In Denmark, the National Board of Health would like to reduce the incidence of breast cancer by means of a leaflet sent to women aged 50-69, since those women often are affected by the disease. Breast cancer occurs annually in up to 4.689 women in average and is therefore a significant problem. Since breast cancer in a few cases are hereditary, this report will shed light on the two genes BRCA1 and BRCA2, wherein the mutation typically occurs.Breast cancer can be treated in different ways, depending on the stage of breast cancer. There are four stages, each of which can be divided from I to IV. I and II usually can be treated with minor surgery (breast conserving surgery) and in which III and IV typically can be treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In a selected chapter from the book "Saving Women’s Lives: Strategies for improving Breast Cancer Detection and Diagnosis", there is several studies, with a view to whether the woman returns to the mammography examination two years later. This knowledge can be used to improve mammography examinations as the National Board of Health emphasizes that the best answer to the examination is yes. It is, however, likely that the choice has consequences, depending on whether the answer is yes or no, since the choice may save lives. There are different ethical views, such as duty ethics, utilitarianism, virtue ethics and teleology ethics, each of which affects the individual ethicists answers on a mammography examination and the related treatment. These ethical views will cause the women's answers to be different when it comes to whether she should say yes or no to the study.

This project examines the distinction between propaganda and documentary in the film Triumph des Willens by Leni Riefenstahl. The project includes an understanding of the perception by the recipient. To get a more nuanced view of the perception, we included a semiotic approach, to look upon the significance of the sign. In the semiotic approach we have chosen three theoreticians, Ferdinand Saussure, Roland Barthes and Christian Metz. Other than semiotics we have looked at terms like media, which have documentary and propaganda in its context. In the pursuit of getting in to the state of the time, we also included a paragraph concerning the historic time in Germany, before and around the time the movie premiered. Through our analysis we have discovered that Triumph des Willens includes a lot of implicit signs that gives a specific connotation to the viewer. These connotations are mythologised by Riefenstahl, and therefore can be categorized as propaganda. We conclude that the boundry bewteen our topics are hard to determine but that Riefenstahls film in the light of our analysis shows a bit more creative treatment of actuality than we usually allow in a documentary.

This project provides a history of ethnographic fieldwork, with emphasis on the developments in the beginning of the 20th century within British social anthropology. The theories applied in the study of foreign societies are clarified through an account of the methods used by the early social anthropologists B. Malinowski and A. Radcliffe-Brown, with the purpose of discovering the role played by fieldwork in determining the scientific value of ethnographic research. This is followed by a discussion of more recent developments within anthropology and the methods used, as well as considerations of the ethical issues that arise in research situations, and an evaluation of the merit of the methods developed by early anthropologists.

Through a study of three time periods (70’s, 90’s and 2016) in Danish feminism, we have sought differences in the idea of gender and the subject for feminism. We have studied the Danish red-stocking movement, radical feminists in the 90’s, Sex and the City, and several contemporary feminist voices in 2016. We have found that the idea of the binary gender has not changed nor is it challenged in the presented feminisms. Our results confirm us in our notion that there is a need to speak of feminisms in the plural, because our analysis shows that several feminisms are incommensurable in theory and action. This also shows that we have not sought to define what true feminism is. We find that Judith Butler’s critique of feminism is still relevant. Our method is an offspring of Foucault’s genealogy, and we use primary sources critically, in seeking answers. We have sought to find the ruling discourses in feminisms, not fringe movements and academic trenches. Therefore, our work is descriptive and analyzing, in that order, and loyal to our sources. We have been careful not to verify and overanalyze, in order to confirm our problem to be assessed. Judith Butler’s theories, in terms of gender, has formed the questions we have asked. Methodologically, we challenge the ability to think outside of discourse and law.

