    Alex Broadhead;

    In 2009, Damian Walford Davies called for a counterfactual turn in Romantic studies, a move reflective of a wider growth of critical interest in the relationship between Romanticism and counterfactual historiography. In contrast to these more recent developments, the lives of the Romantics have provided a consistent source of speculation for authors of popular alternate history since the nineteenth century. Yet the aims of alternate history as a genre differ markedly from those of its more scholarly cousin, counterfactual historiography. How, then, might such works fit in to the proposed counterfactual turn? This article makes a case for the critical as well as the creative value of alternate histories featuring the Romantics. By exploring how these narratives differ from works of counterfactual historiography, it seeks to explain why the Romantics continue to inspire authors of alternate history and to illuminate the forking paths that Davies's counterfactual turn might take.

    Mojca Krevel;

    “[W]hat if they gave an apocalypse and nobody noticed?” was the question that Brooks Landon (1991, 239) proposed as the central thematic concern of the 1980s cyberpunk – a movement which today represents a landmark in the development of the science fiction genre. Diverse as they are in their focus and scope, the contributions to this issue of ELOPE, dedicated to the position and role of speculative fiction, and especially science fiction, in a world which is increasingly becoming speculative and science fictional, invariably demonstrate that an apocalypse did indeed take place and went by largely unnoticed.

    Augustine Yongwhi Kim; Jin Gwan Ha; Hoduk Choi; Hyeonjoon Moon;

    The purpose of this paper is to evaluate food taste, smell, and characteristics from consumers’ online reviews. Several studies in food sensory evaluation have been presented for consumer acceptance. However, these studies need taste descriptive word lexicon, and they are not suitable for analyzing large number of evaluators to predict consumer acceptance. In this paper, an automated text analysis method for food evaluation is presented to analyze and compare recently introduced two jjampong ramen types (mixed seafood noodles). To avoid building a sensory word lexicon, consumers’ reviews are collected from SNS. Then, by training word embedding model with acquired reviews, words in the large amount of review text are converted into vectors. Based on these words represented as vectors, inference is performed to evaluate taste and smell of two jjampong ramen types. Finally, the reliability and merits of the proposed food evaluation method are confirmed by a comparison with the results from an actual consumer preference taste evaluation.

    Abstract The work is devoted to research of vulcanization characteristics of mixtures and revealing of features of change of technological, dynamic and physical-mechanical properties of elastomers on the basis of isoprene rubber filled with carbon black N330 and boron nitride (BN). It has been established that with a gradual increase in the concentration of the inert filler BN a decrease in the curing rate by 33% and the density of the polymer cross-linking by 26% is observed, as well as an increase in the curing start time by almost 300% and the optimal curing time by 200%. At the same time, there is a 26% decrease in the "Payne effect", a 50% increase in the relative elongation at rupture and a 30% decrease in the tensile strength.

    Geleneksel kültür izleri toplumların kimliklerini betimlemede önemli rol oynar. Geleneksel Kültürler, toplumların öz değerleridir. Toplumların yaşama biçimi, örf ve adetleri, kılık kıyafetleri, günlük kullanım eşyalarındaki süsleme unsurları bu öz değerleri betimler. Geleneksel kökenli süsleme tarzlarının üslup ve özelliklerinin geleceğe yansımasının en temel güncel göstergesi, hediyelik eşyalardaki bulunurluklarıdır. Yerli ve yabancı turistlerin hediyelik eşyalara ilgisi aslında yöreye özgü geleneksel temada birleşir.Bu çalışmada geleneksel kökenli hediyelik eşyaların kültür yolculuğuna değinilmiştir. Antalya – Kaleiçi'nde, hediyelik eşya sektörünün ürün tedariği, sektörün sorunları, Turizm'deki rolü ele alınmıştır. Antalya-Kaleiçi kompleksinde dükkânlarda satılan geleneksel kökenli hediyelik eşyalarda yozlaşmanın (Kitschleşme) güncel oran ve durumuna yer verilmiştir. Geleneksel üslup ve yozlaşmış ürünlerin dükkân içi ve dışı sergilenme şekli, satıcıların ürünleri satış stratejileri incelenmiştir. Traces of traditional culture play a vital role in describing the identities of societies. Traditional cultures are the core values of societies. The way societies live; customs and traditions, costumes, elements of ornamentation in daily use goods describe these core values. The most basic current indicator of the reflection of the style and characteristics of traditional ornamental styles is their presence in souvenirs. The interest of domestic and foreign tourists in souvenirs is actually combined with the traditional theme of the region.In this study, the cultural journey of traditional souvenirs has been mentioned. In Antalya -Kaleiçi, the product supply of the souvenir sector, the problems of the sector and its role in tourism were discussed. The current rate and degeneration of corruption (kitschization) in traditional souvenirs, which are sold in the shops in Antalya-Kaleiçi complex, are given. Traditional style and degenerated products display in and out of shops, sellers' product sales strategies were examined. 178

