    Mémoire de stage; The use of adhesively bonded composite reinforcement for steel structures induce a closer study of the adhesive as it is considered the weakest point in the assembly. A reliable numerical damage model has been developed for the adhesively bonded joints and then verified for different types of configurations. A bi- linear traction separation description of a cohesive zone model was used in ABAQUS to simulate the damage evaluation in the adhesive. It was then compared to experimental results for the global structure behavior (local strains, applied load, applied displacement).; L'utilisation des renforcements par composites collés pour des structures métalliques implique une étude plus approfondie des adhésifs puisqu'il s'agit dans ce cas de l'élément le plus faible dans l'assemblage. Un modèle d'endommagement numérique a été développé pour le joint collé étudié et appliqué pour diffèrent type de configurations. Le modèle bi linéaire de traction- séparation (modèle de zone cohésives) est réalisé sur ABAQUS pour visualiser l'évaluation de l'endommagement de l'adhésive et pouvoir réaliser une comparaison avec les investigations expérimentales (déformation locale, effort appliqué, déplacement appliqué).

    Cubic symmetric Mass-Spring Systems (MSS) for simulating isotropic elastic materials are known to be intrinsically limited by the Cauchy constraints (rari-constant theory) involving Poisson ratio of exactly ν = 1/4. To mitigate the impact of this restriction, we propose a new solution based on correction forces, which authorizes to use MSS for materials with ν ∈]0; 0.5[. The validation of our model is evaluated by comparing its response to various deformations with Finite Element Model (FEM). The results show that the proposed model is relevant to simulate any compressible isotropic elastic material, and in particular nearly incompressible (Poisson ratio ≃ 0.5) biological soft tissues for which it is dedicated.     This presentation deals with an innovative approach to analyze complex and nonlinear systems, which are excited by non-Gaussian and non-stationary random fields, by solving of a statistical inverse problem with experimental measurements. The methodology proposed is applied to the case of a railway system: a train is a nonlinear system with many degrees-of-freedom, which is excited by the track geometry and irregularities. These irregularities are of four types (horizontal and vertical alignment irregularities on the first hand, cant and gauge irregularities on the second hand), and vary from one track to another one, from one country to another one. As the track vehicle system is very non-linear, the characterization of the train dynamics cannot be achieved from the analysis of the train response on a single track portion but has to be made on the whole set of track conditions that the train can be confronted to during its lifecycle. In reply to these expectations, the track geometry of the French railway network has been continuously measured since 2007. Based on these measurements, which can be seen as experimental realizations of the track geometry random field, we develop a two steps methodology to analyze the influence of the track geometry variability on the train dynamics. In a first step, a stochastic modeling of the track geometry is proposed. Two decompositions are therefore used to identify the statistical characteristics of this random field. At first, using the Karhunen-Loève expansion, the considered random field is approximated by its truncated projection on a particularly well adapted orthogonal basis. Then, the random vector, which gathers the projection coefficients of the random field on this spatial basis, is characterized using a polynomial chaos expansion approach.The non-Gaussian non-stationary vector-valued random field is identified using the experimental measurements following the methodology presented in and consequently, constitutes a realistic track geometry stochastic modeling. Secondly, the track geometry variability is propagated to the train dynamics by solving a nonlinear stochastic dynamical problem. The results obtained are presented and analysed.

    -; Driving involves visual exploration of the road environment and one important driving subtask is to look for road signs. We propose a new computational model of visual search saliency in natural scenes, as current ones are limited to laboratory situations. Relying on statistical learning algorithms, our algorithm captures the priors a driver learns on road signs appearance. It can also be applied to other kind of objects. The proposed algorithm is designed to develop a diagnostic system for the road signs saliency allowing to decide if drivers can noticed them well enough. We performed a psycho-visual experiment to asses our model, in a context close to driving, with a remote eye tracker. Subjects were asked to pretend they were drivers of the car from which the images were taken. In the first phase of the experiment, the subjects were asked to count for the "no entry" signs. In the second phase, they had to rate the saliency of each "no entry" sign. The statistical analysis showed that the proposed model is correlated to human behavior using objectives (detection rates and fixation's durations) and subjectives (scoring) indicators of the visual saliency of road signs.

    Cette étude est basée sur des gaines de polyéthylène chargées de noir de carbone et exposées durant un quart de siècle au vieillissement naturel. Une partie des échantillons a été soumise à des vieillissements thermo- et photo-oxydatifs, alors que l'autre partie a été préservée à l'ombre. Après vieillissement, les gaines ont été analysées à différentes échelles par: spectromètrie IR, analyses élémentaires, mesure du temps d'induction à l'oxydation, rhéologie à l'état fondu et calorimétrie différentielle à balayage. Our study is based on stabilised polyethylene-carbon black sheaths aged during a quarter of century in natural conditions. One part of the specimens was subjected to photo- and thermo-oxidative ageing, while the other part, was protect again sun expositions. After ageing, the main structural changes at different pertinent scales were determined using conventional laboratory techniques: IR spectrophotometry, ultimate analysis and OIT for molecular changes, rheometry in melt state for macromolecular changes and differential calorimetry for micro-structural changes.

