    Authors: Habekost, Maike; Lange, Markus; Gleixner, Gerd;

    This data set contains soil carbon measurements (Organic carbon, inorganic carbon, and total carbon; all measured in dried soil samples) from the main experiment plots of a large grassland biodiversity experiment (the Jena Experiment; see further details below). In the main experiment, 82 grassland plots of 20 x 20 m were established from a pool of 60 species belonging to four functional groups (grasses, legumes, tall and small herbs). In May 2002, varying numbers of plant species from this species pool were sown into the plots to create a gradient of plant species richness (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 60 species) and functional richness (1, 2, 3, 4 functional groups). Plots were maintained by bi-annual weeding and mowing. Soil sampling and analysis: Stratified soil sampling was performed in April 2006 to a depth of 30 cm. Three samples per plot were taken using a split tube sampler with an inner diameter of 4.8 cm (Eijkelkamp Agrisearch Equipment, Giesbeek, the Netherlands). Sampling locations were less than 30 cm apart from sampling locations in 2002. Soil samples were segmented into 5 cm depth segments in the field (resulting in six depth layers) and made into composite samples per depth. Subsequently, samples were dried at 40°C. All soil samples were passed through a sieve with a mesh size of 2 mm. Because of much higher proportions of roots in the soil, samples in years after 2002 were further sieved to 1 mm according to common root removal methods. No additional mineral particles were removed by this procedure. Total carbon concentration was analyzed on ball-milled subsamples (time 4 min, frequency 30 s**-1) by an elemental analyzer at 1150°C (Elementaranalysator vario Max CN; Elementar Analysensysteme GmbH, Hanau, Germany). We measured inorganic carbon concentration by elemental analysis at 1150°C after removal of organic carbon for 16 h at 450°C in a muffle furnace. Organic carbon concentration was calculated as the difference between both measurements of total and inorganic carbon. The reliability of interfering the organic carbon content from measured total and measured inorganic carbon after removal of organic carbon was supported by measurements of certified reference soil material (HEKAtech GmbH, Wegberg, Germany) on a regular basis. The repeated measurements of the soil standard resulted in an excellent relative standard deviation for organic carbon concentration measurements of 1.2%. In some years, measurements of soil carbon in a depth of up to 1m are available. There are two types of missing values contained in the dataset. Empty cells represent missing values that result from the design of the experiment when the respective value does not occur and thus cannot be measured. Missing values that resulted from methodological problems, sampling errors, or lost samples/data are marked with "-9999".In addition to measurement of soil carbon, measurements of dissolved organic carbon in soil solution are available.This datasets is part of a time series of soil carbon measurements in the Main Experiment since 2002 (doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.848946).

    Authors: M.J.M. de Wit;

