New software paradigm for linguistic/phonetic tools: webservices.Webservices as building blocks for complex systems.BAS CLARIN webservices: a free service to the scientific community.Multilingual automatic segmentation and labelling of speech into words and phones.Multilingual automatic text-to-phoneme conversion webservice. A new software paradigm `Software as a Service' based on web services is proposed for multilingual linguistic tools and exemplified with the BAS CLARIN web services. Instead of traditional tool development and distribution the tool functionality is implemented on a highly available server that users or applications access via HTTP requests. As examples we describe in detail five multilingual web services for speech science operational since 2012 and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the new paradigm as well as our experiences with user acceptance and implementation problems. The services include automatic segmentation of speech, grapheme-to-phoneme conversion, syllabification, speech synthesis, and optimal symbol sequence alignment.

Az Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem Könyvtártudomány doktori (PhD) programja két évtizede egyetlen önálló tudósműhelyként biztosítja Magyarországon szakmánk képviselői számára a fokozatszerzés lehetőségét. A történeti előzmények elemzését, valamint a strukturális keretek és a fókuszterületek áttekintését követően felvázoljuk a könyvtár- és információtudományi kompetenciafejlesztést végző, nemzetközi beágyazottságú program innovatív kutatási és disszertációs eredményeit.

Facing multifunctional expectations and operating in market economies, members of thelibrary network cannot fulfil their mission without sufficiently prepared, multi-skilledlibrarians; furthermore, educational establishments cannot function in isolation from librarianship. This paper analyses the most recent decisive factors of the librarian profession which have an effect on the higher education of librarians as well, and clarifies international and domestic trends related to university libraries. Reacting to the requirements of our knowledge-based economy, its financial environment and university libraries, andfocusing on the librarian training programme of Eotvos Lorand University in particular,the paper also evaluates how post-secondary education responded to multidisciplinarycompetence development. It especially highlights the efforts aimed at enhancing the synergic relationship between theory and practice, and the results of research in the field oflibrary and information science which support innovation. The study, enumerating andresponding to some of the false perceptions related to the training programme, revealsthe reasons behind labour shortage (career changes) among librarians, which affects university libraries as well, and identifies areas in need of urgent intervention and cooperation, the backgrounds of which – financial and otherwise (potentially also arising from alack of information) – are also described.
