Uudet teknologiat otetaan vastaan usein tunneperäisesti, toiset ovat kiinnostuneita, toiset epäilevät. Uudet keksinnöt ja teknologiat oikein käytettyinä avaavat meille uuden maailman, tehostavat toimintoja, lisäävät luovuutta ja mahdollistavat asioita. Tämän työn tilaajat olivat sovelluskehitysyhteisö Viastar ja kulttuurialan toimija Carnivale. Tilaajia kiinnostavat uudet teknologiat kulttuuriperinnön sovelluksissa ja hankkeissa. Tämä kehittämistyö tutki ja tarkasteli, miten voimme paremmin hyödyntää uusia teknologioita sukututkimuksen apuna. Työssä tutkittiin, miten voimme yhdistää perinteisen ja DNA-analyysiin pohjautuvan sukututkimuksen. Tässä työssä käytiin myös läpi muita uusia teknologioita, joita voidaan hyödyntää sukuhistorian ja kulttuuriperinnön tallennuksessa, tutkimuksessa sekä myös yleisemmin kulttuurituotantojen tukena. Kehittämistyötä tehtiin tutkimalla ja kokeilemalla uusia teknologioita sekä käymällä läpi laajasti opinnäytetyön tekijän sukuun liittyviä sukututkimuksia ja niiden kautta esiin tullutta kulttuuriperintöä, vanhoja kuvia, karttoja ja paikkoja. Geneettisen sukututkimuksen avulla tutkittiin isä- ja äitilinjoja eri tekniikoilla ja jäljitettiin eri sukujen kulkureittejä menneiden vuosisatojen aikoina. Tässä opinnäytetyössä analysoitiin tekijän omasta suvusta teetettyjen DNA-testien tuloksia ja osoitettiin, miten ne toimivat käytännössä sukututkimuksen välineinä. Tässä työssä käsiteltyjä muita kulttuurituotannon tekniikoita olivat drone-kuvaus, lidar-kuvaus, virtuaali- ja lisätty todellisuus. Tutkimusmenetelminä käytettiin aineistotutkimusta, DNA-testejä, havainnointia, haastattelua ja kenttätyötä kokeilemalla käytännössä erilaisissä ympäristöissä uusia teknisiä välineitä. Työn tuloksina todettiin, että uudet tekniikat toimivat sukututkimuksessa ja kulttuuriperinnön tallentamisessa erittäin hyvin. Uudet tekniikat avaavat uusia sisältöjä ja osallistavat kulttuurin tuottajan sekä kuluttajan tuotantoihin syvällisesti. Toimenpide-ehdotuksena esitettiin, että sukututkimuksessa ja kulttuurituotannoissa otettaisiin rohkeasti uusia tekniikoita laajasti käyttöön toiminnan parantamiseksi ja tehostamiseksi. New technologies are often embraced emotionally: others show interest and others doubt. It is a fact that new inventions and technologies, when used properly, open up new worlds for us, streamline operations, increase creativity and enable things. This thesis was commissioned by the application development company Viastar and the cultural sector enterprise Carnivale. Both commissioners are interested in new technologies on cultural heritage applications and projects. The objective of this study was to explore and examine how new technologies can better be utilized in genealogy. The study explored how to combine traditional and genetic genealogy research. It also reviewed some other new innovative technologies that can be used on cultural heritage research and in cultural productions. The study was carried out by exploring and experimenting new technologies and going through extensive genealogy and cultural heritage materials, old images, maps, and places that have emerged through genealogy research. In terms of genetic genealogy, lineages have been studied using different DNA techniques and the pathways of different genera have been traced over the past centuries. The study analyzed the DNA research results from the author's own lineage and show how they work in practice as a tool for genealogy. Other cultural production techniques covered in this study include drone imaging, lidar imaging, as well as virtual and augmented reality. The research methods used were document analysis, observation, interview and fieldwork by experimenting new technical tools in different environments. The results indicate that the new technologies work very well in genealogy and in saving cultural heritage. New technologies open up new content and deeply involve producers, researchers and cultural consumers in productions. The thesis proposes that genealogists and cultural sector make widespread use of new technologies to improve and increase their efficiency.

