    Ο μεσαιωνικός κόσμος, βυζαντινός, δυτικός και ανατολικός, συνιστά πρόσφορο πεδίο μελέτης. Κρίσεις πολιτικές, κοινωνικές, οικονομικές, θεσμών, διεθνών σχέσεων κ.ά. έπλητταν τις κοινωνίες της εποχής, άλλοτε μεμονωμένα και άλλοτε καθολικά. Η θεματική των διαλέξεων επιχειρεί να προβάλει ποικίλες περιπτώσεις και φαινόμενα, όπως επίσης αποσκοπεί να αναδείξει, μεταξύ άλλων, τους τρόπους με τους οποίους αντιμετωπίστηκαν τέτοιου είδους κρίσεις από διαφορετικούς μεσαιωνικούς πολιτισμούς.

    Authors: Spinoula Christina;

    Οι θεωρίες των Άγγλων θρησκευτικών προσφύγων J.Ponet και Ch.Goodman, όπως αποτυπώνονται στις πραγματείες τους, αποτελούν την αφετηρία ενδιαφέροντος αυτής της μεταπτυχιακής εργασίας πάνω στην θεματική της τυραννομαχίας, όπως εκφράζεται η πολιτικοποίηση του προτεσταντικού δικαίου αντίστασης στους βίαιους διωγμούς στην Ευρώπη του 16ου αιώνα. Παρουσιάζεται μια σχέση συνέχειας της τυραννομαχικής γραμματείας μέσα από μια συγκριτική εξέταση, η οποία εκκινεί από τα επιχειρήματα νομιμοποίησης της άμυνας των Μεταρρυθμιστών το 1530 στην Αγία Ρωμαϊκή Αυτοκρατορία, ακολουθεί την τροποποίησή τους φτάνοντας στην διατύπωση της τυραννοκτονίας το 1550 από τους Άγγλους συγγραφείς και καταλήγει στην ουγενοτική επιλεκτική αξιοποίησή τους το 1570. Προτάσσεται το φυσικό δίκαιο σαν συνδετικός άξονας, στην ανάπτυξη του οποίου η συμβολή των Μαριανών υπήρξε θεμελιώδης και το οποίο παρά την άλλοτε υποκρύπτουσα θρησκευτικότητά του οδήγησε σε μια εκκοσμίκευση της αντίληψης για την μοναρχία χάρη στην μετατόπιση της ιερότητας στους όρους συμβολαίου της κοινοπολιτείας. This master thesis takes as starting point the theories founded on two treatises of the religious exiles named J. Ponet and Ch. Goodman. The general thematic of tyrannomach theories is viewed as an expression of the politicization of Protestants facing religious persecution in 16th century Europe. It is suggested a continuity link through a comparative study, starting with the Lutheran defense arguments in Holy Roman Empire on 1530’ continuing with their radicalization from Marian exiles asking for tyrannicide on 1550’ and ending up with the conditional use of them from the Huguenots on 1570’. The role the Marian exiles played in developing the natural law is crucial because it serves as a bridge between the authors giving the possibility of covering the religious sentiment when it was needed and driving them in a secularized view of monarchy since its sacred hypostasis was displaced by the laws of commonwealth’s covenant.

