    Authors: Zorn, Anja;

    V železni dobi in antiki sta bila Sredozemsko in Črno morje pomembna za transport in trgovino. Ljudje so trgovali z žitom, oljem, vinom, kovinami, lesom in drugimi surovinami. Da so lahko prenesli dobrine čez morje v Atene, Rim in druga pomembna mesta, so potrebovali dobro izdelane ladje, ki so omogočale čim varnejšo plovbo. Včasih se je zgodilo, da je zaradi napačno zasnovane ladijske konstrukcije, naravnih vzrokov ali namernega uničenja prišlo do brodoloma. V Sredozemskem in Črnem morju je mogoče najti številne ladijske razbitine iz različnih obdobij, ki nam pomagajo razumeti antična transport in trgovino po morju. V diplomskem delu obravnavamo deset najdišč v globinah večjih od 90 m, ki se nahajajo v današnjih ozemeljskih vodah Izraela, Italije, Malte, Francije in Turčije. Prav tako pa obravnavamo tudi dve najdišči iz ozemeljskih voda Španije in Italije na globini večji od 20 m, kjer so našli ingote. In the Iron Age and in antiquity, the Mediterranean and Black Seas were important for transport and trade. People traded in grain, oil, wine, metals, timber and other raw materials. To carry goods across the sea to Athens, Rome and other important cities, they needed well-made ships that could navigate as safely as possible. Sometimes shipwrecks occurred due to faulty ship design, natural causes or deliberate destruction. Many shipwrecks from different periods can be found in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, helping us to understand ancient transport and trade by sea. In this thesis, ten sites in depths of more than 90 m, located in the present territorial waters of Israel, Italy, Malta, France and Turkey, are discussed. We also discuss two sites from the territorial waters of Spain and Italy at depths greater than 20 m, where ingots were found.

    Authors: Ekvall, Sofia;

    This thesis aims to study the behavior of nursing and whether it’s been affected by the domestication of dogs. Pupps are raised through complex social dynamics demonstrated in both dogs and arctic foxes, this may have changed in dogs due to different treatment and ideologies surrounding dogs compared to the natural way of a canid. By analyzing carbon and nitrogen (δ13C & δ15N) through IRMS, the diet of historic dogs and arctic foxes represents nursing and weening in dogs, who for certain is influenced by humans, and foxes who are not. Modern day arctic foxes from Canada, Russia, Island and Sweden are compared to paleolithic arctic foxes from Sunghir, Russia. The result shows an adequate diet without much variation indicating no changes in the species cycle of behavior, therefore being a good representative to the dog’s wild counterpart. Modern day puppies with well-known nursing pattern and diet resulted in lower values of δ15N than both the arctic foxes and a medieval dog from Sigtuna. It showed a highly carnivores diet including marine elements which entails that nursing can be seen in single canine individuals, however more research is required surrounding tooth dentine, its formation and eruption in canines.

    Authors: Öhrn, Jonas;

    Den 21a december 2023 fattade regeringen beslutet att tillsätta en kommitté med uppdraget att utforma en svensk kulturkanon. Innehållet i denna svenska kulturkanon kommer att presenteras för Kulturdepartementet år 2025. Syftet med kulturkanonen är att göra svensk kultur mer tillgänglig för flera. Den planeras att fungera som ett verktyg för kunskapsförmedling, gemenskap och inkludering. Dessutom förväntas den bidra till att etablera gemensamma referensramar för det svenska samhället. Samtidigt som regeringen satsar på att utveckla en svensk kulturkanon, har det skett nedskärningar i kulturbudgeten. Faktum är att budgeten för kultur idag, år 2024, är lägre än den har varit på över 20 år. År 1974 introducerades en modern svensk kulturpolitik med tydligt definierade kulturpolitiska mål. Denna nya politik presenterades i kulturpropositionen efter en utredning av kulturrådet. Tillsammans med detta kom en fördelning av ansvar för kulturen mellan staten, regionerna och kommunerna. En betydande del av ansvaret lades på kommunerna, som fick i uppgift att förankra de kulturpolitiska målen på lokal nivå. De kulturpolitiska målen har uppdaterats, med mindre tillägg och variationer senast var 2009 med regeringens proposition 2009/10:3 ”Tid för kultur”. Idag har kommunerna fortsatt ett betydande ansvar när det kommer till fördelningen och uppföljningen av kulturbudgeten och dess mål. Kommunerna står för nästan lika mycket av kulturutgifterna som staten. Så har det varit under de senaste tio åren, förutom vissa undantag under pandemin då vissa statliga stöd har varit nödvändiga. Frågor kring kulturpolitik är mer aktuell än någonsin idag. Regeringen diskuterar vilken typ av kultur som ska prioriteras och vilka budgetanslag som ska beviljas samtidigt som kommunerna är fortsatt betydelsefulla aktörer inom kulturpolitiken. Men hur har det sett ut historiskt? Hur såg kommunerna beslut ut kring kultur innan statens kulturproposition år 1974?

