    金庸的武侠小说是当代小说中极具个人魅力和影响力的作品。自七、八十年代就有无数翻拍电视剧问世,直至2000年后仍是如此,甚至还有网游与手游的出现,足见金庸武侠小说的影响之深远。金庸先生成功地塑造了各色令人难忘的经典人物,那些行事独特而又性格鲜明的人物不仅深受读者的喜爱,也展现了人的不同性格与感情思想,才使得小说内容丰富而多彩。 本文将主要探讨《射雕英雄传》中的武林奇才——“东邪”黄药师。黄药师是《射雕英雄传》小说中塑造得相当成功的一位传奇人物,但随着金庸第二次修订小说,对此人物的修改引起了读者的广泛讨论,而各类电视剧对此人物的改编则呈现了不同于小说的诠释方式,因此,本文以黄药师为主要分析对象,以文学手法的角度探讨其人物形象的塑造,并分析小说与电视剧之间如何以不同方式呈现人物的形象。最后,本文也尝试探讨《射雕英雄传》一书在第二次修订后影响人物形象的问题,以及电视剧作品对人物的改编所引发读者与观众的反应。 笔者发现黄药师是《射雕英雄传》整部小说中对于推动故事剧情极为重要的人物,所以电视剧的改编与剧情发展与黄药师的呈现有着紧密的关系,而作者的修改、读者与观众对于人物的理解也产生多元化的解读方式。 Jin Yong’s wuxia novels gained much popularity and created great influence in the era of modern novels. There were many adapted TV series produced from the 70s and 80s, such that even after 2000 there are still TV series remade, together with the creation of online and mobile games adapted from the novels. Jin Yong's success lies in the creation of unique and distinctive characters that not only captured readers’ attention, but also reflected the complexity of human, making the stories enriching and interesting. This paper’s discussion will mainly focus on the character Huang Yaoshi (also known as the “Eastern Devil”) from The Legend of Condor Heroes. The change in Huang Yaoshi’s character image in the revised edition of the novel led to much discussion among readers. On the other hand, TV series have very different interpretations and approach in representing this character on screen. Thus, this paper will be analysing how Huang Yaoshi’s character image was shaped through literary approaches in the novel and analyse how different TV series represent the character on screen. Finally, this paper also attempts to address the issue regarding the revised edition of "The Legend of Condor Heroes" and analyse the adaptation of Huang Yaoshi in the TV series that led to discussion among readers and audiences. Through this paper, I discovered the importance of Huang Yaoshi’s character image in the development of the story plot, thus the story plot of adapted TV series should be closely linked to the representation of Huang Yaoshi. The discussion led by changes to this character and the representation of him on TV series also served as a form of communication between author, readers and audience, enabling us to have a more diverse understanding of this character.     马来亚共产党,简称马共,成立于1930年。至今,马共历史已走过半个世纪之久,但一直以来都被官方所规训,给人民留下刻板的负面印象,认为马共是破坏社会安宁的“恐怖分子”。1989年,马共与马泰政府签署和平协议后,走出森林,终于结束了这场长达四十多年的战役。然而,在马来西亚公开讨论马共仍是禁止的,属于较敏感的课题,连与马共相关的电影亦遭到禁播。2000年后,与马共相关的回忆录、自传或小说都开始大量出版面世,以“小历史”、“小叙事”的姿态与官方的历史叙事对话,打破官方的一元叙事观。不过,“小历史”必然也存在其分歧点,马共局内人、局外人或后代皆以不同的历史视角,为读者ᨀ供了马共历史的各个面向。本论文以不同时代的创作者与其作品,如金枝芒《饥饿》、黄锦树《山路》与廖克发《不即不离》为例子,探讨局内、局外的叙述者金枝芒和黄锦树如何从虚构的小说中去建构属于他们的历史及解构历史框架,又或是从后代拍摄的纪录片中去重构和反思这段历史。 The Malayan Communist Party (MCP), was founded in 1930. More than half century has passed however, the written history of MCP has been strictly monitored by the government, leaving a negative impression on the people and the MCP has been labelled as “terrorist” who has undermined social peace. In 1989, the MCP surrendered its arms, and finally ended the battle that had been fought for more than 40 years by signing a peace agreement with both Malaysian and Thai governments. However, it was still prohibited to discuss MCP history in public as it was considered as a sensitive issue in Malaysia, even