Of course, the concept of the state had not yet taken the form it has in modern times. States, these new political structures, often had no territorial continuity, as their borders were often changed and treated by their kings as family feuds.     Authors: Georgopoulou Eirini;

    Η παρούσα Μεταπτυχιακή Διπλωματική Εργασία (Μ.Δ.Ε.) πραγματεύεται τους εμφύλιους πολέμους της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης του 1821, μέσα από τα Αρχεία Λαζάρου και Γεωργίου Κουντουριώτου 1821-1832 και το Αρχείον της Κοινότητος Ύδρας 1778-1832. Από το ξεκίνημά της η Ελληνική Επανάσταση, πέρα από το αίτημα για ελευθερία, έθεσε και το πολιτικό διακύβευμα της δημιουργίας εθνικού ανεξάρτητου κράτους. Ωστόσο, ποιος θα ήταν ο χαρακτήρας του κράτους που θα προέκυπτε μετά την αποτίναξη του οθωμανικού ζυγού και ποιοι θα μετείχαν στα όργανα διοίκησης του νέου κράτους; Μέσα από τον λόγο των πρωταγωνιστών των γεγονότων, και κυρίως των Υδραίων πολιτικών, των νικητών της εμφύλιας σύγκρουσης, όπως αυτός αποτυπώνεται στα Αρχεία Λαζάρου και Γεωργίου Κουντουριώτου και στο Αρχείον της Κοινότητος Ύδρας, η παρούσα μελέτη θα προσπαθήσει να ανιχνεύσει το αν ήταν αναπόφευκτη η σύγκρουση και κατά πόσο αυτή συνιστούσε τη «φυσιολογική» απόληξη μιας κατακερματισμένης προνεωτερικής κοινωνίας που έκανε τα πρώτα της βήματα προς τη συγκρότηση ενός σύγχρονου εθνικού κράτους. Θα προσπαθήσει, επίσης, να απαντήσει στο ερώτημα γιατί ο νικητής των εμφύλιων πολέμων ήταν οι πολιτικοί της Ύδρας και, συγκεκριμένα, η οικογένεια Κουντουριώτη και αν η έκβαση των γεγονότων θα μπορούσε να ήταν διαφορετική. Θα επιχειρήσει, δηλαδή, να δώσει τις απαντήσεις αυτές μέσα από τη ματιά των νικητών. Η τεκμηρίωση στηρίχθηκε κατεξοχήν στην εκτενή αλληλογραφία των αδελφών Κουντουριώτη αλλά και άλλων προσώπων που έλαβαν μέρος στα γεγονότα των εμφυλίων, και στις αποφάσεις και διακηρύξεις της «Προσωρινής Διοίκησις της Ελλάδος», κατά τη χρονική περίοδο 1821-1825, οι οποίες βρίσκονται στα Αρχεία Λαζάρου και Γεωργίου Κουντουριώτου και στο Αρχείον της Κοινότητος Ύδρας. Το υλικό αυτό συνδυάστηκε με τη βασική βιβλιογραφία της Ελληνικής Επανάστασης, καθώς και με άλλες πρωτογενείς πηγές, όπως τα Απομνημονεύματα αρκετών εκ των πρωταγωνιστών των γεγονότων. Εισαγωγικά, εξετάζεται η σχέση επαναστάσεων και εμφύλιων πολέμων και δίνεται μια επισκόπηση των γεγονότων της εμφύλιας σύγκρουσης, ώστε να υπάρξει μία πρώτη επαφή με όσα πρόκειται να εκτεθούν στη συνέχεια. Η εργασία χωρίζεται σε τρία κεφάλαια με αρκετές υποενότητες. Το πρώτο κεφάλαιο αναφέρεται στην οργάνωση του προεπαναστατικού ελλαδικού χώρου σε πολιτικό και οικονομικό επίπεδο, η οποία θα καθορίσει στάσεις, νοοτροπίες και συμπεριφορές τόσο σε ατομικό όσο και σε συλλογικό επίπεδο, και κατά τη διάρκεια του εμφύλιου σπαραγμού. Συγκεκριμένα, περιγράφεται η διοικητική οργάνωση της Πελοποννήσου, της Στερεάς Ελλάδας και της Ύδρας, καθώς και ο ρόλος των κοτζαμπάσηδων, των αρματολών και των νοικοκυραίων αντίστοιχα, ως προϋπάρχοντες πολιτικοί παράγοντες. Το δεύτερο κεφάλαιο αφορά τις διαδικασίες συγκρότησης κεντρικής Διοίκησης μέσα από τη σύγκληση των δύο Εθνοσυνελεύσεων και τις αντιπαλότητες και διενέξεις που αυτές παρήγαγαν. Καταδεικνύεται πως η Β΄ Εθνοσυνέλευση επιβεβαίωσε τον διχασμό των Ελλήνων, τη λήξη της οποίας ακολούθησε η τραγική πορεία προς τη ρήξη των δύο Σωμάτων της Διοίκησης, του Εκτελεστικού και του Βουλευτικού, η δημιουργία δύο Κυβερνήσεων και η συνακόλουθη ένοπλη αναμέτρηση. Στο τρίτο και τελευταίο κεφάλαιο περιγράφονται οι δύο φάσεις της εμφύλιας σύγκρουσης, με την οικογένεια Κουντουριώτη να έχει αποκτήσει κεντρικό ρόλο στα πολιτικά πράγματα, μετά την εκλογή του Γεωργίου Κουντουριώτη ως Προέδρου του Εκτελεστικού Σώματος τον Δεκέμβριο του 1823. Αναδεικνύονται οι πολιτικοί χειρισμοί της Διοίκησης μέχρι την τελική επικράτηση και εμπέδωση της κυριαρχίας της κυβέρνησης Κουντουριώτη. Στη βάση όλων αυτών, υποστηρίζεται το αναπόδραστο του εμφύλιου σπαραγμού, καθώς ως φαίνεται ήταν τόσο έντονα τα πάθη, και τόσο ισχυρή η προεπαναστατική κληρονομιά που