    Christof Schöch;

    Licence Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC-BY); The digital age, by making large amounts of text available to us, prompts us to develop new and additional reading strategies supported by the use of computers and enabling us to deal with such amounts of text. One such "distant reading" strategy is stylometry, a method of quantitative text analysis which relies on the frequencies of certain linguistic features such as words, letters or grammatical units to statistically assess the relative similarity of texts to each other and to classify texts on this basis. This method is applied here to French drama of the seventeenth century, more precisely to the now famous "Corneille / Molière- controversy". In this controversy, some researchers claim that Pierre Corneille wrote several of the plays traditionally attributed to Molière. The methodological challenge, it is shown here, lies in the fact that categories such as authorship, genre (comedy vs. tragedy) and literary form (prose vs. verse) all have an influence on stylometric distance measures and classification. Cross-genre and cross-form authorship attribution needs to distinguish such competing signals if it is to produce reliable attribution results. This contribution describes two attempts to accomplish this, parameter optimization and feature-range selection. The contribution concludes with some more general remarks about the use of quantitative methods in a hermeneutic discipline such as literary studies.

    Sahle, Patrick;

    Der Beitrag beschreibt die mögliche Übertragung des im Jahr 2008 noch in den Anfängen steckenden neuen Forschungs-Infrastrukturparadigmas der "e-Science" auf die Geschichtswissenschaften. Er gibt erste Hinweise auf Literatur und Projekte und skizziert fachspezifische Ansatzpunkte und Entwicklungsperspektiven. Der Beitrag ist erschienen in: Von Nowgorod nach London. Studien zu Handel, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft im mittelalterlichen Europa. Festschrift für Stuart Jenks zum 60. Geburtstag. Göttingen, Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht unipress, September 2008. ISBN 978-3-89971-446-3. S. 63-74.     Kindling, Maxi;

    Der Beitrag behandelt das Thema Qualitätssicherung im Umgang mit digitalen Forschungsdaten. Es werden drei Ebenen herausgearbeitet, auf die sich die Qualitätssicherung beziehen kann: die der Forschungsdaten selbst, der Metadaten zur ihrer Erschließung sowie der Forschungs- daten-Infrastrukturen. Es erfolgt eine Annäherung an den Qualitätsbegriff im Kontext digitaler Forschungsdaten sowie an die qualitätssichernden Verfahren. Exemplarische nationale und internationale Initiativen werden vorgestellt, die Empfehlungen und Kriterien zu disziplinübergreifenden Aspekten der Qualitätssicherung formulieren. Zudem wird ein disziplinäres Beispiel aus der historischen Korpuslinguistik vorgestellt. Peer Reviewed

    Die europäische Umfrage zu wissenschaftlichen Praktiken und digitalen Bedürfnissen in den Geisteswissenschaften ist das Produkt eines kollaborativen Unterfangens europäischer Forschender, die mit der DiMPOArbeitsgruppe zusammenarbeiten. Sie wurde als überregionale Längsschnittstudie konzipiert, die in einem europäischen Rahmen nach einigen Jahren jeweils wiederholt werden soll. Ziel der Studie ist es, einen evidenzbasierten Ausblick über wissenschaftliche Praktiken sowie die Bedürfnisse und Einstellungen europäischer DH-Forschender zu digitalen Ressourcen, Methoden und Werkzeuge zu geben. Die Ergebnisse der ersten Studie (März 2015 abgeschlossen) werden in einem von mehreren Autoren und Autorinnen verfassten Bericht zusammengetragen, der vergleichende und konsolidierte Analysen sowie sechs Länderprofile enthält. Eine neue Erhebung ist für 2017/18 geplant. Weitere Informationen: bit.ly/scholarlypractices Deutsche Übersetzung: Beat Immenhauser (Schweizerische Akademie der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften) ---------------- The highlights of the European survey on scholarly practices and digital needs in the arts and humanities carried out by DARIAH Digital Methods and Practices Observatory WG (DiMPO). This research is the outcome of collaborative work of European researchers from different countries, working within the DiMPO Working Group. It has been designed as a multiregional longitudinal survey, to be conducted online across European countries and to be repeated every few years. Its aim is to provide an evidence-based outlook of scholarly practices, needs and attitudes of European humanities researchers towards digital resources, methods and tools across space and time. Results of the first run of the survey (completed in March 2015) are presented in a multi-authored report, which includes comparative and consolidated analyses, as well as five country profiles. A new run is planned for 2017-18. For more information, see bit.ly/scholarlypractices. German translation: Beat Immenhauser (Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences)