    Authors: Petersén, Frida;

    Digitization is an increasingly important subject within the archival profession, especially as our society grows more and more dependent on digital assets. People generally expect everything to be available to them online no matter the time or place, otherwise the material might as well not exist. When it comes to preserving and making our cultural heritage available through digitization this poses an issue. Digitization takes time and requires resources, which forces the archives to decide which material to digitize, on what grounds and how to best make the digital material accessible. This essay explores the digitization of our cultural heritage through the lens of value theory. By examining what type of materials the archives prioritize for digitization, why, and how they utilize the digitized material we can observe the values and principles these approaches stem from. The study is conducted by using content analysis to examine documents such as annual reports, budget documentation and digitization strategies from two archival organizations during the time periods 2010–2015 and 2020–2024. The results show that the choices the archives make regarding what to digitize are based largely on preservation, demand and research requests. Both organizations also view digitization as a key element to working in alignment with democratic values. The approaches to this varied however as one organization focused more on streamlining their organization through digitization, while the other focused more on accessibility and spreading knowledge through their digitized materials.

    Authors: Kaur Vonna-Michell, Diana;

    This thesis examines contemporary artistic practices, gauging the role played by Conceptual art in shaping artist subjectivity and manifesting it in discourse. This process is understood as the relationship between three parameters: the social context of contemporary art, creativity specific to an artist's practice, and the relationship an artist has to themselves. The theoretical framework is tailored to analyse how artists produce subjectivities and how their practices generate specific forms of knowledge, or Ethopoetics. By tracing these parameters, this study interprets the situated singularity of the Finland-Swedish artist J.O. Mallander (b. 1944). Introducing the term the Artist-Subjectivation Process, a concept modified from Michel Foucault’s later thinking, the aim is to study the emergence of subjectivity in art discourse and art making. The expanded theoretical, methodological, and contextual framework is the result of this investigation and, therefore, also forms part of the study’s outcome, making this dissertation a twofold endeavour. The study traces artistic practices, strategies, and attitudes that constitute the Artist-Subjectivation Process through close reading of previously unresearched Swedish and Finnish archival sources. Shedding light on a period, an art phenomenon and an exchange that has not yet been sufficiently researched, it concludes that Mallander, through his creative practice, forged ways of being an artist through art networking, art enabling, spiritual art exploration, and the archiving of materials and memories. By systematising and challenging an artist-centred view of art, this thesis explores a new way to understand the creative process in an artist’s life and the fundamental questions of becoming an artist.

    Authors: Hörauf, Georg;

    The following study serves to develop consciousness about the smaller, not very well-known,emigration from the two southern Swedish cities of Växjö and Kalmar, which are situated inthe province of Småland, to Germany between 1865 and 1914. By using the digital archive ofEmiWeb, the gender, age and marital status of the emigrants have been analyzed and theyhave been categorized into three different social classes depending on the title or occupationthey had at the time of emigration. Furthermore, the results of the research of the two citieshave been compared with each other which resulted in a lot of similarities between the citieswhere the greatest part of the emigrants were between the ages of 20 and 29, unmarried, andpart of the working class. Overall, every age group was represented which also includedindividuals over the age of 50 and children between the ages of 0 and 9. Members of themiddle class and bourgeoisie were also present but to a lesser extent. Concerning the gender among the emigrants, the results of this study show that the proportion of women is greaterthan that of men, foremost in the first of the five periods in which this study is divided. Altogether this study provides a deeper insight and understanding of which people emigratedto Germany. However, the number of unregistered emigrants hinders the capacity to present areliable and comprehensive generalization about them.