δύσκολα θα μπορούσε να αποφευχθεί η σύγκρουση. Συμπεραίνεται, επίσης, πως ο νικητής του εμφύλιου πολέμου δεν θα μπορούσε να ήταν άλλος από τους πολιτικούς της Ύδρας και, συγκεκριμένα, την οικογένεια Κουντουριώτη, αλλά και το τέλος της σύγκρουσης διαφορετικό. Με μεγάλο ναυτικό παρελθόν το νησί της Ύδρας και οικονομική δύναμη οι άρχοντες του νησιού - και η οικογένεια Κουντουριώτη, - η συμβολή τους θεωρούνταν καθοριστική για την επιτυχή έκβαση του επαναστατικού εγχειρήματος. Δεδομένου του καίριου αυτού ρόλου τους αλλά και ενισχυμένη η κυβέρνηση Κουντουριώτη, με τα χρήματα των δύο δόσεων του αγγλικού δανείου, κατάφερε να μεταβάλλει τους πολιτικούς συσχετισμούς προς όφελός της και να επικρατήσει διά της βίας έναντι των πολιτικών της αντιπάλων. The present Postgraduate Diploma Thesis discusses the civil wars that occurred during the Greek Revolution of 1821, as seen through the Archives of Lazaros and Georgios Kountouriotis 1821-1832 and the Archive of Hydra’s community 1778-1832. Since its inception, the Greek Revolution, beyond the quest for freedom, sought the creation of an independent national state. However, what kind of state could emerge following the independence from the ottoman reign and who could lead it. Through the statements of the protagonists themselves and mainly Hydras’ politicians, the victors of the civil conflict, as can be seen from the Archives of Lazaros and Georgios Kountouriotis and the Archive of Hydra’s community, the current thesis will attempt to explore the unavoidable of the conflict and whether it could be considered a «natural» occurrence derived from a divided pre-modern society taking its first steps towards the creation of a contemporary nation. In addition, the thesis will also try to identify the conditions that lead to the victorious outcome of the civil war for the Kountouriotis’ family side and whether that outcome could have been different. It will attempt to answer all those questions through the perspective of the victors. The documentation relied on the extensive correspondence between the two Kountouriotis brothers as well as others who played a vital part in the events of the civil conflict. Additionally, it will also be relying on the decisions and proclamations of the «Temporary Greek Government» during 1821-1825, that are recorded in the Archives of Lazaros and Georgios Kountouriotis and the Archive of Hydra’s community. Furthermore, in combination with the above, basic bibliography of the Greek Revolution along with memoirs were used for the purposes of said documentation. Indroductionaly, the relation between rebellions and civil wars is examined along with presenting an overview of the events that took place during the civil wars, with the purpose of facilitating the understanding of the following analysis. The thesis is divided in three chapters and several subsections. The first chapter refers to the organization of the pre-revolutionary greek territory from a political and financial viewpoint that will provide with a powerful insight on people's mentality and behavior, both on a collective as well as on an individual level, during the civil conflicts. Specifically, the structure of command in the areas of the Peloponnese, central Greece and Hydra is analyzed in addition to the roles of «kotsabasides», «armatoloi» and «noikokyraioi», all part of a preexisting political entity. The second chapter is referencing the attempts and process of assembling a central government by the two national assemblies and the rivalries that said process gave birth to. What is more in this chapter, it is demonstrated how the second national assembly confirmed the divide between the Greek revolutionaries that lead to the separation of the Executive and Parliamentary body of command, resulting in two different governments and an armed conflict. In the third and final chapter, the two phases of the civil war are described, with Kountouriotis' family having acquired a central role in the political world after the