The concept of identity has been ever-present since humans have been living in societies. People have identified themselves with their work, their families, their church, or religion as well as with their Nation or state. All of these identities that people have adopted throughout time have had various impacts on how those people have seen and understood themselves as well as how they have orga nized themselves and acted. As such an influential concept it has been of particular interest to many artists, which have explored it in their own artworks and have also analyzed and re searched it as well. This research relies on the findings and works that have come before, such as Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses, research papers, lectures, ex pert interviews, articles, books as well as on artworks that are informative and relevant to the topic of Identity. The aim of the thesis is to contribute to the awareness of the impact of Identity, show its importance in the field of arts and explain how the author is playing with identity as an artist and a storyteller and to open a semiotic and symbolic discus sion of the author’s artistic work. The findings show the complexities of human identities and how particular indi viduals have creatively formed and shaped their identities in order to serve them. As our identities are constantly in the process of change, and while we continue to ask who we are, we should not forget who is it that we want to become.

Although cultural heritage is all around us and an inseparable part of us, yet receiving funding to its preservation remains as a challenge for some of the organizations conserving it. The Foundation of Petäjävesi Old Church in co-operation with the National Land Survey of Finland is pursuing to build a World Heritage Center of Central Finland which would retain the cultural legacy of Central Finland for future generations. This project requires funding in order to executed. The main objective was to discover what type of online and offline communications encourages potential donators to provide financial support for the construction project. Qualitative research method was utilized by conducting semi-structured interviews with themes of cultural heritage, responsibility communications and fundraising for cultural heritage. A thematic analysis under these themes was performed. The process led to a discovery where the educational and overall value of cultural heritage and communication methods, such as different events and activities and media content with emotive, concrete and storytelling content should be implemented. The results revealed different fundraising methods where easiness and events played a key role. These methods were included in the communications plan and provided concrete actions which the Foundation of Petäjävesi Old Church can utilize in the pursuit of receiving funding for their cause and create a personal attachment of the potential donators to their cause.

Tämä opinnäytetyö käsittelee Arkeologin arvoitus! -esityksen nukkeja. Arkeologin arvoitus! oli Meriryhmä-teatterikollektiivin vuonna 2020 tuottama nukketeatteriesitys. Esityksen muoto oli yhdistelmä nukketeatteria ja näyttelijäntyötä. Tämä opinnäytetyö kuvaa esityksen ja nukkien suunnittelun lähtökohtia ja itse rakennusprosessia. Painotus on nukkien visuaalisessa suunnittelussa ja toteutuksessa. Työn lopussa arvioidaan nukkeja osana valmista esitystä. Lisäksi pohditaan, millä tavoin nukkehahmoja voisi kehittää tulevaisuutta varten. Opinnäytetyö perustuu pitkälti kirjoittajan omaan kuvaukseen nukkien suunnittelu- ja rakennusprosessista. Työssä hyödynnetään lisäksi muita aihepiiriin liittyviä ja sitä sivuavia lähteitä. Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on tarjota inspiraatiota ja ideoita nukenrakennuksesta kiinnostuneille harrastajille sekä aloitteleville ammattilaisille. Yhtä lailla tämä työ on suunnattu museoalan ammattilaisille, arkeologeille ja historian harrastajille tarjoamaan välineitä historian popularisointiin ja elämyksellisyyteen.