the film which was related to the MCP had been banned by the government. After 2000, a large number of memoirs, autobiography and novel have been published in the form of “small history” or “small narrative”. These writings responded to the official historical narration and challenged its single narrative perspective. On the other hand, inevitably like all history narration, there are several contradictions in the “small history”, thus providing us different point of view from the insider, outsider and from the next generation of MCP. This thesis will be studying works related to the history of MCP from authors with various backgrounds. Two fictions written by the insider and outsider of MCP — Jin Zhi Mang’s “Ji e” and Ng Kim Chew’s “Shan Lu” were analysed respectively to understand how they constructed and deconstructed the history from the fictional characters. Lau Kek Huat’s documentary “Absent Without Leave” was also studied, to understand how the thirdgeneration of MCP reconstructed and reflected this history. Bachelor of Arts

    父权社会中的女性话语权、主体性以及可见度都因男性中心话语而受到一定的压制,媒介长久以来也加强着许多对女性的刻板印象,导致女性话语权,主体性和女性意识难以得到提高。以相声、小品为代表的中国传统喜剧,无论从发展背景还是内容来看,都以男性话语为中心,长久以来塑造着符合官方和父权话语下的女性形象;但随着政治、文娱、媒介科技的发展,单口喜剧脱口秀这一舶来品以网络为平台,为女性话语和媒介形象提供了新的发声和扩音的渠道。 本文将分析2017年至2022年播出的现象级单口喜剧脱口秀节目《脱口秀大会》系列中女性单口喜剧脱口秀演员的女性话语,探究单口喜剧脱口秀这一形式以及网络这一平台如何赋权着女性进行着富有主体性的表达,改变固有的媒介形象,提升其话语权和主体意识。 Female discourse, subjectivity and visibility in a patriarchal society are suppressed by the male-dominated discourse, and the media has long reinforced many stereotypes of women, making it difficult to empower female discourse, subjectivity and the development of feminism. Traditional forms Chinese comedy, represented by comic strips (xiao pin) and sketches (xiang sheng), has been produced by and for the gaze of male, both in terms of its historical development and the content. The image and portrayal of women are in line with the official and patriarchal discourse; however, with the development of the entertainment industry and media technology, the western imported Stand-Up Comedy, using the internet as a platform, has provided a new channel for empowering women's discourse and the construction of female image. This paper will analyze the female discourse of female stand-up comedians in the phenomenal stand-up comedy talk show series Rock&Roast, which aired from 2017 to 2022, and explore how the form of stand-up comedy and the platform of the internet empowered women to express themselves with subjectivity, changing the stereotypical portrayal if female on media.     古代中国的同性恋现象作为一种亚文化具有研究意义。《弁而钗》受晚明崇情思想影响,被认为是真正正面描写同性恋的小说集。本文以男性气概的性别概念分析当中同性恋的主/从关系和情欲表现,探讨同性恋如何借由协商双方的男性气概而建构、发展和消解。第一章将梳理中国同性恋传统与晚明的崇情思想,为分析《弁而钗》文本做相关社会背景和文化思想的介绍;第二章着手《弁而钗》的文本细读,阐述男性气概的协商原因和表现,及同性恋的社会处境;第三章推测《弁而钗》男性气概的协商的文化心理。The phenomenon of homosexuality in ancient China is of great significance as a subculture research topic. Being influenced by the thought of honoring qing in late Ming, Bian er chai is considered to be a collection of novels that truly describe homosexuality. This thesis uses the concept of masculinity to analyse the dominant/submissive relationship and erotic performance of homosexuals and explore how the negotiation of masculinities has enabled homosexuality to be constructed, developed and de-constructed. The first chapter will summarise the history of homosexual tradition in ancient China and introduce the thought of honoring qing in late Ming, this is to set the context of the thesis. The second chapter will analyse the text of Bian er chai and discuss the reasons and performance of negotiating masculinities, as well as to examine the social situation of homosexuality in ancient China.     