    Bakalářská práce se zabývá čarodějnickými procesy, které se konaly v Severní Americe na počátku novověku. Práce nejprve popisuje terminologii spojenou s pronásledováním čarodějnic a pozadí vzniku procesů samotných, jež započaly v Evropě již ve středověku a byly tedy ovlivněny smýšlením středověké společnosti a postavením církve. Dále se práce zabývá procesy, které se odehrály na území britských kolonií a to konkrétně v Connecticutu, Massachusetts a Virginii. Závěrečná část práce se skládá z rozboru díla Čarodějky ze Salemu v závislosti na skutečném průběhu procesů, které se odehrály v městečku Salem. The Bachelor's thesis deals with the witch trials held in North America in the early modern period. The thesis provides information on terminology connected with witch persecutions and describes the background of the trials, which started in Europe in the medieval times and was influenced by the mentality of medieval society and by the Church. Next part of the thesis describes the actual trials held in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Virginia. The last part of the thesis contains the analysis of the play The Crucible with regard to the trials held in Salem Village. Katedra anglického jazyka a literatury Obhájeno

    The Bachelor thesis examines the life and culture of the Amish community in America. It provides closer view on several aspects of Amish lifestyle and it analyzes possible reasons for Amish separation from the outside modern world. To enable the reader to comprehend hidden meanings of Amish behavior, the thesis presents an inside view on Amish mindset and beliefs. The thesis explores historical background of Amish forbearers, the Anabaptists. It describes the persecution of the Anabaptists in Europe in the 16th century and first Amish settlements in the North America. Other chapters are dedicated to Amish beliefs and values that need to be mentioned in order to further analyze Amish culture. Concerning the culture, topics such as church, Amish rules, family, children, education, life without technologies, farming and clothing are dealt with. The thesis also provides an external view on the community, through the eyes of popular culture and tourism. It introduces the reader the way popular culture portrays the Amish community in literature, movies, documentaries, television shows, series and music. Finally, it examines the way the Amish approach tourism. Bakalářská práce zkoumá život a kulturu amišské komunity v Americe. Poskytuje bližší pohled na několik aspektů životního stylu amišů a analyzuje možné důvody pro oddělení amišů od vnějšího moderního světa. Aby byl čtenář schopen pochopit skryté významy chování amišů, předkládá práce vnitřní pohled na amišské smýšlení a jejich víru. Tato práce zkoumá historické pozadí amišských předků, Anabaptistů. Popisuje pronásledování Anabaptistů v Evropě v 16. století a první amišská osídlení v Severní Americe. Další kapitoly jsou věnovány amišské víře a hodnotám, které je potřeba zmínit pro další analýzu amišské kultury. Co se týče kultury, práce se zabývá tématy jako je církev, amišská pravidla, rodina, děti, vzdělání, život bez technologií, farmaření a odívání. Tato práce také poskytuje vnější pohled na komunitu, očima populární kultury a turismu. Čtenáře seznamuje se způsoby, jakými populární kultura zobrazuje amišskou komunitu v literatuře, filmech, dokumentárních pořadech, televizních pořadech, seriálech a v hudbě. Na závěr, bakalářská práce zkoumá způsoby, jakými se amišové staví k turismu. Obhájeno

    Authors: Barochová, Markéta;