    This thesis explores the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) to assist in the technical documentation process at Saab. With the increasing complexity and regulatory demands on such documentation, the objective is to investigate advanced natural language processing techniques as a means of streamlining the creation of technical documentation. Although many standards exist, this thesis particularly focuses on the standard ASD-STE100, Simplified Technical English abbrv. STE, a controlled language for technical documentation. STE's primary aim is to ensure that technical documents are understandable to individuals regardless of their native language or English proficiency. The study focuses on the implementation of Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) and Supervised Instruction Fine-Tuning (SIFT) to refine the capabilities of LLMs in producing clear and concise outputs that comply with STE. Through a series of experiments, we investigate the effectiveness of LLMs in interpreting and simplifying technical language, with a particular emphasis on adherence to STE standards. The study utilizes a dataset comprised of target data paired with synthetic source data generated by a LLM. We apply various model training strategies, including zero-shot performance, supervised instruction fine-tuning, and direct preference optimization. We evaluate the various models' output using established quantitative metrics for text simplification and substitute human evaluators with company internal software for evaluating adherence to company standards and STE. Our findings suggest that while LLMs can significantly contribute to the technical writing process, the choice of training methods and the quality of data play crucial roles in the model's performance. This study shows how LLMs can improve productivity and reduce manual work. It also looks at the problems and suggests ways to make technical documentation automation better in the future.

    Authors: de Lussanet de la Sablonière, Anouk;

    In December 1979, NATO adopted Dual Track. This resolution had two tracks: the modernisation of NATO’s Theatre Nuclear Forces and an offer to arms control negotiations with the Soviet Union. At the time, the Netherlands conditionally accepted Dual Track. Dutch opposition to nuclear modernisation was too great. The government postponed the decision for two years, linking it to the results of arms control negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union. In the end, the postponement would last for six years. The crisis that followed the Dual Track decision would become known as the Euromissile Crisis. The goal of this thesis is two-fold. On the one hand, the goal is to explore the reasoning behind this postponement. It will look into the domestic and international factors that influenced Dutch decision-making. The Dutch public did not want to deploy new missiles, whereas the NATO allies pressured the government to make a decision. This thesis has shown that domestic pressures were incredibly influential at the beginning of the crisis. That is why Dual Track was conditionally accepted. However, international factors, such as the need for solidarity within NATO, increased significantly over time. On the other hand, it researches how Dutch margins for manoeuvre were increased during the Euromissile Crisis. In line with New Cold War History, this thesis argues that the Netherlands was not just a small state that had to follow the path the bigger NATO states decided. There was the opportunity to push its own agenda.

    Authors: Hirsch, Rok;

    Throughout history, Vrhnika has stood as an important outpost at the intersection of major roads ever since Roman times. Until the construction of new transport links (Trieste–Vienna), the Ljubljanica river was one of the main transport routes for shipping goods. Consequently, a strong industry and transportation network flourished in the area. The town and the river played an important role in the operation of the Idrija mercury mine, serving as a storage hub for a substantial amount of grain. The Idrija warehouse, positioned between the once main roads (Ljubljanica and Tržaška cesta), was crucial for the mine in Idrija. Today, the existing building and its surroundings lie abandoned and receive minimal maintenance. This area presents an opportunity for the restoration of a building at the city’s entrance and the revitalisation of the riverside area. This task required an in-depth investigation into the time of construction and usage history of the building. I delved into the significance of the Ljubljanica river in the area and its historical utilisation. Although the building, now degraded, once held significant social and economic value, the need for such a facility no longer exists. The goal is to transform it into a cultural and historical centre through the principles of “adaptive reuse”. The existing structure is renewed and accompanied by the establishment of a new public program. The surroundings of the building are reconfigured into a new public space. By setting up a pavilion by the river, my goal is to create modern architecture intertwined with the existing cultural heritage and surrounding nature. This task aims to breathe new life into the riverside area, highlighting the significance of the Ljubljanica river in Vrhnika’s local history and contributing to the restoration of the existing cultural heritage, i.e. the Idrija warehouse. Vrhnika je bila skozi zgodovino pomembna postojanka na stičišču glavnih prometnic vse od rimljanskih časov naprej. Reka Ljubljanica je bila do izgradnje novih prometnih povezav (Trst–Dunaj) ena od glavnih prometnic za prevažanje in pretovarjanje dobrin, zato sta se v tem kraju razvila močna industrija in prevozništvo. Kraj in reka sta bila pomemben člen v delovanju idrijskega rudnika živega srebra, saj se je tam shranjevalo velike količine žita. Idrijsko skladišče, ki se nahaja med nekoč glavnima prometnicama (Ljubljanico in Tržaško cesto), je bilo ključnega pomena za rudnik v Idriji. Obstoječa stavba in okolica sta danes zapuščeni in samo nujno vzdrževani. Območje predstavlja priložnost za obnovitev stavbe ob vstopu v mesto in revitalizacijo obrečnega prostora. Magistrsko delo je zahtevalo poglobitev v čas gradnje in uporabe stavbe. Raziščem pomen reke Ljubljanice v kraju in zgodovino uporabe reke. Danes degradirana stavba je bila nekoč izjemno pomembna v družbenem in ekonomskem smislu. Danes takšen objekt ni več potreben, zato ga spremenim v kulturno-zgodovinski center po načelih prilagodljive ponovne uporabe (angl. adaptive reuse). Obstoječo stavbo se obnovi in vzpostavi se nov javni program. Uredi se tudi okolico stavbe, ki postane nov javni prostor. S postavitvijo paviljona ob reki želim ustvariti sodobno arhitekturo, ki se navezuje na obstoječo kulturno dediščino in okoliško naravo. Cilj naloge je obuditi obrečni prostor in izpostaviti pomen reke Ljubljanice v kontekstu lokalne zgodovine Vrhnike ter obnoviti obstoječo kulturno dediščino, tj. idrijsko skladišče.

