This work has been supported by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement 813211 (POEMA); An ideal of polynomials is symmetric if it is closed under permutations of variables. We relate general symmetric ideals to the so called Specht ideals generated by all Specht polynomials of a given shape. We show a connection between the leading monomials of polynomials in the ideal and the Specht polynomials contained in the ideal. This provides applications in several contexts. Most notably, this connection gives information about the solutions of the corresponding set of equations. From another perspective, it restricts the isotypic decomposition of the ideal viewed as a representation of the symmetric group.

fairgraph is an experimental Python library for working with metadata in the HBP/EBRAINS Knowledge Graph, with a particular focus on data reuse, although it is also useful in metadata registration/curation. This is v0.5.1 of fairgraph.

On the occasion of International Archives Day, Dr Kathrin Meyer, Secretary General of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and Dr Karel Berkhoff, Co-Director of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) wrote a guest blog for the ARA (the Archives & Records Association) UK & Ireland, that seeks to raise awareness of the need for a broad approach to identifying Holocaust-related material – and offers practical tools that empower archivists and researchers to apply such an approach.

This work has been supported by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement 813211 (POEMA); We study the convergence rate of a hierarchy of upper bounds for polynomial minimization problems , proposed by Lasserre [SIAM J. Optim. 21(3) (2011), pp. 864 − 885], for the special case when the feasible set is the unit (hyper)sphere. The upper bound at level r ∈ N of the hierarchy is defined as the minimal expected value of the polynomial over all probability distributions on the sphere, when the probability density function is a sum-of-squares polynomial of degree at most 2r with respect to the surface measure. We show that the exact rate of convergence is Θ(1/r 2), and explore the implications for the related rate of convergence for the generalized problem of moments on the sphere.

International audience; Ce numéro de Rives Méditerranéenne interroge la construction d’une culture de l’intimité familiale qui a accompagné les changements du « faire famille » dans l’Italie contemporaine. Par des analyses interdisciplinaires d’un matériau empirique divers – dossiers juridiques, archives politiques et médiatiques, ethnographies des parcours familiaux, récits d’expériences et de vie féminins – et la mise en perspective de la littérature existante, il offre au lecteur des pistes pour démêler les entrelacs des pratiques intimes et des discours publics. Il présente les tensions qui se nouent autour de l’institution familiale et les enjeux de sa production politique et publique. Au cours du xxe siècle, l’intimité familiale se déplace au cœur de l’attention publique et soulève l’intérêt de l’État, de l’Église catholique, des mouvements sociaux, de la presse et d’experts variés préoccupés de la reproduction nationale. Or le contrôle de la sexualité et de la formation des unions, la redéfinition de la parentalité et l’encadrement de la filiation s’accompagnent de l’apparition d’acteurs qui étaient auparavant moins visibles – les enfants, les femmes et les étrangers.