election of Georgios kountouriotis as President of the Executive body in December 1823. A significant insight is given in the delicate political handling of things by the government leading to the complete prevalence and consolidation of dominance by the Kountouriotis’ government. Taking all relevant factors into consideration, the civil conflict could be considered unavoidable given the pre-revolutionary state of things along with the deep rivalry that had developed between the conflicted sides. The victor of the civil war could not have been other than the politicians of Hydra and Kountouriotis' family specifically, given the long naval tradition and financial capabilities of said men. Kountouriotis' family contribution was decisive to the successful outcome of the Greek Revolution. Given that and enhanced with money received from the two British loans, Kountouriotis' government accomplished a decisive but also violent dominance over their political opponents.

    Σκοπός της εργασίας είναι η διερεύνηση των γλωσσικών χαρακτηριστικών στα κειμενικά είδη που εμφανίζονται στα σχολικά εγχειρίδια της Ιστορίας και της Βιολογίας του γυμνασίου, με βάση το θεωρητικό πλαίσιο και τη μεθοδολογία της Συστημικής Λειτουργικής Γλωσσολογίας (ΣΛΓ). Συγκεκριμένα, αναλύονται οι λεξικoγραμματικοί πόροι και τα σημασιολογικά χαρακτηριστικά σε είκοσι τέσσερα συνολικά κείμενα από τα σχολικά εγχειρίδια. Η έρευνα εστιάζει στις διαδικασίες και τους μετέχοντες (σύστημα μεταβιβαστικότητας), στη λεξική πυκνότητα, στην τροπικότητα, στη γραμματική μεταφορά (ιδίως στην ονοματοποίηση), στην χρονικότητα και την αιτιότητα και στις συνδετικές σχέσεις. Οι διαφοροποιήσεις του λόγου των ανθρωπιστικών και φυσικών επιστημών, η αφαίρεση και η τεχνικότητα, και τα σύνδρομα χαρακτηριστικών που χαρακτηρίζουν τα κειμενικά είδη, εξετάζονται σε συσχέτιση και με τα ευρήματα συναφών ερευνών που έχουν γίνει τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και διεθνώς (κυρίως στην Αυστραλία). Όπως προκύπτει από την ανάλυση των αποτελεσμάτων, τα χαρακτηριστικά αυξάνονται από τη μία τάξη στην άλλη και εντοπίζονται διαφορές στα δύο αντικείμενα. Η ανασυγκρότηση της γνώσης απαιτεί από τα παιδιά του γυμνασίου εξοικείωση με τις γραμματικές μορφές της γραπτής γλώσσας και του τρόπου που αναπτύσσονται στα κειμενικά είδη στα διάφορα μαθήματα. Επιπλέον, προτείνεται η συστηματικότερη ανάλυση και προσαρμογή των εργαλείων της ΣΛΓ στην ελληνική γλώσσα, δεδομένου ότι έχει εφαρμοστεί κατά κύριο λόγο στην αγγλική, και, τέλος, γίνονται κάποιες προεκτάσεις στην εκπαίδευση και τον γραμματισμό με γνώμονα μια ισονομιστική και χειραφετητική γνώση. The purpose of this study is to investigate the language of genres in History and Biology school textbooks in early secondary school (gymnasio), within the frame of systemic functional linguistics (SFL). More specifically, our aim is to analyze the lexicogrammar and semantics of twenty four texts from school textbooks. The study focuses on processes and participants (system of transitivity), lexical density, modality, grammatical metaphor (especially nominalization), temporality, causality and conjunctive relations. Differences in discourse of humanities and natural sciences, technicality and abstraction, and the co-occurrence (syndromes) of characteristics in different genres are considered in relation with the findings of relevant Greek and international researches. According to data analysis, there is an increasing tension from lower to higher grade and some differences between the two subject areas. The reconstruction of knowledge demands from early secondary pupils familiarization with grammatical forms of written language and with the way that they are deployed in school genres. Furthermore, it is suggested more specific analysis and adaptation of SFL tools in Greek language, given that they have implemented basically in English, and, finally, our remarks are extended to education and literacy under the rule of equal opportunities and emancipative knowledge.

