The present invention relates to a device, system and method for image segmentation of an image of a scene including a subject. To improve the segmentation, the device comprises a receiver (210) configured to receive electromagnetic radiation reflected from a scene including a subject, a polarization unit (220) configured to apply a first polarization on the received electromagnetic radiation to generate first polarized radiation and to apply a second polarization, which is different from the first polarization, on the received electromagnetic radiation to generate second polarized radiation, a sensor unit (230) configured to generate a first image from the first polarized radiation and a second image from the second polarized radiation, and a segmentation unit (250) configured to identify areas of different materials in the scene from a combination of the first and second images. Further, a vital sign determination unit (240) is provided that is configured to select an area representing skin of the subject, to generate a first detection signal having a first polarization direction from the first polarized radiation in the selected area and a second detection signal having a second polarization direction, which is different from the first polarization direction, from the second polarized radiation in the selected area, and to determine a vital sign from the two detection signals by combining the two detection signals.

This record describes ancient sites and monuments as well archaeological excavations undertaken by Danish museums. Excerpt of the Danish description of events: 2016-04-18: Del af forundersøgelsen MHO1082-1.

Background: Complete and partial androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS, PAIS) are associated with an increased risk of gonadal germ cell cancer (GGCC). Recent guidelines recommend gonadectomy in women with CAIS in late adolescence. Nevertheless, many adult women prefer to retain their gonads. Aims: This study aims to explore attitudes towards gonadectomy in AIS in centres around the world, estimate the proportion of adults with retained gonads and/or who developed GGCC, and explore reasons for declining gonadectomy. Methods: A survey was performed among health care professionals who use the International DSD Registry (I-DSD). Results: Data were provided from 22 centres in 16 countries on 166 women (CAIS) and 26 men (PAIS). In CAIS, gonadectomy was recommended in early adulthood in 67% of centres; 19/166 (11.4%) women refused gonadectomy. Among 142 women who had gonadectomy, evidence of germ cell neoplasm in situ (GCNIS), the precursor of GGCC, was reported in 2 (1.4%) out of 8 from whom pathology results were formally provided. Nine out of 26 men with PAIS (34.6%) had retained gonads; 11% of centres recommended routine gonadectomy in PAIS. Conclusion: Although development of GGCC seems rare, gonadectomy after puberty is broadly recommended in CAIS; in PAIS this is more variable. Overall, our data reflect the need for evidence-based guidelines regarding prophylactic gonadectomy in AIS.

Generative machine learning methods deliver unprecedented quality in the fields of computer vision and natural language processing. When comparing models for these task, the user can fast and reliably judge generated data with her bare eye-for humans, it is easy to decide whether an image or a paragraph of text is realistic. However, generative models for time series data from natural or social processes are largely unexplored, partially due to a lack of reliable and practical quality measures. In this work, measures for the evaluation of generative models for time series data are studied-in total, over 1000 models are trained and analyzed. The well-established maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) and our novel proposal: the Hausdorff discrepancy (HD) are considered for quantifying the disagreement between the sample distribution of each generated data set and the ground truth data. While MMD relies on the distance between mean-vectors in an implicit high-dimensional feature space, the proposed HD relies on intuitive and explainable geometric properties of a ""typical"" sample. Both discrepancies are instantiated for three underlying distance measures, namely Euclidean, dynamic time warping, and Frechét distance. The discrepancies are applied to evaluate samples from generative adversarial networks, variational autoencoders, and Markov random fields. Experiments on real-world energy prices and humidity measurements suggest, that considering a single score is insufficient for judging the quality of a generative model.

Brexit has happened, the UK is no longer part of the EU. During the transition period, little will change for business. In theory, anyway. Negotiations will continue about what Brexit will really look like. I will attempt to give guidance for this trajectory, by taking a business and historical perspective.
