Unpivoted and cleaned dataset from Johns Hopkins on COVID-19 outbreak

An outbreak of viral pneumonia was reported in Wuhan, China, at the end of December 2019, and subsequent sample analyses discovered the involvement of a new strain of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which belongs to the same family of single-stranded enveloped RNA viruses that caused the emergences of SARS-CoV in 2003 and MERS-CoV in 2012. Symptoms of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 syndrome) may occur within 2–14 days after exposure and can lead to difficulties in cilium beating of airway cells and to alveolar damage. Infected patients experience mild to severe manifestations, such as fever, dry cough, dyspnoea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Most cases resolve rapidly, but the infection can still be fatal in about 3% of cases. Much like MERS or the coronavirus that infects pigs, the enteric affections can be prominent, possibly leading to the loss of absorptive potential. Just a few weeks after its discovery, the COVID-19 has been considered a serious worldwide threat. Preliminary data suggest that male older adults and subjects with immune dysfunctions might be more susceptible to the worse viral disease, but there is a need to further investigate the virulence factors. One of the factors most discussed is the malnutritional status of the host, but most of the beliefs are anecdotal. The dataset was used to write the article "The Malnutritional Status of the Host as a Virulence Factor for New Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2", which was published by the Journal Frontiers in Medicine in 2020.

This dataset include data that may be used to describe how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the work of employees in four European countries and how it influenced their job attitudes, feelings and work performance. In total, 726 respondents from Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy filled out an online survey in May and first days of June 2020. They provided information about their actual work performance, change in work performance, organizational commitment, change in organizational commitment, job satisfaction, intention to leave, irritation, servant leadership (of their supervisor), perceived organizational support, social support provided by colleagues, occupational self-efficacy, resilience, job crafting and readiness for change.

Abstract: Introduction: Members of the LGBT+ community have historically faced structural obstacles denying them the protections and rights guaranteed by full citizenship. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the vulnerability of these individuals to become even more intense and explicit. In light of these developments, this experience report presents and critically analyzes an action executed by medical students to promote equal representation and a care/support and solidarity network among LGBT+ students during the pandemic. Experience Report: This report describes the creation of a video entitled “Evoluiu Challenge” by medical students and graduates from a Brazilian public university. In the face of social isolation and the need for LGBT+ equal representation, encouragement and empowerment in medical schools, actions, such as producing the video, were identified as necessary in order to help the most vulnerable academics find a network of support, solidarity and empowerment among their peers. The project was developed with 20 students and 3 graduates from the same institution, with the video being viewed more than 85,000 times. Discussion: The experience reported here highlights the importance of technological advances to promote “togetherness” in times of isolation and social distancing. In this regard, the video increased the visibility of the LGBT+ population in the medical sphere. Furthermore, it fostered equal representation and the construction of a student support network promoting care, as described in the National Curriculum Guidelines. Conclusion: This experience report clearly demonstrates the need to implement strategies for actions that support the LGBT+ community at universities, such as care/solidarity networks. Such strategies, like the video, will therefore leverage the construction of a more inclusive teaching-learning space, representing an oasis of thought against oppression and space for contestation.

Das Nowcasting erstellt eine Schätzung des Verlaufs der Anzahl von bereits erfolgten SARS-CoV-2-Erkrankungsfällen in Deutschland unter Berücksichtigung des Diagnose-, Melde- und Übermittlungsverzugs. Aufbauend auf dem Nowcasting kann eine Schätzung der zeitabhängigen Reproduktionszahl R durchgeführt werden. Die Reproduktionszahl beschreibt, wie viele Menschen eine infizierte Person im Mittel ansteckt. Sie kann nicht alleine als Maß für Wirksamkeit/Notwendigkeit von Maßnahmen herangezogen werden. Wichtig sind außerdem u.a. die absolute Zahl der täglichen Neuinfektionen sowie die Schwere der Erkrankungen. Die absolute Zahl der Neuinfektionen muss klein genug sein, um eine effektive Kontaktpersonennachverfolgung zu ermöglichen und die Kapazitäten von Intensivbetten nicht zu überlasten.

The dataset contains results of testing in 494 patients who were tested by a selected antigen test and RT-PCR for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 with the intention to validate the antigen test. In addition, virus viability was assessed in all samoles where these two methods returned different results.