    Monte Carlo methods apply various physical models, either condensed history (CH) or track structure (TS), to simulate the passage of radiation through matter. Both CH and TS models continue to be applied to radiation dosimetry investigations on a micro and nano scale. However, as there has been no systematic comparison of the use of these models for such applications there can be no quantification of the uncertainty that is being introduced by the choice of physics model. A comparison of CH and TS models available in Geant4, along with a quantification of the differences in calculated quantities on a micro and nano scale, has been undertaken in this study. A sphere of liquid water was simulated, with an incident beam of monoenergetic electrons with kinetic energy between 50 eV and 10 keV. The energy deposition (typical of microdosimetry) and number of ionisations (typical of nanodosimetry), per incident particle, were recorded in a water sphere with diameter varying between 1 nm and 1 m. The simulations were repeated using the following physics packages: Livermore (CH), Penelope (CH) and Geant4-DNA (TS). Results indicated that substantial differences were present between calculated physical quantities, depending on the physics model, target diameter and ratio of the target diameter and mean track length of the incident electron. In the case of the smallest targets, the calculated energy deposition was higher when using the CH models, while the number of ionisations was typically underestimated. In larger targets the energy deposition was in good agreement for all physics models, however the number of ionisations was significantly underestimated by the CH approach, in some cases by almost two orders of magnitude. Regarding CH models, the parameter that had the greatest impact on the results was found to be the threshold of production of secondary particles; when this was minimised the CH and TS results showed the best agreement. An analysis of the place names of the coastal area of Crimea (Tauris) has been found in the description of Pallas (1795), along with the study of two or three historic «monuments» of the written and oral linguistic tradition of the Crimean Greeks, make it possible to establish a small vocabulary. This historic glossary provides several direct and indirect informations on the cultural heritage of the Greek speaking communities of Mariupol who live along with the Tatar-speaking Urums who have an ethnic Greek identity. An Urum-Ukrainian dictionary established by Alexander Garkavets has been appended herewith Le parler Grec (Rouméika) contemporain de la région de Mariupol (Azov, Ukraine) est la forme moderne de la langue parlée par les Hellénophones Roumeoi de la péninsule de Crimée. L’analyse des noms de lieu de la zone côtière de Crimée, que nous trouvons dans la description de Pallas (1795), complétée par l’étude de deux ou trois «monuments» de l’histoire linguistique de la tradition écrite et orale de la Crimée, permettent de dresser une liste d toponymes. Ce lexique historique contient de nombreuses indications, directes et indirectes, portant sur l’héritage culturel des Hellénophones de Mariupol ainsi que des Tatarophones Ouroum qui ont une identité ethnique hellénique. En Annexe on trouvera le dictionnaire Ouroum-Ukrainien etabli par Alexander Garkavets.

Of course, the concept of the state had not yet taken the form it has in modern times. States, these new political structures, often had no territorial continuity, as their borders were often changed and treated by their kings as family feuds.     Authors: Georgopoulou Eirini;