The aim of this thesis was to collect the valid information of electric car history and its development all together in Finnish. The aim was also to touch upon a bit different stages of development, and today's lower-end electric cars. This final project was assigned by Vesa Linja-aho, Senior Lecturer of Automotive Electronics at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. The history of the electric car had not been available for more extensive use in Finnish language, nor the history of the electric car in Finland at the time this thesis was created. This thesis summarizes the whole history of the electric car worldwide, although the main focus is on the United States of America. The content of this thesis deals with different phases of the electric car, the 19th century and to 20th and to 21st centuries. The study also addresses briefly the electric car news and the history in Finland, the influences of the wars and the development of battery tech-nology, and finally, the disappearance of the electric car in the early 2000s and today's electric vehicles. This thesis describes the journey of electric cars from the 19th century until the 20th century and what difficulties they had to overcome to achieve their position nowadays. Tämän insinöörityön tavoitteena on koota yhteen sähköauton historia rajattuna suurelta osin 1800- ja 1900-lukuihin. Työ kuvaa myös kehityksen eri vaiheita sekä nykypäivän edullisemman luokan sähköautoja. Tämä insinöörityö on tehty tilauksesta autosähkötekniikan lehtori Vesa Linja-aholle hänen kiinnostuksestaan aiheeseen. Sähköauton historiasta ei tämän insinöörityön tekemisen ajankohtana ollut saatavissa laajempaa tietoa suomen kielellä eikä myöskään sähköauton historiasta Suomesta. Tämä insinöörityö on tiivistetty kokonaisuus sähköauton historiasta ympäri maailman, vaikka pääpaino onkin Amerikan Yhdysvalloissa. Insinöörityö on sisällöltään jakautunut sähköauton eri vaiheisiin, 1800-, 1900–2000-lukuihin. Työssä käsitellään myös lyhyesti sähköauton uutisointia ja historiaa Suomessa, sotien vaikutuksia kehitykseen, akkutekniikkaa sekä lopuksi laajemmin sähköauton katoamista 2000-luvun alussa ja nykypäivän sähköautoja. Tässä opinnäytetyössä kerrotaan, minkälainen sähköauton taival on ollut 1800-luvulta aina 2000-luvulle saakka ja mitä vaikeuksia kehityksen aikana on koettu.

Opinnäytetyössäni käsitellään poikkitaiteellisuutta sekä taideopetuksen että oman kuvallisen ilmaisun konteksteissa. Tavoitteena on ollut luoda perinteisen piirtämiseen tai maalaamiseen pohjautuvan kuvataideopetuksen rinnalle poikkitaiteellinen työpajamalli, jossa osallistujilla on mahdollisuus valita itseään kiinnostava ilmaisukeino, esimerkiksi ääni-, kuva-, tanssi- tai sanataide yhteisen produktion toteuttamiseksi. Opiskelijoiden taidekäsitystä laajentamalla on mahdollista saada myös pojat innostumaan taiteesta kaikille sopivana harrastusmuotona. Tarkastelun kohteena on ollut myös taiteen tekemisen kautta saatavat hyvinvointivaikutukset lasten, nuorten sekä myös omien mielenterveysongelmieni helpottajana. Menetelminä on käytetty toimintatutkimusta sekä autoetnografiaa. Työpajamalli pohjautuu lähdeaineistosta löytyvien poikkitaiteellisia opetusmenetelmiä käsittelevien tutkimusten tuloksiin, taiteen tekemisen todistetusti tuottamiin hyvinvointivaikutuksiin sekä omiin kokemuksiin taideopettajana ja taiteentekijänä. Lopuksi on esitelty poikkitaiteellisen työpajamallin sisällöt ja tavoitteet sekä pohdittu miten tutkimuksissa hyödylliseksi todettua opetusmetodia voisi toteuttaa yleissivistävässä koulutuksessa sekä vapaassa sivistystyössä. Koska työpajamallin testaus jää vielä toteuttamatta, ei sille asetettuja tavoitteita ole voitu arvioida tämän opinnäytetyön puitteissa.

The thesis inspects two different orientations in artworks: content oriented and context oriented artworks, and how these two different approaches shift and form the aesthetic experience. The Professor of Art History in University of California San Diego, Grant Kester, PhD (b.1959), stated by quoting British artist Peter Dunn (b. 1940) that most artists who focus on social practice art are “context providers” rather than “content providers”, the statement raised an interesting discussion and is the base of this research. Insufficient view time may cause certain overlooking which leads to merely a few percentages grasp of the artwork especially in moving image artworks. To reach this goal in using the moving image as the main medium, expanding the interactivity: spectator contributes a visual element to the artwork, is applied to reach higher aesthetic emotion. The report analysed materiality, vertical and landscape aspect ratio in moving image, discussed aesthetic experience and the difference between content and context in art. The projects consist of two artworks, one artwork emphasizes on creating a con-tent-oriented, visually intriguing installation, which also provides an interactive element encouraging spectator’s participation in completion of the artwork; the second artwork leans towards context based in minimalistic and traditional visual identity. The two artworks will then be compared and voted by the visitors in degree show exhibition RAW; spectators are welcome to decide freely which art-work they like more solely determined by personal preferences.