    The bachelor thesis deals with the American author Cormac McCarthy and focuses on the dark issues in three of his novels. The theoretical part consists mainly of an overview of the American literature of 20th century, literature of American South and the genre of Southern gothic in which is Cormac McCarthy often classified. Cormac McCarthy is paid attention to in a separate chapter. The practical part includes the analysis of three McCarthy's novels in which it examines the themes of incest, necrophilia and cannibalism. In individual chapters, the work is targeted mainly on the techniques with which McCarthy handled the given issues. Outer Dark, Child of God and The Road were chosen as the most significant books. Final chapter serves as a unifying one where the work examines to which measure McCarthy utilizes similar aspects in these novels or whether they differ from each other completely. Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na osobu amerického autora Cormaca McCarthyho a temná témata v jeho literatuře. Teoretická část se zabývá především shrnutím americké literatury 20. století, literaturou Amerického jihu a jižanské gotiky, do kterého je McCarthy často zařazován. Osobnost Cormaca McCarthyho dostala svou vlastní kapitolu. Praktická část pak zahrnuje analýzu tří z McCarthyho děl, ve kterých rozebírá témata incestu, nekrofilie a kanibalismu. V jednotlivých kapitolách se zaměřuje hlavně na způsob, jakým McCarthy dané téma uchopil a jakým způsobem jej popisuje. Jako nejpodstatnější díla byla k této bakalářské práci vybrána Vnější tma, Dítě boží a Cesta. Závěrečná kapitola slouží jako sjednocení celé práce a ve výše zmíněných knihách zkoumá, do jaké míry McCarthy používá stejné způsoby k popsání daných témat nebo jestli se naopak jeho přístup pokaždé liší. Předmětem bakalářské práce je osobnost Abrahama Lincolna ve spojitosti s Americkou občanskou válkou. Hlavním cílem této práce je potvrdit, že Abraham Lincoln sehrál důležitou roli v americké historii. Práce je rozdělena do pěti hlavních částí. První dvě kapitoly jsou teoretické a obsahují historický přehled Lincolnova života před Americkou občanskou válkou a během ní. Třetí kapitola analyzuje příčiny Lincolnova zvolení prezidentem. Zaměřuje se na jeho osobní život, průběh kariéry, ale největší důraz klade na Lincolnovu osobnost. Další část se zabývá důsledky jeho vítězství a událostmi, které následovaly. Zlomem v historii země byl začátek války. Poslední kapitola popisuje vyobrazení prezidenta v kultuře a umění, ale i jeho ztvárnění na mincích apod. Na závěr práce jsou shrnuty zjištěné poznatky. The bachelor thesis Native Americans and the Law: The example of the Navajo provides basic information about the structure and system of law of Indians and Indian tribes in the U.S.A. and applies the information to the particular Indian tribe. The thesis has two main parts; in the theoretical part, main doctrines, terms and powers over the Indians and tribes are described, in the practical part, the theoretical information are applied to the Navajo Indian tribe to answer the question, if this tribe has been able to customize the Anglo-American legal system to comply with the traditional Navajo life pattern, and eventually, how they have done that. The conclusion of the thesis is that the Navajo successfully influenced above all the location and extent of their reservation by treaties and executive orders in former times, and today, they can affect by several means primarily the implementation of federal statutes and policies, range of state power over them and broadly regulate their internal affairs on their land. Thus, the Navajo were and are able to customize the Anglo-American legal system to comply with their life pattern and can use many various means to the effect. Bakalářská práce Native Americans and the Law: The example of the Navajo poskytuje základní informace o struktuře a systému práva Indiánů a indiánských kmenů v USA a aplikuje tyto informace na konkrétní indiánský kmen. Práce má dvě hlavní části; v teoretické části jsou popsány hlavní principy, pojmy a pravomoci nad Indiány a jejich kmeny, v praktické části jsou tyto teoretické informace aplikovány na indiánský kmen Navaho, za účelem zodpovězení otázky, zda byl (a stále je) tento kmen schopný přizpůsobit anglo-americký právní systém tak, aby vyhovoval tradičnímu způsobu života kmene Navaho, a případně, jak toho dosáhli (či ještě mohou dosáhnout). Závěrem této práce je, že v minulosti Navahové pomocí smluv a nařízení prezidenta úspěšně ovlivnili především umístění a rozlohu své rezervace, a dnes mohou několika způsoby ovlivňovat hlavně implementaci federální zákonů a politik, rozsah státní moci nad nimi a široce upravovat své vnitřní záležitosti na svém území. Navahové tedy byli a jsou schopni přizpůsobit anglo-americký právní systém tak, aby vyhovoval jejich životnímu stylu, a mohou k tomu využívat mnoha různých prostředků.

    This bachelor thesis deals with the labor migration on an international scale in its very first part and gradually begins to focus on labor migration in relation to the Czech Republic. In connection with this issue, the thesis also deals with the economic side of things and the impact on society in terms of the international scale and with the economic and political background and attitude of the country in terms of the relation to the Czech Republic. In the thesis organizations dealing with the issue of labor migration are represented in various grades. On the territory of the Czech Republic the questionnaire with aim to find diverse information concerning personal experience with the labor migration took place. The labor migration in relation to the Czech Republic is analysed in the territory of the Czech Republic and includes answers of Czechs as well as of foreigners. Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o pracovní migraci v mezinárodním měřítku a postupně se začíná více soustředit na pracovní migraci v rámci České republiky. V souvislosti s touto problematikou pojednává také o ekonomické stránce věci a dopadu na společnost v rámci mezinárodního měřítka a ekonomickém a politickém kontextu a postoji země v rámci České republiky. V práci jsou v různých stupních představeny organizace zabývající se pracovní migrací. Na území České republiky zároveň proběhlo dotazování respondentů s cílem zjistit různorodé informace týkající se osobní zkušenosti s pracovní migrací. Pracovní migrace v rámci České republiky je analyzována na území České republiky a zahrnuje odpovědi jak Čechů tak cizinců. Obhájeno

Obhájeno

    Authors: Barochová, Markéta;