    Colette R. Brunschwig;

    German Abstract: Die Bedeutung der visuellen, audiovisuellen und der multisensorischen Medien wachst. Bei letzteren handelt es sich um hybride Medien, welche nicht nur den Seh- und Horsinn ansprechen, sondern auch andere Sinne, wie etwa den Geruchssinn, Tast- und Bewegungssinn. In Anbetracht dieser medialen Entwicklung erforschen sowohl die digital humanities als auch, was man im Sinne einer Arbeitshypothese, eine digitale Rechtswissenschaft nennen konnte, die Visualisierung, Audiovisualisierung und Multisensorisierung. Bisher sind die zwei Gebiete weitgehend getrennte Wege gegangen, ohne einander gegenseitig zu beeinflussen. Und dies, obwohl jene sich, was die Visualisierung, Audiovisualisierung und Multisensorisierung betrifft, teilweise mit ahnlichen Problemen und Fragen auseinandersetzen. Der vorliegende Aufsatz bezweckt, und dies soll sein innovativer Beitrag sein, die beiden fachlichen Bereiche in Bezug auf die genannten Forschungsgegenstande einander anzunahern. Uberdies soll damit zu einem interdisziplinaren Erkenntnisgewinn beigetragen werden. Dies geschieht einerseits anhand von Uberlegungen, welche durch die Hundertjahrfeier-Tagung der Zentralbibliothek Zurich (Schweiz) veranlasst worden sind. Andererseits geht dieser Aufsatz weit uber die Themen dieser Tagung hinaus. English Abstract: Visual, audiovisual, and multisensory media are gaining increasing importance. The latter are hybrid media that appeal not only to sight and hearing, but also to other senses (e.g., smell, touch, and motion). Considering this media development, both the digital humanities and what might (as a working hypothesis) be called digital law explore visualization, audiovisualization, and multisensorization. These fields have so far largely gone separate ways, without influencing each other, although both face similar problems and questions in investigating visualization, audiovisualization, and multisensorization. This paper makes an innovative contribution to understanding these phenomena by bringing the digital humanities and digital law closer together. It also advances interdisciplinary understanding by considering the reflections voiced at the 2017 Centenary Conference of Zurich University Library and by going far beyond the topics of that conference.

    Baillot, Anne;

    International audience; Die These, die hier vertreten wird, verortet die Bekehrungsmanöver in einer diametral entgegengesetzten Glaubensgemeinschaft: Eine Religion der Big Data gibt es wohl, und eines ihrer Evangelien nennt sich Netzwerkvisualisierung. Ohne Netzwerk geht nichts, alles ist Netzwerk. Sicherlich machen es zum einen die Datenflut und zum anderen die Verknüpfungen zwischen ebendiesen Daten nötig, sich Orientierung zu verschaffen. Im Zuge dessen wurde der Ideen- und Literaturgeschichte der Rekurs auf Netzwerkanalyse aufgebürdet. Das Kreuz, das es zu schleppen gilt, ist eben das Netzwerk. Aber liefern Netzwerke und ihre Visualisierungen wirklich die Orientierung, die die Geisteswissenschaften brauchen? Wozu sind Netzwerke für die Literaturwissenschaft gut? Was erlauben sie uns zu machen, was wir anders nicht bewerkstelligen könnten?Ansätze zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen werden in drei Schritten vorgestellt. Zunächst werde ich basal mit der Frage „Was ist ein Netzwerk?“ beginnen. Dabei geht es mir darum zu umreißen, was ein „gutes“ Netzwerk ausmacht, d.h. ein Netzwerk, aus dem man aus literaturwissenschaftlicher Sicht sinnvolle Informationen gewinnen kann. Im zweiten Teil stelle ich digitale Briefeditionen vor (im Speziellen meine eigene) und was diese an Anknüpfungspunkten für Netzmodelle bieten. In einem dritten Teil gehe ich schließlich auf die Einbettung von Netzmodellen in die konkrete Textarbeit ein.