甲午战争刺激下维新思潮兴起,知识分子视传统女性为衰败国家的符号象征,认为二万万女性无一生利者,提出解放女性、兴女学、废缠足等观念,以求“变法求强”、“强国保种”,并塑造出有学识和教养,能“益家善种”的“国民之母”的新女性形象。这些知识分子将国家衰弱的原因归结于女性的衰弱,正是受厌女文化的意识形态所影响。 本文将首先定义厌女并讨论传统的“红颜祸水”的观念。接着解读倡导妇女解放运动的知识分子所提出的主张和主要诉求,以男性和女性文人的视角为焦点,探讨其中所表现出的“厌女症”和父权主义思想。最后,本文将试图厘清厌女文化与妇女解放运动的关系,进一步讨论男性在解放妇女运动中所扮演的倡导者的角色。 Following the defeat of China in the Sino-Japanese War, reform-minded Chinese intellectuals showed their concerns on the women’s liberation as the women are the cause to the failure of the country. That contributes to the women’s movement in China where they supported women’s education, opposed to foot-binding by the reason of strengthening the country. Women are important, as they are the ‘mother of a nation’ who play a main role in rearing of the future generations. These views in fact demonstrated an ideology of misogyny. This paper will first define misogyny and discuss the Chinese femme fatale then evaluate the misogyny and patriarchal ideology that have been manifested in the notions of the scholars from the perspectives of both male and female. Lastly, we will analyse the relationship between misogyny and women’s movement, and further discuss the male-dominance in the women’s movement. Bachelor of Arts in Chinese

    在现代汉语中,“是……的”强调句式是常见又特殊的表达句式。其作用在于让说话者准确表达句子的重心,让听者迅速捕捉关键讯息,以达到有效的沟通。虽然使用频率高,但汉语学习者却屡屡出现使用偏误的现象。而针对“是……的”偏误现象的研究,许多学者都着重于美国、澳洲、英国等英语为母语的汉语学习者,以新加坡学生为对象的研究却寥寥无几。为了理解新加坡学生对“是……的”句式的掌握程度,本研究通过收集新加坡初级学院学生的作文语料,分析其偏误类型,并且结合新加坡语言环境的概况,探讨出现偏误的可能原因。研究结果显示,在使用“是……的”句式时:(一)新加坡学生最常出现的偏误类型是“缺省”,其中又以缺省“的”的现象最严重。(二)在英语强调句式负迁移的影响下,新加坡学生无法彻底掌握“是……的”句式的使用规则,对“的”的用法尤其不理想。(三)新加坡学生所采取的简化和回避策略,加剧了“缺省”偏误现象。希望本研究能为新加坡教育工作者在“是……的”句式教学上提供参考,提升新加坡学生对“是……的”句式的掌握程度,以达到更有效地沟通。The shi…de construction in Mandarin Chinese functions to identify the focus of a message conveyed by the speaker. Albeit how common and frequent this construction is used in Mandarin, the construction is often used with errors by Mandarin learners. Current studies on the misuses of the shi…de construction are mainly targeted at Mandarin learners from English speaking countries like the US, Australia, and UK. Little research has been conducted among students in Singapore.This study aims to analyse the usage of shi…de among junior college students in Singapore based on their writing samples. The research focuses on the types of erroneous usage, taking into account the Singapore context, and discusses the possible causes leading to the errors. There are three major findings in this study: 1. Omission is the most frequent error among Singapore students; more specifically, the missing of de in the construction is the most commonly seen error. 2. The negative transfer of English focus construction into Mandarin may have affected the students’ command of shi…de. 3. The adoption of simplification and deliberate avoidance strategies may have also contributed to the omission errors.This thesis hopes to serve as a reference for the teachings of the shi…de construction in Singapore. And ultimately, to improve students’ command of it for more effective communication. Bachelor of Arts in Chinese

