    Project: EC | POEMA (813211)

This work has been supported by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement 813211 (POEMA); An ideal of polynomials is symmetric if it is closed under permutations of variables. We relate general symmetric ideals to the so called Specht ideals generated by all Specht polynomials of a given shape. We show a connection between the leading monomials of polynomials in the ideal and the Specht polynomials contained in the ideal. This provides applications in several contexts. Most notably, this connection gives information about the solutions of the corresponding set of equations. From another perspective, it restricts the isotypic decomposition of the ideal viewed as a representation of the symmetric group.

Social research on public opinion has been affected by the recent deluge of new digital data on the Web, from blogs and forums to Facebook pages and Twitter accounts. This fresh type of information useful for mining opinions is emerging as an alternative to traditional techniques, such as opinion polls. Firstly, by building the state of the art of studies of political opinion based on Twitter data, this paper aims at identifying the relationship between the chosen data analysis method and the definition of political opinion implied in these studies. Secondly, it aims at investigating the feasibility of performing multiscale analysis in digital social research on political opinion by addressing the merits of several methodological techniques, from content-based to interaction-based methods, from statistical to semantic analysis, from supervised to unsupervised approaches.

Presentation internal to the lab unit members.; Doctoral; Scale free dynamics and scale invariance are universal characteristics of complex systems in nature. 1/f or long-range temporal correlations or pink noise is also a self-generated/correlated brain noise that coexists with periodic brain oscillations in a non predominant temporal fashion. For a long time this kind of noise has been ignored in experimental manipulations or analyses because thought to be the expression of instrumental noise. Nowadays, instead, recent evidence speaks in favour of the functional significance of the 1/f and its spatiotemporal organisation at different levels. However, further investigation is needed in order to unveil the relationship between each specific 1/f noise (across individuals, behavioural tasks, across different natural phenomena…).Outline of the lecture:1. Power-law distributions in nature2. Types of noise3. 1/f as a signature of complexity4. Debate between brain oscillations and noise5. New perspectives on 1/f: functional significance and temporal organisation

PyNN (pronounced 'pine') is a simulator-independent language for building neuronal network models. In other words, you can write the code for a model once, using the PyNN API and the Python programming language, and then run it without modification on any simulator that PyNN supports (currently NEURON, NEST and Brian) and on a number of neuromorphic hardware systems.Home page: http://neuralensemble.org/PyNN/Documentation: http://neuralensemble.org/docs/PyNN/Mailing list: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/neuralensembleBug reports: https://github.com/NeuralEnsemble/PyNN/issuesThis is version 0.9.6. of PyNN

OpenAlea 2.0 adds to OpenAlea 1.0 a high-level formalism dedicated to the modeling of morphogenesis that makes it possible to use several modeling paradigms (Blackboard, L-systems, Agents, Branching processes, Cellular Automata) expressed with different languages (Python, L-Py, R, Visual Programming, ...) to analyse and simulate shapes and their development.; OpenAlea is an open source project primarily aimed at the plant research community. It is a distributed collaborative effort to develop Python libraries and tools that address the needs of current and future works in Plant Architecture modeling. It includes modules to analyze, visualize and model the functioning and growth of plant architecture. It was formally developed in the Inria VirtualPlants team.