    Graffiti plays a leading role in the contemporary city. It shows the variety of social dynamics that lie beneath the urban fabric. This article briefly discusses graffiti’s interrelationship with cultural heritage, considering the different relations that it makes in terms of the visual communication it establishes with the city. “Armazém Vieira’s” intervention with graffiti in Florianópolis is presented for the purpose of analysing the tension bet- ween the past and the present in terms of the re-attribution of meaning and the appropriation of places. The role of cultural heritage material is examined as an indisputable reference of a place, of its people, and its culture.

    Статья посвящена публикации свинцовой композиции, которая была случайно найдена в Ольвии в 80-х годах XX в. и ныне находится в одной частной коллекции. Подобные свинцовые фигурки, которые не без основания считаются вотивами, весьма характерны для Ольвии и её округи. Однако сюжет, представленный на рассматриваемой композиции — крылатая женщина на колеснице — среди ольвийских свинцовых изделий не зафиксирован. В то же время аналогичный сюжет фигурирует на предметах погребального инвентаря боспорян. Близкие аналогии автор находит и среди вещей и сюжетов заупокойного культа фракийцев. Поэтому он предполагает, что в образе крылатой женщины на публикуемом вотиве ольвиополиты видели не богиню победы Нику, но некоего хтонического демона (или хтоническую богиню). Наиболее близкие боспорские и фракийские аналогии говорят о том, что вотив был отлит в конце IV или в III в. до н.э. The article is devoted to the publication of a lead composition, which was accidentally found in Olbia in the 80s of the 20th century CE and is now in a private collection. Similar lead figurines, which are not without reason considered votives, are very characteristic of Olbia and its environs. However, the plot presented in the composition under consideration — a winged woman on a chariot — was not recorded among the Olbian lead items. At the same time, a similar plot appears on the items of the Bosporan funerary inventory. The author finds close analogies among the things and plots of the funeral cult of the Thracians. Therefore, he suggests that in the image of the winged woman on the published votive, the Olbiopolites saw not the goddess of victory, Nike, but some kind of chthonic demon (or chthonic goddess). The closest Bosporan and Thracian analogies indicate that the votive was cast at the end of the 4th or in the 3rd century BCE.

    Philippe Minard La discussion, lors de la première séance, a plutôt porté sur la circulation de l’argent. Nous avons ensuite envisagé la mobilisation de l’argent. En gardant ces deux axes à l’esprit, nous pourrions revenir au rôle tenu, dans la réflexion historique, par les deux modèles évoqués en ouverture : celui de Chayanov, et celui, mieux connu des historiens français, d’Ernest Labrousse. De quelle manière ces modèles ont-ils été utilisés, et dans quelles limites sont-ils utiles ? ...

    Insufficient or even unavailable training data of emerging classes is a big challenge of many classification tasks, including text classification. Recognising text documents of classes that have never been seen in the learning stage, so-called zero-shot text classification, is therefore difficult and only limited previous works tackled this problem. In this paper, we propose a two-phase framework together with data augmentation and feature augmentation to solve this problem. Four kinds of semantic knowledge (word embeddings, class descriptions, class hierarchy, and a general knowledge graph) are incorporated into the proposed framework to deal with instances of unseen classes effectively. Experimental results show that each and the combination of the two phases achieve the best overall accuracy compared with baselines and recent approaches in classifying real-world texts under the zero-shot scenario. By exploring how these narratives differ from works of counterfactual historiography, it seeks to explain why the Romantics continue to inspire authors of alternate history and to illuminate the forking paths that Davies's counterfactual turn might take.

    Mojca Krevel;

    Augustine Yongwhi Kim; Jin Gwan Ha; Hoduk Choi; Hyeonjoon Moon;

    Kunat, Osman;

    Natalia Pérez Torres;