    -; At a time when regulations are becoming stricter in order to control and limit occupational exposure to pollutant emissions, the road industry is no exception to this trend. One of the main pollutant sources for road workers, and the subject of several studies, is the emission of fumes by Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) at plants and on road sites. Whereas the previous studies concerning this topic have focused on bitumen fumes, the Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées (LCPC) and the Shell Bitumen laboratory have collaborated on the development of a new laboratory device enabling the generation and sampling of asphalt mixture fumes. An innovative mixing and sampling experimental protocol has been developed in order to recreate the different steps undergone by HMA from the asphalt plant to the site. The new sequential method enables monitoring of the changes in concentration of the different fume components : for example, the first tests on two different HMAs show that the evolution of emission outlines may depend on the binder type. In the future, it is planned to study the impact of parameters such as manufacturing temperature, mix design or additive use on the amount and composition of asphalt mixtures fumes.

    Mémoire de stage; The use of adhesively bonded composite reinforcement for steel structures induce a closer study of the adhesive as it is considered the weakest point in the assembly. A reliable numerical damage model has been developed for the adhesively bonded joints and then verified for different types of configurations. A bi- linear traction separation description of a cohesive zone model was used in ABAQUS to simulate the damage evaluation in the adhesive. It was then compared to experimental results for the global structure behavior (local strains, applied load, applied displacement).; L'utilisation des renforcements par composites collés pour des structures métalliques implique une étude plus approfondie des adhésifs puisqu'il s'agit dans ce cas de l'élément le plus faible dans l'assemblage. Un modèle d'endommagement numérique a été développé pour le joint collé étudié et appliqué pour diffèrent type de configurations. Le modèle bi linéaire de traction- séparation (modèle de zone cohésives) est réalisé sur ABAQUS pour visualiser l'évaluation de l'endommagement de l'adhésive et pouvoir réaliser une comparaison avec les investigations expérimentales (déformation locale, effort appliqué, déplacement appliqué).

    Cubic symmetric Mass-Spring Systems (MSS) for simulating isotropic elastic materials are known to be intrinsically limited by the Cauchy constraints (rari-constant theory) involving Poisson ratio of exactly ν = 1/4. To mitigate the impact of this restriction, we propose a new solution based on correction forces, which authorizes to use MSS for materials with ν ∈]0; 0.5[. The validation of our model is evaluated by comparing its response to various deformations with Finite Element Model (FEM). The results show that the proposed model is relevant to simulate any compressible isotropic elastic material, and in particular nearly incompressible (Poisson ratio ≃ 0.5) biological soft tissues for which it is dedicated.     This presentation deals with an innovative approach to analyze complex and nonlinear systems, which are excited by non-Gaussian and non-stationary random fields, by solving of a statistical inverse problem with experimental measurements. The methodology proposed is applied to the case of a railway system: a train is a nonlinear system with many degrees-of-freedom, which is excited by the track geometry and irregularities. These irregularities are of four types (horizontal and vertical alignment irregularities on the first hand, cant and gauge irregularities on the second hand), and vary from one track to another one, from one country to another one. As the track vehicle system is very non-linear, the characterization of the train dynamics cannot be achieved from the analysis of the train response on a single track portion but has to be made on the whole set of track conditions that the train can be confronted to during its lifecycle. In reply to these expectations, the track geometry of the French railway network has been continuously measured since 2007. Based on these measurements, which can be seen as experimental realizations of the track geometry random field, we develop a two steps methodology to analyze the influence of the track geometry variability on the train dynamics. In a first step, a stochastic modeling of the track geometry is proposed. Two decompositions are therefore used to identify the statistical characteristics of this random field. At first, using the Karhunen-Loève expansion, the considered random field is approximated by its truncated projection on a particularly well adapted orthogonal basis. Then, the random vector, which gathers the projection coefficients of the random field on this spatial basis, is characterized using a polynomial chaos expansion approach.The non-Gaussian non-stationary vector-valued random field is identified using the experimental measurements following the methodology presented in and consequently, constitutes a realistic track geometry stochastic modeling. Secondly, the track geometry variability is propagated to the train dynamics by solving a nonlinear stochastic dynamical problem. The results obtained are presented and analysed.

    -; Driving involves visual exploration of the road environment and one important driving subtask is to look for road signs. We propose a new computational model of visual search saliency in natural scenes, as current ones are limited to laboratory situations. Relying on statistical learning algorithms, our algorithm captures the priors a driver learns on road signs appearance. It can also be applied to other kind of objects. The proposed algorithm is designed to develop a diagnostic system for the road signs saliency allowing to decide if drivers can noticed them well enough. We performed a psycho-visual experiment to asses our model, in a context close to driving, with a remote eye tracker. Subjects were asked to pretend they were drivers of the car from which the images were taken. In the first phase of the experiment, the subjects were asked to count for the "no entry" signs. In the second phase, they had to rate the saliency of each "no entry" sign. The statistical analysis showed that the proposed model is correlated to human behavior using objectives (detection rates and fixation's durations) and subjectives (scoring) indicators of the visual saliency of road signs.

    Cette étude est basée sur des gaines de polyéthylène chargées de noir de carbone et exposées durant un quart de siècle au vieillissement naturel. Une partie des échantillons a été soumise à des vieillissements thermo- et photo-oxydatifs, alors que l'autre partie a été préservée à l'ombre. Après vieillissement, les gaines ont été analysées à différentes échelles par: spectromètrie IR, analyses élémentaires, mesure du temps d'induction à l'oxydation, rhéologie à l'état fondu et calorimétrie différentielle à balayage. Our study is based on stabilised polyethylene-carbon black sheaths aged during a quarter of century in natural conditions. One part of the specimens was subjected to photo- and thermo-oxidative ageing, while the other part, was protect again sun expositions. After ageing, the main structural changes at different pertinent scales were determined using conventional laboratory techniques: IR spectrophotometry, ultimate analysis and OIT for molecular changes, rheometry in melt state for macromolecular changes and differential calorimetry for micro-structural changes.