    Christof Schöch;

    Der Beitrag beschreibt die mögliche Übertragung des im Jahr 2008 noch in den Anfängen steckenden neuen Forschungs-Infrastrukturparadigmas der "e-Science" auf die Geschichtswissenschaften. Er gibt erste Hinweise auf Literatur und Projekte und skizziert fachspezifische Ansatzpunkte und Entwicklungsperspektiven. Der Beitrag ist erschienen in: Von Nowgorod nach London. Studien zu Handel, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft im mittelalterlichen Europa. Festschrift für Stuart Jenks zum 60. Geburtstag. Göttingen, Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht unipress, September 2008. ISBN 978-3-89971-446-3. S. 63-74.     Kindling, Maxi;

    Der Beitrag behandelt das Thema Qualitätssicherung im Umgang mit digitalen Forschungsdaten. Es werden drei Ebenen herausgearbeitet, auf die sich die Qualitätssicherung beziehen kann: die der Forschungsdaten selbst, der Metadaten zur ihrer Erschließung sowie der Forschungs- daten-Infrastrukturen. Es erfolgt eine Annäherung an den Qualitätsbegriff im Kontext digitaler Forschungsdaten sowie an die qualitätssichernden Verfahren. Exemplarische nationale und internationale Initiativen werden vorgestellt, die Empfehlungen und Kriterien zu disziplinübergreifenden Aspekten der Qualitätssicherung formulieren. Zudem wird ein disziplinäres Beispiel aus der historischen Korpuslinguistik vorgestellt. Peer Reviewed

    Die europäische Umfrage zu wissenschaftlichen Praktiken und digitalen Bedürfnissen in den Geisteswissenschaften ist das Produkt eines kollaborativen Unterfangens europäischer Forschender, die mit der DiMPOArbeitsgruppe zusammenarbeiten. Sie wurde als überregionale Längsschnittstudie konzipiert, die in einem europäischen Rahmen nach einigen Jahren jeweils wiederholt werden soll. Ziel der Studie ist es, einen evidenzbasierten Ausblick über wissenschaftliche Praktiken sowie die Bedürfnisse und Einstellungen europäischer DH-Forschender zu digitalen Ressourcen, Methoden und Werkzeuge zu geben. Die Ergebnisse der ersten Studie (März 2015 abgeschlossen) werden in einem von mehreren Autoren und Autorinnen verfassten Bericht zusammengetragen, der vergleichende und konsolidierte Analysen sowie sechs Länderprofile enthält. Eine neue Erhebung ist für 2017/18 geplant. Weitere Informationen: bit.ly/scholarlypractices Deutsche Übersetzung: Beat Immenhauser (Schweizerische Akademie der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften) ---------------- The highlights of the European survey on scholarly practices and digital needs in the arts and humanities carried out by DARIAH Digital Methods and Practices Observatory WG (DiMPO). This research is the outcome of collaborative work of European researchers from different countries, working within the DiMPO Working Group. It has been designed as a multiregional longitudinal survey, to be conducted online across European countries and to be repeated every few years. Its aim is to provide an evidence-based outlook of scholarly practices, needs and attitudes of European humanities researchers towards digital resources, methods and tools across space and time. Results of the first run of the survey (completed in March 2015) are presented in a multi-authored report, which includes comparative and consolidated analyses, as well as five country profiles. A new run is planned for 2017-18. For more information, see bit.ly/scholarlypractices. German translation: Beat Immenhauser (Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences)