    光华戏院于上世纪20年代已出现,亦为新加坡日战前最早的有声戏院之一,同时也属早期首轮华语片的戏院。该戏院曾放映轰动一时的经典电影,如《误佳期》、《一江春水向东流》等都成为光华戏院的主要招牌,从而打响光华的名声。新加坡戏院历史悠久,早期的戏院更是不胜枚举,各家戏院都具有各自独特的特色,无论是在历史、电影、建筑、文化上等等,都有目共睹。然而,现今社会今非昔比,许多旧时戏院已默默地走进了历史,小坡大马路之光华戏院乃其中之一。本文首先将列出研究意义及方法,如王鹏翔先生所提供的第一手资料、《南洋商报》电影广告等,之后将会列出新加坡光华戏院的历史发展,并分为三大时期,即日战前、日佔时与日战后。第二章主要分析光华戏院战前至战后的院线,探讨光华与各家戏院的合作关系以及合作时期所放映的电影。第三章则是光华与两大影业机构邵氏戏院与国泰戏院之间的院线,探讨光华戏院与两院之间的关系。最后,将会对此课题作出总结和提出未来的研究方向。In the history of Singapore cinemas, Jubilee Theatre or Kwang Hwa Theatre was located at North Bridge Road was one of the first sound cinemas running first run films in Singapore dated back in the 20th century. Jubilee Theatre successfully made its name by screening some of the popular films example wujiaqi, yijiangchunshuixiangdongliu,. Back in the 1930s, during the booming industry of cinemas, each cinema possessed their own unique characteristics based on their history, movies, architecture, culture which were gradually being recognized by the masses. However, as society advanced, cinemas could not keep up with the fast rising pace, which eventually led to the demise of many cinema buildings including the Jubilee Theatre. This article will begin by stating the significance of this research and the main resources used to aid in this research, for example, the first hand articles written and provided by Mr. Wang Tai Peng as well as movie advertisements, newspaper articles from Nanyang Siang Pau. Thereafter, the article will provide a detailed outline of the history and development of Jubilee Theatre. 2nd chapter will then focus on the network of Jubilee Theatre from pre-war to post-war by defining the key concept of ‘theatre chain’ with reference to the movies screened during the collaboration. Besides forming networks with various cinemas, Jubilee Theatre’s most prominent collaboration would be with the Shaw Brothers and Cathay Organisation, hence the relationship between the three cinemas will also be analyzed in the 3rd chapter. The article will then end off with a conclusion and also to propose a status for future research of this topic. Bachelor of Arts

    韩素音,著名的当代英籍欧亚裔作家,以小说与传记见长,其1917年生于河南信阳,祖籍四川成都,2012年11月2日于瑞士逝世。韩素音出生于中国大家庭,父亲是中国人,而母亲是比利时人,其从幼年时代始,便在两种语言与文化间游移穿梭。韩素音的成长孕育了其“边缘”与“离散”的生命特征,除了在血缘上是欧亚混血,其三段婚姻中亦有两段是异族通婚。由此,其常有被边缘化的深刻感受,更有扮演中西间桥梁的强烈渴望。 韩素音虽经历跨界离散,但却花费其一生致力于跨越国籍、文化、族裔和性别的樊篱,富有亚洲意识地极力维护中国文化。曾一度面临政治上的何去何从、生活上无处安身的艰难抉择,然而韩素音最终仍选择成为不同国度(中西)之间穿梭游走的“搭桥”角色,更自愿亲近中国大陆的新兴政权。其身为欧亚裔而对中华文化的归属认同,于中国历史、社会、文学界中是一有趣且复杂的案列,实具研究价值。 本文将集中以韩素音的主要文学作品为探讨对象,聚焦于其传记性书写,拟以「离散」、「混杂性」、「国族」、「女性主义」等作为立论基础,进而勾勒出韩素音对于中国与西方、家国与流离、华人与其他族裔之间复杂的关系网络思考,进而探索其自身与文学作品中不同深度的「中国性」。