The aim of this report is to understand how the use of geothermal energy might be beneficial in Kenya. This main question is examined through three research questions focusing on each their own aspect of geothermal energy in Kenya. One aspect is the socio-economic benefits of increasing energy production and access to energy. Here it is highlighted that energy in itself does not necessarily create development, however it is explained as an important catalyst for development. Another aspect is the geological and technological potential for geothermal energy production in Kenya. Here it becomes clear that the geothermal potential in the Kenyan part of the East African Rift Valley is large, and that with the current technology used in and knowledge gathered from the production area in Olkaria, Kenya has great potential to exploit more of the 10,000 MWe estimated geothermal resource. The last research question focus on the environmental impacts of geothermal energy production, more specifically on the wastewater and air pollution related to the production in Olkaria. Here it is noted that though the general pollution of geothermal energy production is far lower than that of traditional energy sources, such as coal and biofuels, it is not completely pollution free. From these research questions the general understanding is that geothermal energy might provide several benefits to Kenya, however to understand who will benefit, the discussion part dives into understanding the current official distribution network. Relating the distribution network to the findings related to energy and development, as well as the geological placements of geothermal resources, the report concludes that though Kenya can benefit from the use of geothermal energy resources, these benefits will not reach large parts of the country. On the basis of this, the concluding assumption is that the rural and poor areas of Kenya will not benefit, unless investments are aimed towards expanding the current official distribution network.

The research paper ”Psykopati & tvangsbehandling - af kriminelle psykopater”, investigates the different moral dilemmas occurring when working with normative ethical issues. The ethical issue in question is, in the following paper, that of compulsory treatment of criminal psychopaths. The paper will look further into the different morally relevant factors that need to be taken into account, when trying to determine an action as morally right or wrong, at a normative level. In the following paper we therefore wish to examine the moral implications of compulsory treatment in order to reach a conclusion of our problem statement. To do this, we have drafted four arguments, the first of which is aimed to show how compulsory treatment of criminal psychopaths can be morally defended and the remaining three works as counter-arguments against this first argument. The counter-arguments presented in our paper are regarding the notion of integrity, autonomy and freedom. The scientific methodology of the paper is based on the article of Nils Holtug regarding political philosophy, which will be used in order to analyse and discuss the different arguments presented in the paper. With the argument analysis we seek to create justifications and coherence in the different moral views of the arguments. In Nils Holtugs article about political philosophy we are presented with different terms that all play a role when analysing moral issues at a normative level. It is these terms we proceed to take into use when we analyse and discuss the field of research in the paper. In Holtugs theoretical work we see how a balance between the four different elements that constitutes political philosophy is important in order to give an answer to moral relevant issues in a normative perspective. The results of our analysis of the different arguments show that different philosophical theories present contradictory views regarding the moral issues of compulsory treatment. The different theories presented in the four arguments suggest that the good outcomes of the compulsory treatment, in most cases, overrules the bad. In conclusion the paper suggests that compulsory treatment of criminal psychopaths can be seen as morally justifiable

This project addresses the topic of young people’s learning motivation. Taking as inspiration the claims by several authors in the book Unges motivaiton og læring (2013), about the perception of a dominating “motivations crisis” affecting young people today, we initiated our research by giving attention to several selected concerns of interest to understanding young people’s involvement in the current school system. Upon these we produced and applied an interview to 9th grader students, concerning their individual experience and opinions about going to school. The interview results’ analysis allowed us to focus on four central statements or topics to advance for further analysis based in this case on a theoretical framework that we developed with inspiration by Thomas Ziehe and Gert Biesta. The four statements or topics that we found relevant to link theoretically to the discussion on student’s motivation are: 1) How is it going to school? 2) Subject and content 3) teacher and teaching method 4) motivation. Our analysis revealed that is not lack of motivation but rather it is a question of school fatigue and reluctance, which is interpreted as lack of motivation. A complete understanding on the question of young people’s motivation requires use of several theoretical approaches, and it is dependent on the selection of particular theories and scientific approaches from which the researcher is considering this topic.

In early spring of 2010 the Danish government and their supporting party, ‘Danish People’s Party’ (DF) presented a new integration bill. The aim of this bill is to tighten and improve the already strict integration law, and it consists of a number of different elements, which, according to the Danish government, should help foreigners integrate into Danish society and speed up the process of gaining citizenship. The point of departure in this project has been to investigate the law through a thorough discourse analysis (based on theories by the social constructivists Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau), and thereby investigate how the integration bill, and the following debate in the Danish parliament, constructs and positions foreigners. Our primary target group has been refugees, which, as a result of their background, often have a number of physiological disadvantages (e.g. post traumatic stress disorder). The new proposal could therefore – potentially – debilitate them from integrating and achieving citizenship in Denmark. We investigate potential consequences from both an individual, cultural and societal viewpoint. In the project we criticise the presented bill for not making it possible for groups of foreigners to achieve citizenship, and thereby excluding them, which can be potentially harmful for both individual as well as society.