    Colette R. Brunschwig;

    German Abstract: Die Bedeutung der visuellen, audiovisuellen und der multisensorischen Medien wachst. Bei letzteren handelt es sich um hybride Medien, welche nicht nur den Seh- und Horsinn ansprechen, sondern auch andere Sinne, wie etwa den Geruchssinn, Tast- und Bewegungssinn. In Anbetracht dieser medialen Entwicklung erforschen sowohl die digital humanities als auch, was man im Sinne einer Arbeitshypothese, eine digitale Rechtswissenschaft nennen konnte, die Visualisierung, Audiovisualisierung und Multisensorisierung. Bisher sind die zwei Gebiete weitgehend getrennte Wege gegangen, ohne einander gegenseitig zu beeinflussen. Und dies, obwohl jene sich, was die Visualisierung, Audiovisualisierung und Multisensorisierung betrifft, teilweise mit ahnlichen Problemen und Fragen auseinandersetzen. Der vorliegende Aufsatz bezweckt, und dies soll sein innovativer Beitrag sein, die beiden fachlichen Bereiche in Bezug auf die genannten Forschungsgegenstande einander anzunahern. Uberdies soll damit zu einem interdisziplinaren Erkenntnisgewinn beigetragen werden. Dies geschieht einerseits anhand von Uberlegungen, welche durch die Hundertjahrfeier-Tagung der Zentralbibliothek Zurich (Schweiz) veranlasst worden sind. Andererseits geht dieser Aufsatz weit uber die Themen dieser Tagung hinaus. English Abstract: Visual, audiovisual, and multisensory media are gaining increasing importance. The latter are hybrid media that appeal not only to sight and hearing, but also to other senses (e.g., smell, touch, and motion). Considering this media development, both the digital humanities and what might (as a working hypothesis) be called digital law explore visualization, audiovisualization, and multisensorization. These fields have so far largely gone separate ways, without influencing each other, although both face similar problems and questions in investigating visualization, audiovisualization, and multisensorization. This paper makes an innovative contribution to understanding these phenomena by bringing the digital humanities and digital law closer together. It also advances interdisciplinary understanding by considering the reflections voiced at the 2017 Centenary Conference of Zurich University Library and by going far beyond the topics of that conference.

    Baillot, Anne;

    International audience; Die These, die hier vertreten wird, verortet die Bekehrungsmanöver in einer diametral entgegengesetzten Glaubensgemeinschaft: Eine Religion der Big Data gibt es wohl, und eines ihrer Evangelien nennt sich Netzwerkvisualisierung. Ohne Netzwerk geht nichts, alles ist Netzwerk. Sicherlich machen es zum einen die Datenflut und zum anderen die Verknüpfungen zwischen ebendiesen Daten nötig, sich Orientierung zu verschaffen. Im Zuge dessen wurde der Ideen- und Literaturgeschichte der Rekurs auf Netzwerkanalyse aufgebürdet. Das Kreuz, das es zu schleppen gilt, ist eben das Netzwerk. Aber liefern Netzwerke und ihre Visualisierungen wirklich die Orientierung, die die Geisteswissenschaften brauchen? Wozu sind Netzwerke für die Literaturwissenschaft gut? Was erlauben sie uns zu machen, was wir anders nicht bewerkstelligen könnten?Ansätze zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen werden in drei Schritten vorgestellt. Zunächst werde ich basal mit der Frage „Was ist ein Netzwerk?“ beginnen. Dabei geht es mir darum zu umreißen, was ein „gutes“ Netzwerk ausmacht, d.h. ein Netzwerk, aus dem man aus literaturwissenschaftlicher Sicht sinnvolle Informationen gewinnen kann. Im zweiten Teil stelle ich digitale Briefeditionen vor (im Speziellen meine eigene) und was diese an Anknüpfungspunkten für Netzmodelle bieten. In einem dritten Teil gehe ich schließlich auf die Einbettung von Netzmodellen in die konkrete Textarbeit ein.