Han Suyin (1917-2012) was a famous British-Eurasian author. She was born in China, with her father being Chinese and her mother being Belgian. Han Suyin had grown up within the environment of the two different languages and cultures, resulting in the cultivation of “border” and “diasporic” concepts as her life characteristics. In addition to having mixed Chinese and European ancestry, she went through two inter-racial marriages, and had travelled between countries such as China, Europe, Malaya, India and Switzerland throughout her entire life. Therefore, she always felt socially excluded but yet held strong desires to help connect the East and the West. Despite experiencing transnational diaspora, Han Suyin devoted her entire life into crossing the boundaries between different nations, cultures, race and gender, and upholding of the Chinese culture. Han Suyin had once faced difficult choices in politics and livelihood, however she eventually chose to become the connection between different countries and willingly support the Chinese regimental changes. Her acknowledgement towards China and her awkward identity as a Chinese-European, is an interesting yet complicated case within China’s history, society and literature, and is of meaningful research value. However, most of the research regarding Han Suyin were discussed within the historical and social contexts, and there is a lack of studies regarding her literature works. This thesis aims to focus on Han Suyin’s sinophone literature, with a special attention on her autobiographies (as well as her other writing of biographies) . These works will be discussed using various theories such as “diaspora”, “hybridity”, “cultural identity”, “nationalism” and “feminism” as the research basis to outline Han Suyin’s thoughts regarding the relationships between China and the West, home and displacement, and Chinese and other races. The degree of “Chinese-ness” in her literature works will also be further explored. Master of Arts

    金庸的武侠小说是当代小说中极具个人魅力和影响力的作品。自七、八十年代就有无数翻拍电视剧问世,直至2000年后仍是如此,甚至还有网游与手游的出现,足见金庸武侠小说的影响之深远。金庸先生成功地塑造了各色令人难忘的经典人物,那些行事独特而又性格鲜明的人物不仅深受读者的喜爱,也展现了人的不同性格与感情思想,才使得小说内容丰富而多彩。 本文将主要探讨《射雕英雄传》中的武林奇才——“东邪”黄药师。黄药师是《射雕英雄传》小说中塑造得相当成功的一位传奇人物,但随着金庸第二次修订小说,对此人物的修改引起了读者的广泛讨论,而各类电视剧对此人物的改编则呈现了不同于小说的诠释方式,因此,本文以黄药师为主要分析对象,以文学手法的角度探讨其人物形象的塑造,并分析小说与电视剧之间如何以不同方式呈现人物的形象。最后,本文也尝试探讨《射雕英雄传》一书在第二次修订后影响人物形象的问题,以及电视剧作品对人物的改编所引发读者与观众的反应。 笔者发现黄药师是《射雕英雄传》整部小说中对于推动故事剧情极为重要的人物,所以电视剧的改编与剧情发展与黄药师的呈现有着紧密的关系,而作者的修改、读者与观众对于人物的理解也产生多元化的解读方式。 Jin Yong’s wuxia novels gained much popularity and created great influence in the era of modern novels. There were many adapted TV series produced from the 70s and 80s, such that even after 2000 there are still TV series remade, together with the creation of online and mobile games adapted from the novels. Jin Yong's success lies in the creation of unique and distinctive characters that not only captured readers’ attention, but also reflected the complexity of human, making the stories enriching and interesting. This paper’s discussion will mainly focus on the character Huang Yaoshi (also known as the “Eastern Devil”) from The Legend of Condor Heroes. The change in Huang Yaoshi’s character image in the revised edition of the novel led to much discussion among readers. On the other hand, TV series have very different interpretations and approach in representing this character on screen. Thus, this paper will be analysing how Huang Yaoshi’s character image was shaped through literary approaches in the novel and analyse how different TV series represent the character on screen. Finally, this paper also attempts to address the issue regarding the revised edition of "The Legend of Condor Heroes" and analyse the adaptation of Huang Yaoshi in the TV series that led to