    Authors: Lavrič, Jan;

    The thesis Stadium without an audience: from Plečnik's vision to its demise explores the meaning and role of cultural heritage, focusing on Plečnik's stadium in Ljubljana. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, the thesis first discusses the broader context of cultural heritage protection and examples of successful revitalisations of abandoned urban spaces. This is followed by a detailed analysis of the Plečnik Stadium, including its architectural features, history, symbolism and current state. In the practical part, the author uses experimental film as a research tool to study the stadium. The film depicts the current ambience and decay of the stadium through a visual narrative, while raising questions about the importance of its preservation and possible revitalisation. Diplomsko delo Stadion brez publike: od Plečnikove vizije do propada raziskuje pomen in vlogo kulturne dediščine, pri čemer se osredotoča na Plečnikov stadion v Ljubljani. Delo je razdeljeno na teoretični in praktični del. V teoretičnem delu naloga najprej obravnava širši kontekst varovanja kulturne dediščine ter primere uspešnih revitalizacij zapuščenih urbanih prostorov. Sledi podrobna analiza Plečnikovega stadiona, vključno z njegovimi arhitekturnimi značilnostmi, zgodovino, simboliko in trenutnim stanjem. V praktičnem delu avtor uporabi eksperimentalni film kot raziskovalno orodje za preučevanje stadiona. Film skozi vizualno pripoved prikazuje trenutni ambient in propadanje stadiona, obenem pa odpira vprašanja o pomenu njegovega ohranjanja in morebitne revitalizacije.

    Authors: Zorn, Anja;

    Authors: Ekvall, Sofia;

    Authors: Öhrn, Jonas;

    Den 21a december 2023 fattade regeringen beslutet att tillsätta en kommitté med uppdraget att utforma en svensk kulturkanon. Innehållet i denna svenska kulturkanon kommer att presenteras för Kulturdepartementet år 2025. Syftet med kulturkanonen är att göra svensk kultur mer tillgänglig för flera. Den planeras att fungera som ett verktyg för kunskapsförmedling, gemenskap och inkludering. Dessutom förväntas den bidra till att etablera gemensamma referensramar för det svenska samhället. Samtidigt som regeringen satsar på att utveckla en svensk kulturkanon, har det skett nedskärningar i kulturbudgeten. Faktum är att budgeten för kultur idag, år 2024, är lägre än den har varit på över 20 år. År 1974 introducerades en modern svensk kulturpolitik med tydligt definierade kulturpolitiska mål. Denna nya politik presenterades i kulturpropositionen efter en utredning av kulturrådet. Tillsammans med detta kom en fördelning av ansvar för kulturen mellan staten, regionerna och kommunerna. En betydande del av ansvaret lades på kommunerna, som fick i uppgift att förankra de kulturpolitiska målen på lokal nivå. De kulturpolitiska målen har uppdaterats, med mindre tillägg och variationer senast var 2009 med regeringens proposition 2009/10:3 ”Tid för kultur”. Idag har kommunerna fortsatt ett betydande ansvar när det kommer till fördelningen och uppföljningen av kulturbudgeten och dess mål. Kommunerna står för nästan lika mycket av kulturutgifterna som staten. Så har det varit under de senaste tio åren, förutom vissa undantag under pandemin då vissa statliga stöd har varit nödvändiga. Frågor kring kulturpolitik är mer aktuell än någonsin idag. Regeringen diskuterar vilken typ av kultur som ska prioriteras och vilka budgetanslag som ska beviljas samtidigt som kommunerna är fortsatt betydelsefulla aktörer inom kulturpolitiken. Men hur har det sett ut historiskt? Hur såg kommunerna beslut ut kring kultur innan statens kulturproposition år 1974?

    Authors: Petersén, Frida;