    Aanleiding tot de hier beschreven archeologische begeleiding (protocol opgraven) betreft de aanleg van een nieuw riool ten behoeve van nieuwbouwplan Bessemoerpark in de wijk Paddepoel te Groningen.Omdat deze plannen met bodemverstorende ingrepen gepaard gaan, is een archeologisch onderzoek noodzakelijk. Eerder onderzoek in de directe omgeving heeft aangegeven dat zich binnen het plangebied een uitloper van de Hondsrug bevindt en dat hier archeologische waarden kunnen worden verwacht. Broekema Bouw heeft MUG Ingenieursbureau, afdeling Archeologie, opdracht gegeven een archeologische begeleiding uit te voeren. De begeleiding heeft plaatsgevonden in de periode tussen 12 september en 4 oktober 2013 en betreft vier locaties. Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd conform de eisen van de Kwaliteitsnorm Nederlandse Archeologie (KNA), versie 3.2, en de richtlijnen uit het Programma van Eisen (Timmerman & De Wit 2013). De bodemopbouw binnen het onderzoeksgebied bestaat globaal gezien uit klei op dekzand. Onder hethuidige maaiveld/de huidige bouwvoor bevindt zich op de meeste plaatsen een recent opgebrachte laag met veel puin. Deze laag kan worden gerelateerd aan het bouwrijp maken en egaliseren van het gebied voorafgaand aan de bouw van de wijk Paddepoel in de jaren ’60 van de vorige eeuw. Onder deze opgebrachte laag is in een aantal gevallen een kleilaag aanwezig die als de voormalige bouwvoor geïnterpreteerd kan worden. Hieronder volgen natuurlijke kleiafzettingen met daaronder het dekzand, op grotere diepte overgaand in keileem. Op locatie 2 bevindt zich tussen de kleilagen een oude akkerlaag. Ook wordt hier een laag lichtbruin/lichtgrijs kleiig zand aangetroffen, met zeer veel roestvlekken, die kan worden geïnterpreteerd als een oeverwalafzetting. Op locatie 4 zijn in alle gedocumenteerde profielen geulvullingen aangetroffen, afgewisseld met lagen klei. De geulvullingen bevinden zich direct onder de recente ophooglaag.De tijdens de archeologische begeleiding aangetroffen sporen bestaan hoofdzakelijk uit sloten (acht stuks) en greppels (drie stuks). Daarnaast is een klein aantal (paal)kuilen aangetroffen, vier stuks in totaal. De sporen zijn op verschillende niveaus aangetroffen. De meeste (paal)kuilen zijn in de kleilaag boven de top van het dekzand aangetroffen en niet op hogere niveaus. De meeste sloten en greppels daarentegen snijden zich voornamelijk wel van hoger gelegen niveaus in in het dekzand en hebben een subrecente ofnieuwetijdse datering. De twee slootjes die in werkput 4 (sporen 3 en 4) zijn aangetroffen, zijn de enige sloten waaraan een oudere datering kan worden gegeven. Beide slootjes zijn afgedekt door hetzelfde roestige kleipakket dat de geul afdekt en dateren vermoedelijk uit de ijzertijd.Bijzonder is de vondst van een laag aangebrachte takken en twijgen onderin de geulvulling in werkput 4. De takken en twijgen liggen in de geul en lijken op een soort mat, wellicht hier geplaatst om een oversteekplek te creëren. Bij deze laag is eveneens een houten paal (spoor 2) gevonden die blijkt aangepunt te zijn. Tijdens het onderzoek is een zeer kleine hoeveelheid vondstmateriaal aangetroffen, bestaande uit aardewerk en hout. Afgezien van een aardewerkscherf uit de oude akkerlaag op locatie 2 zijn alle vondsten aangetroffen in en nabij de geul. Het aardewerk dateert uit de ijzertijd, vermoedelijk de midden ijzertijd. De aangetroffen sporen en vondsten geven aan dat het plangebied in zowel de ijzertijd als de nieuw(st)e tijd in gebruik is geweest. Op locatie 2 en met name 4 zijn een paalkuil, een oude akkerlaag, twee slootjes en een mogelijke oversteekplek in een geul aangetroffen die zowel op basis van het vondstmateriaal als op basis van de stratigrafie in de ijzertijd kunnen worden gedateerd, vermoedelijk in de midden ijzertijd. De oversteekplaats zou ouder kunnen zijn. Deze sporen sluiten aan bij de onderzoeksresultaten van Jans & Van Kruining (2014). De sporen en vondsten betreffen de meest noordelijke aanwijzingen voor ijzertijdbewoning op de Hondsrug, afgezien van het ijzertijdmateriaal dat destijds bij de Eikenlaan is aangetroffen (Kortekaas 1999). De Eikenlaan ligt nog iets noordelijker dan het huidige plangebied. De (sub)recente sloten maakten deel uit van de percelering van het plangebied alvorens de wijk Paddepoel werd gebouwd en zijn zichtbaar op de kaart van Huguenin (1819-1829), de kadastrale minuut van 1821-1832 en de Bonnebladen (1900-1916).