discussion among readers and audiences. Through this paper, I discovered the importance of Huang Yaoshi’s character image in the development of the story plot, thus the story plot of adapted TV series should be closely linked to the representation of Huang Yaoshi. The discussion led by changes to this character and the representation of him on TV series also served as a form of communication between author, readers and audience, enabling us to have a more diverse understanding of this character.     马来亚共产党,简称马共,成立于1930年。至今,马共历史已走过半个世纪之久,但一直以来都被官方所规训,给人民留下刻板的负面印象,认为马共是破坏社会安宁的“恐怖分子”。1989年,马共与马泰政府签署和平协议后,走出森林,终于结束了这场长达四十多年的战役。然而,在马来西亚公开讨论马共仍是禁止的,属于较敏感的课题,连与马共相关的电影亦遭到禁播。2000年后,与马共相关的回忆录、自传或小说都开始大量出版面世,以“小历史”、“小叙事”的姿态与官方的历史叙事对话,打破官方的一元叙事观。不过,“小历史”必然也存在其分歧点,马共局内人、局外人或后代皆以不同的历史视角,为读者ᨀ供了马共历史的各个面向。本论文以不同时代的创作者与其作品,如金枝芒《饥饿》、黄锦树《山路》与廖克发《不即不离》为例子,探讨局内、局外的叙述者金枝芒和黄锦树如何从虚构的小说中去建构属于他们的历史及解构历史框架,又或是从后代拍摄的纪录片中去重构和反思这段历史。 The Malayan Communist Party (MCP), was founded in 1930. More than half century has passed however, the written history of MCP has been strictly monitored by the government, leaving a negative impression on the people and the MCP has been labelled as “terrorist” who has undermined social peace. In 1989, the MCP surrendered its arms, and finally ended the battle that had been fought for more than 40 years by signing a peace agreement with both Malaysian and Thai governments. However, it was still prohibited to discuss MCP history in public as it was considered as a sensitive issue in Malaysia, even the film which was related to the MCP had been banned by the government. After 2000, a large number of memoirs, autobiography and novel have been published in the form of “small history” or “small narrative”. These writings responded to the official historical narration and challenged its single narrative perspective. On the other hand, inevitably like all history narration, there are several contradictions in the “small history”, thus providing us different point of view from the insider, outsider and from the next generation of MCP. This thesis will be studying works related to the history of MCP from authors with various backgrounds. Two fictions written by the insider and outsider of MCP — Jin Zhi Mang’s “Ji e” and Ng Kim Chew’s “Shan Lu” were analysed respectively to understand how they constructed and deconstructed the history from the fictional characters. Lau Kek Huat’s documentary “Absent Without Leave” was also studied, to understand how the thirdgeneration of MCP reconstructed and reflected this history. Bachelor of Arts

    父权社会中的女性话语权、主体性以及可见度都因男性中心话语而受到一定的压制,媒介长久以来也加强着许多对女性的刻板印象,导致女性话语权,主体性和女性意识难以得到提高。以相声、小品为代表的中国传统喜剧,无论从发展背景还是内容来看,都以男性话语为中心,长久以来塑造着符合官方和父权话语下的女性形象;但随着政治、文娱、媒介科技的发展,单口喜剧脱口秀这一舶来品以网络为平台,为女性话语和媒介形象提供了新的发声和扩音的渠道。 本文将分析2017年至2022年播出的现象级单口喜剧脱口秀节目《脱口秀大会》系列中女性单口喜剧脱口秀演员的女性话语,探究单口喜剧脱口秀这一形式以及网络这一平台如何赋权着女性进行着富有主体性的表达,改变固有的媒介形象,提升其话语权和主体意识。 