Opinnäytetyö on osa Metropolia Ammattikorkeakoulun ylläpitämän Hoitotyön koulutuksen museon opinnäytetyöprojektia, jossa pyritään esittelemään erilaisia mielenkiintoisia sairaanhoidon historiaan liittyviä tekijöitä. Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on kuvata keskosten sairaalasiirtojen ja niissä käytetyn välineistön historiaa ja kehitystä Suomen 100-vuotisen historian aikana. Tavoitteena on lisätä ammattilaisten ja hoitoalan opiskelijoiden tietoisuutta keskosten sairaanhoidon historiasta ja tuoda elävyyttä uuden suunnitteilla oleva Terveysalojen koulutuksenmuseoon kuuluvan näyttelyn välineistölle Metropolian Myllypuron kampuksella. Tutkimusmenetelmänä sovellettiin narratiivista kirjallisuuskatsausta. Opinnäytetyön aineisto koostui ammattilehtien artikkeleista, hoitosuosituksista, oppikirjoista ja elämäkerroista viimeisen sadan vuoden ajalta. Aineistosta saadut tulokset analysoitiin historiallisella sisällönanalyysilla. Keskosten sairaalasiirrot ovat olleet jatkuvassa murroksessa koko itsenäisyyden ajan. Vielä vuonna 1917 kaikki synnytykset ja vastasyntyneet hoidettiin kotona. Keskosena syntyi noin 10 % vastasyntyneistä. Keskosten kuolleisuus oli suurta eikä heidän hoitonsa poikennut mitenkään muiden vastasyntyneiden hoidosta. Suomessa sairaalapaikkoja keskosille oli ainoastaan Helsingin Lastenlinnassa. 1940-luvulla keskosten sairaalasiirtoja varten kehitettiin erityinen puinen keskosen kuljetuslaatikko, joka auttoi ylläpitämään keskosten ruumiinlämpöä siirron aikana. Suurin osa keskosten siirroista tapahtui edelleen synnytyslaitokselta kotiin, sillä keskosten sairaalapaikkoja ei ollut kuin 150 koko Suomessa. Siirrot toteutti aina kätilö. Sotien jälkeen Lastenlinnaan saatiin ensimmäisen keskoskaappi. Nykyisin lähes kaikki synnytykset hoidetaan sairaalaoloissa ja riskiraskaudet pyritään keskittämään yliopistotasoisiin sairaaloihin keskosten parhaan hoidon turvaamiseksi heti syntymän hetkestä lähtien. Suurin osa siirroista tapahtuu yliopistosairaaloista jatkohoitoon alueellisiin keskussairaaloihin keskosen voinnin ollessa vakaa. Keskonen siirretään ambulanssikuljetuksella kuljetuskehdossa, joka ylläpitää keskosten lämpötaloutta ja huolehtii riittävästä hapetuksesta. Mukana siirroissa on kätilö tai lastensairaanhoitaja sekä akuuteissa siirroissa lisäksi pediatri tai neonatologi. Keskosten kuolleisuus on Suomessa maailman pienimpiä. This thesis is part of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ Museum of Nursing thesis project, whose purpose is to introduce different aspects in history of nursing. The intention of said thesis is to present history and development of hospital transfers of preterm infants and the equipment used during the independency of Finland. The aim is to increase awareness among professionals and students about the history of premature babies and enliven the content of new Exhibition of Health Sector in Museum of Nursing located in Myllypuro campus. The research is based on narrative literature review. The material covered articles from different special journals, nursing guidelines, schoolbooks and biographies from the century of independency. The found material was analyzed using historical content analysis. Hospital transfers of premature infants has been on continuous development during the last century. In 1917 all infants were delivered and nursed at home. Ten per cent of newborn babies were preterm. Their care didn’t differ from full-term newborn care so the majority didn’t survive. A special wooden transit case was invented in the ‘40s to protect the preterm infant from hypothermia during the transfer. Most of the transfers were from the delivery ward to home because there was only a possibility for 150 preterm infants to receive hospital care in Finland at the time. Midwives were the professionals in hospital transfers. After the Continuation War in ‘40s the children’s hospital Lastenlinna got the first incubator in Finland. Nowadays all infants are delivered in the delivery ward in the hospitals. The complicated pregnancies are centralized to University Hospitals to guarantee the best care for preterm infants. Hospital transfers are operated in a special incubator which maintains newborn’s body temperature and eases respiration. A midwife or nurse always assists the transfer and in an emergency there will be a pediatrician or a neonatologist to take care of the preterm infant during the transfer.