    Authors: Jezeer, W.;

    Op 26 maart 2014 heeft ADC ArcheoProjecten een archeologisch onderzoek uitgevoerd op het achtererf van de Benschopperstraat 14-16 te IJsselstein. Dit onderzoek betrof het begeleiden van bouwwerkzaamheden uit Montfoort, met als doel mogelijke archeologische resten, die tijdens het grondverzet tevoorschijn kwamen, te kunnen documenteren.Het onderzoek werd uitgevoerd conform het protocol Opgraven.Het onderzochte terrein betreft de steeg tussen Benschopperstraat nummer 16 en nummer 18 en het achtererf van de nummers 14 en 16. Ter plaatse zal een uitbreiding van de panden aan de Benschopperstraat 14-16 worden gerealiseerd, waarbij zowel de steeg als het achtererf volledig worden bebouwd. De bevoegde overheid, de gemeente IJsselstein, heeft gesteld dat dit alleen mag worden gerealiseerd als eventuele archeologische resten worden geborgen en gedocumenteerd door een erkend en daartoe gemachtigd archeologisch bedrijf. In totaal is ca. 400 m² onderzocht.Het onderzoek heeft weinig archeologische sporen en geen vondsten opgeleverd. Het enige dat kon worden vastgelegd is een deel van een water- of beerput (spoor 3) en een recente poer (spoor 1 en 2). Beiden zijn aangetroffen in de verdiepte funderingssleuf aan de Benschopperstraat.De overige terreindelen zijn slechts beperkt verdiept, waarbij vrijwel uitsluitend recente ophoging is waargenomen, alsmede recente verstoringen die samenhingen met de aanleg van de hierboven genoemde kabels, leidingen en kolken. Er waren geen aanwijzingen voor de aanwezigheid van gebouwen of putten op het achtererf. Hierbij moet wel rekening worden gehouden met het feit dat eventuele archeologische resten op een dieper niveau nog wel aanwezig kunnen zijn.

    Authors: ADC ArcheoProjecten; Huisman, N.;

    Binnen het plangebied ‘De Molenpol’ te Lunteren heeft ADC ArcheoProjecten in 2009 en 2010 drie archeologische begeleidingen conform protocol IVO-p uitgevoerd. De eerste begeleiding betrof de locatie Molenparkweg 39 (zie afb. 2). Hier is gekeken in een bouwput waar een fundering werd verwijderd, om mogelijke archeologische resten, die tijdens het grondverzet tevoorschijn kwamen, te kunnen documenteren. De tweede begeleiding betrof het verslepen van een eikenboom, waarvoor een sleuf werd gegraven die mogelijk archeologische resten zou bevatten. De laatste begeleiding betrof het graven van proefsleuven in het toekomstige wegtracé op de Molenpol.Tijdens alle drie de begeleidingen bleek de bodemopbouw dermate verstoord te zijn dat er geen archeologisch niveau meer aanwezig was. Tevens zijn archeologische sporen en vondsten op geen van de locaties aangetroffen. Op basis van de resultaten van de begeleidingen en het voorgaande booronderzoek is dan ook besloten het onderzoek voortijdig af te breken en het plangebied vrij te geven, op de locatie van molen na. Hier vinden volgens het huidige bestemmingsplan echter geen werkzaamheden plaats, dus hoeft er voorlopig geen archeologisch onderzoek plaats te vinden. Date Submitted: 2010-12-09

    Authors: Habekost, Maike; Lange, Markus; Gleixner, Gerd;

    Authors: M.J.M. de Wit;