Female discourse, subjectivity and visibility in a patriarchal society are suppressed by the male-dominated discourse, and the media has long reinforced many stereotypes of women, making it difficult to empower female discourse, subjectivity and the development of feminism. Traditional forms Chinese comedy, represented by comic strips (xiao pin) and sketches (xiang sheng), has been produced by and for the gaze of male, both in terms of its historical development and the content. The image and portrayal of women are in line with the official and patriarchal discourse; however, with the development of the entertainment industry and media technology, the western imported Stand-Up Comedy, using the internet as a platform, has provided a new channel for empowering women's discourse and the construction of female image. This paper will analyze the female discourse of female stand-up comedians in the phenomenal stand-up comedy talk show series Rock&Roast, which aired from 2017 to 2022, and explore how the form of stand-up comedy and the platform of the internet empowered women to express themselves with subjectivity, changing the stereotypical portrayal if female on media.     古代中国的同性恋现象作为一种亚文化具有研究意义。《弁而钗》受晚明崇情思想影响,被认为是真正正面描写同性恋的小说集。本文以男性气概的性别概念分析当中同性恋的主/从关系和情欲表现,探讨同性恋如何借由协商双方的男性气概而建构、发展和消解。第一章将梳理中国同性恋传统与晚明的崇情思想,为分析《弁而钗》文本做相关社会背景和文化思想的介绍;第二章着手《弁而钗》的文本细读,阐述男性气概的协商原因和表现,及同性恋的社会处境;第三章推测《弁而钗》男性气概的协商的文化心理。The phenomenon of homosexuality in ancient China is of great significance as a subculture research topic. Being influenced by the thought of honoring qing in late Ming, Bian er chai is considered to be a collection of novels that truly describe homosexuality. This thesis uses the concept of masculinity to analyse the dominant/submissive relationship and erotic performance of homosexuals and explore how the negotiation of masculinities has enabled homosexuality to be constructed, developed and de-constructed. The first chapter will summarise the history of homosexual tradition in ancient China and introduce the thought of honoring qing in late Ming, this is to set the context of the thesis. The second chapter will analyse the text of Bian er chai and discuss the reasons and performance of negotiating masculinities, as well as to examine the social situation of homosexuality in ancient China.     甲午战争刺激下维新思潮兴起,知识分子视传统女性为衰败国家的符号象征,认为二万万女性无一生利者,提出解放女性、兴女学、废缠足等观念,以求“变法求强”、“强国保种”,并塑造出有学识和教养,能“益家善种”的“国民之母”的新女性形象。这些知识分子将国家衰弱的原因归结于女性的衰弱,正是受厌女文化的意识形态所影响。 本文将首先定义厌女并讨论传统的“红颜祸水”的观念。接着解读倡导妇女解放运动的知识分子所提出的主张和主要诉求,以男性和女性文人的视角为焦点,探讨其中所表现出的“厌女症”和父权主义思想。最后,本文将试图厘清厌女文化与妇女解放运动的关系,进一步讨论男性在解放妇女运动中所扮演的倡导者的角色。 Following the defeat of China in the Sino-Japanese War, reform-minded Chinese intellectuals showed their concerns on the women’s liberation as the women are the cause to the failure of the country. That contributes to the women’s movement in China where they supported women’s education, opposed to foot-binding by the reason of strengthening the country. Women are important, as they are the ‘mother of a nation’ who play a main role in rearing of the future generations. These views in fact demonstrated an ideology of misogyny. This paper will first define misogyny and discuss the Chinese femme fatale then evaluate the misogyny and patriarchal ideology that have been manifested in the notions of the scholars from the perspectives of both male and female.     在现代汉语中,“是……的”强调句式是常见又特殊的表达句式。其作用在于让说话者准确表达句子的重心,让听者迅速捕捉关键讯息,以达到有效的沟通。虽然使用频率高,但汉语学习者却屡屡出现使用偏误的现象。而针对“是……的”偏误现象的研究,许多学者都着重于美国、澳洲、英国等英语为母语的汉语学习者,以新加坡学生为对象的研究却寥寥无几。为了理解新加坡学生对“是……的”句式的掌握程度,本研究通过收集新加坡初级学院学生的作文语料,分析其偏误类型,并且结合新加坡语言环境的概况,探讨出现偏误的可能原因。研究结果显示,在使用“是……的”句式时:(一)新加坡学生最常出现的偏误类型是“缺省”,其中又以缺省“的”的现象最严重。