic sector can look like. RÉSUMÉ Cet article examine la réponse de fondations philanthropiques canadiennes aux enjeux de justice sociale pendant la pandémie de COVID-19. Elles l’ont fait en assouplissant les exigences exigées aux donataires; en collaborant autour de nouvelles initiatives; en priorisant l’expertise des communautés; et en équilibrant les priorités à long et à court terme. Cette réponse révèle les tensions inhérentes au modèle classique de l’action philanthropique, particulièrement dans les façons de répondre aux crises sociales, économiques et écologiques. This article is the result of research project that aimed to know and understand the perceptions of pre-school children about Covid-19. To this end, a project was implemented that aimed, through artistic education, to give children a voice. This work privileged a qualitative investigation that involves a naturalistic and interpretive approach, where the participant observation and the visual narratives of the children were used as data collection. The results showed that children are aware and knowledgeable about the pandemic and its consequences. Of note is the interest of children in becoming transforming agents in the community in which they live, presenting innovative solutions contributing to help solve Covid-19. / Este artigo resulta de um projeto de investigação que teve como objetivo conhecer e compreender as perceções das crianças em idade pré-escolar sobre a Covid-19. Para tal foi implementado um projeto que pretendeu dar voz às crianças através da educação artística. Este trabalho privilegiou uma investigação qualitativa, que envolve uma abordagem naturalista e interpretativa, onde se utilizou como recolha de dados a observação participante e as narrativas visuais das crianças. Os resultados demostraram que as crianças têm consciência e conhecimento sobre a pandemia e as suas consequências. De salientar o interesse das crianças em tornarem-se agentes transformadores na comunidade em que vivem, apresentando soluções inovadoras e contribuindo para ajudar a solucionar a Covid-19.

Severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is characterized by pneumonia, lymphopenia, exhausted lymphocytes and a cytokine storm. Significant antibody production is observed; however, whether this is protective or pathogenic remains to be determined. Defining the immunopathological changes in patients with COVID-19 provides potential targets for drug discovery and is important for clinical management. In the short time since SARS-CoV2 emerged, much has been learned about the immunopathology of the infection. ABSTRACT This article surveys the ways that the global COVID-19 pandemic has effected higher education in the United States. After reviewing the effects of this critically important historical episode on colleges, particularly as it pertains to the humanities, I outline potential paths forward in the years to come. The fundamental tension I highlight is that between returning to a pre-COVID status quo or imagining an alternative model that is ultimately more sustainable for students and academics alike.