    Aanleiding tot de hier beschreven archeologische begeleiding (protocol opgraven) betreft de aanleg van een nieuw riool ten behoeve van nieuwbouwplan Bessemoerpark in de wijk Paddepoel te Groningen.Omdat deze plannen met bodemverstorende ingrepen gepaard gaan, is een archeologisch onderzoek noodzakelijk. Eerder onderzoek in de directe omgeving heeft aangegeven dat zich binnen het plangebied een uitloper van de Hondsrug bevindt en dat hier archeologische waarden kunnen worden verwacht. Broekema Bouw heeft MUG Ingenieursbureau, afdeling Archeologie, opdracht gegeven een archeologische begeleiding uit te voeren. De begeleiding heeft plaatsgevonden in de periode tussen 12 september en 4 oktober 2013 en betreft vier locaties. Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd conform de eisen van de Kwaliteitsnorm Nederlandse Archeologie (KNA), versie 3.2, en de richtlijnen uit het Programma van Eisen (Timmerman & De Wit 2013). De bodemopbouw binnen het onderzoeksgebied bestaat globaal gezien uit klei op dekzand. Onder hethuidige maaiveld/de huidige bouwvoor bevindt zich op de meeste plaatsen een recent opgebrachte laag met veel puin. Deze laag kan worden gerelateerd aan het bouwrijp maken en egaliseren van het gebied voorafgaand aan de bouw van de wijk Paddepoel in de jaren ’60 van de vorige eeuw. Onder deze opgebrachte laag is in een aantal gevallen een kleilaag aanwezig die als de voormalige bouwvoor geïnterpreteerd kan worden. Hieronder volgen natuurlijke kleiafzettingen met daaronder het dekzand, op grotere diepte overgaand in keileem. Op locatie 2 bevindt zich tussen de kleilagen een oude akkerlaag. Ook wordt hier een laag lichtbruin/lichtgrijs kleiig zand aangetroffen, met zeer veel roestvlekken, die kan worden geïnterpreteerd als een oeverwalafzetting. Op locatie 4 zijn in alle gedocumenteerde profielen geulvullingen aangetroffen, afgewisseld met lagen klei. De geulvullingen bevinden zich direct onder de recente ophooglaag.De tijdens de archeologische begeleiding aangetroffen sporen bestaan hoofdzakelijk uit sloten (acht stuks) en greppels (drie stuks). Daarnaast is een klein aantal (paal)kuilen aangetroffen, vier stuks in totaal. De sporen zijn op verschillende niveaus aangetroffen. De meeste (paal)kuilen zijn in de kleilaag boven de top van het dekzand aangetroffen en niet op hogere niveaus. De meeste sloten en greppels daarentegen snijden zich voornamelijk wel van hoger gelegen niveaus in in het dekzand en hebben een subrecente ofnieuwetijdse datering. De twee slootjes die in werkput 4 (sporen 3 en 4) zijn aangetroffen, zijn de enige sloten waaraan een oudere datering kan worden gegeven. Beide slootjes zijn afgedekt door hetzelfde roestige kleipakket dat de geul afdekt en dateren vermoedelijk uit de ijzertijd.Bijzonder is de vondst van een laag aangebrachte takken en twijgen onderin de geulvulling in werkput 4. De takken en twijgen liggen in de geul en lijken op een soort mat, wellicht hier geplaatst om een oversteekplek te creëren. Bij deze laag is eveneens een houten paal (spoor 2) gevonden die blijkt aangepunt te zijn. Tijdens het onderzoek is een zeer kleine hoeveelheid vondstmateriaal aangetroffen, bestaande uit aardewerk en hout. Afgezien van een aardewerkscherf uit de oude akkerlaag op locatie 2 zijn alle vondsten aangetroffen in en nabij de geul. Het aardewerk dateert uit de ijzertijd, vermoedelijk de midden ijzertijd. De aangetroffen sporen en vondsten geven aan dat het plangebied in zowel de ijzertijd als de nieuw(st)e tijd in gebruik is geweest. Op locatie 2 en met name 4 zijn een paalkuil, een oude akkerlaag, twee slootjes en een mogelijke oversteekplek in een geul aangetroffen die zowel op basis van het vondstmateriaal als op basis van de stratigrafie in de ijzertijd kunnen worden gedateerd, vermoedelijk in de midden ijzertijd. De oversteekplaats zou ouder kunnen zijn. Deze sporen sluiten aan bij de onderzoeksresultaten van Jans & Van Kruining (2014). De sporen en vondsten betreffen de meest noordelijke aanwijzingen voor ijzertijdbewoning op de Hondsrug, afgezien van het ijzertijdmateriaal dat destijds bij de Eikenlaan is aangetroffen (Kortekaas 1999). De Eikenlaan ligt nog iets noordelijker dan het huidige plangebied. De (sub)recente sloten maakten deel uit van de percelering van het plangebied alvorens de wijk Paddepoel werd gebouwd en zijn zichtbaar op de kaart van Huguenin (1819-1829), de kadastrale minuut van 1821-1832 en de Bonnebladen (1900-1916).