Do you still wish to see the deceased, or do we close the lid before last goodbye? The physical remains of the human soul received their last observers, the shell that had preserved consciousness exhaled its emptiness. The lid of the coffin sealed the departure of our last journey on earth. In my final work, Mizpah - Enigmas of the Existence and Non-Existence : an exploration through art, I immersed myself in an examination of my own perception of death, existence and non-existence, and the implications of the metaphors, reflections and thematics created by these concepts in my own artistic work. How the already non-existing, continues to exist throughout an artist's life - contributing and constantly shaping the artist's understanding and worldview - while the void created by absence echoes with questions that, despite searching, have no ready answers. Mizpah - Enigmas of the Existence and Non-Existence : an exploration through art, provides a window into the longing and yearning created by the void, opening up the involvement of loss and the mourning process through my creations of art. Vill du fortfarande träffa den avlidne, eller stänger vi locket före det sista avskedet? Den mänskliga själens fysiska kvarlevor tog emot sina sista observatörer, skalet som hade bevarat medvetandet andades ut sin tomhet. Kistans lock förseglade avresan från vår sista resa på jorden. I mitt slutarbete, Mizpah - Existensens och nollexistensens enigmas: att utforska genom konsten, fördjupade jag mig i en undersökning av min egen uppfattning om död, existens och icke-existens, och konsekvenserna av de metaforer, reflektioner och teman som dessa begrepp skapar i mitt eget konstnärliga arbete. Hur det redan icke-existerande fortsätter att existera under en konstnärs liv - och hur det bidrar till och ständigt formar konstnärens förståelse och världsåskådning - samtidigt som det tomrum som skapas av frånvaron ekar av frågor som, trots att man söker, inte har några färdiga svar. Mizpah - Existensens och nollexistensens enigmas: att utforska genom konsten, ger ett fönster in i den längtan och längtan som skapas av tomheten och öppnar upp för förlust och sorgeprocessen genom mina konstverk. Kuinka jo olemassaolematon, jatkaa olemassaolevaisuuttaan läpi taiteilijan elämän — myötävaikuttaen, ja alati muovaten taiteilijan ymmärrystä ja maailmankatsomusta — poissaolon luoman tyhjiön kaikuessa kysymyksiä, joihin ei etsinnöistä huolimatta löydy valmiita vastauksia. Mizpah - Olevaisuuden ja olemattomuuden enigmoja : tutkintaa taiteen keinoin, antaa myös katsauksen tyhjiön luomaan ikävään ja kaipaukseen, avaten menetyksen ja suruprosessin osallisuutta teoksissani.

Tämä kuvataiteen opinnäytetyö käsittelee visuaalisen tarinankerronnan historiaa, metodeja ja luonnetta maalaustaiteen kontekstissa. Opinnäytetyö esittelee, miksi tarinoiden kertominen on merkityksellistä ja pohtii narratiivisuuden mahdollisuuksia ja rajoja maalaustaiteessa, sivuten myös kuvitusta ja sarjakuvaa. Opinnäytetyö esittelee esimerkkejä taidehistoriallisista kerronnan keinoista sekä nykypäivän narratiivisista taidemaalareista. Opinnäytetyön taiteellisessa osiossa toteutettiin maalauksen ja taidegrafiikan keinoin kerronnallinen teoskokonaisuus. Sekatekniikkamaalaukset kertovat kukin oman osansa tarinasta ja yhdessä muodostavat kertomuksen, jossa katsoja voi nähdä haluamansa loppuratkaisun. This thesis in fine arts explores the history, methods, and nature of visual storytelling in the context of painting. The thesis presents why telling stories is meaningful and considers the possibilities and limits of narrative within the art of painting, also touching on illustration and comics. The thesis presents examples of narrative methods from art history and today’s narrative painters. In the artistic section of this thesis, a narrative ensemble of artworks was realized using means of painting and printmaking. The mixed media paintings each tell their own part of the story and together form a narrative in which the viewer can see the denouement they want.