(二)在英语强调句式负迁移的影响下,新加坡学生无法彻底掌握“是……的”句式的使用规则,对“的”的用法尤其不理想。(三)新加坡学生所采取的简化和回避策略,加剧了“缺省”偏误现象。希望本研究能为新加坡教育工作者在“是……的”句式教学上提供参考,提升新加坡学生对“是……的”句式的掌握程度,以达到更有效地沟通。The shi…de construction in Mandarin Chinese functions to identify the focus of a message conveyed by the speaker. Albeit how common and frequent this construction is used in Mandarin, the construction is often used with errors by Mandarin learners. Current studies on the misuses of the shi…de construction are mainly targeted at Mandarin learners from English speaking countries like the US, Australia, and UK. Little research has been conducted among students in Singapore.This study aims to analyse the usage of shi…de among junior college students in Singapore based on their writing samples. The research focuses on the types of erroneous usage, taking into account the Singapore context, and discusses the possible causes leading to the errors. There are three major findings in this study: 1. Omission is the most frequent error among Singapore students; more specifically, the missing of de in the construction is the most commonly seen error. 2. The negative transfer of English focus construction into Mandarin may have affected the students’ command of shi…de. 3. The adoption of simplification and deliberate avoidance strategies may have also contributed to the omission errors.This thesis hopes to serve as a reference for the teachings of the shi…de construction in Singapore.     光华戏院于上世纪20年代已出现,亦为新加坡日战前最早的有声戏院之一,同时也属早期首轮华语片的戏院。该戏院曾放映轰动一时的经典电影,如《误佳期》、《一江春水向东流》等都成为光华戏院的主要招牌,从而打响光华的名声。新加坡戏院历史悠久,早期的戏院更是不胜枚举,各家戏院都具有各自独特的特色,无论是在历史、电影、建筑、文化上等等,都有目共睹。然而,现今社会今非昔比,许多旧时戏院已默默地走进了历史,小坡大马路之光华戏院乃其中之一。本文首先将列出研究意义及方法,如王鹏翔先生所提供的第一手资料、《南洋商报》电影广告等,之后将会列出新加坡光华戏院的历史发展,并分为三大时期,即日战前、日佔时与日战后。第二章主要分析光华戏院战前至战后的院线,探讨光华与各家戏院的合作关系以及合作时期所放映的电影。第三章则是光华与两大影业机构邵氏戏院与国泰戏院之间的院线,探讨光华戏院与两院之间的关系。最后,将会对此课题作出总结和提出未来的研究方向。In the history of Singapore cinemas, Jubilee Theatre or Kwang Hwa Theatre was located at North Bridge Road was one of the first sound cinemas running first run films in Singapore dated back in the 20th century. Jubilee Theatre successfully made its name by screening some of the popular films example wujiaqi, yijiangchunshuixiangdongliu,. Back in the 1930s, during the booming industry of cinemas, each cinema possessed their own unique characteristics based on their history, movies, architecture, culture which were gradually being recognized by the masses. However, as society advanced, cinemas could not keep up with the fast rising pace, which eventually led to the demise of many cinema buildings including the Jubilee Theatre. This article will begin by stating the significance of this research and the main resources used to aid in this research, for example, the first hand articles written and provided by Mr. Wang Tai Peng as well as movie advertisements, newspaper articles from Nanyang Siang Pau. Thereafter, the article will provide a detailed outline of the history and development of Jubilee Theatre. 2nd chapter will then focus on the network of Jubilee Theatre from pre-war to post-war by defining the key concept of ‘theatre chain’ with reference to the movies screened during the collaboration. Besides forming networks with various cinemas, Jubilee Theatre’s most prominent collaboration would be with the Shaw Brothers and Cathay Organisation, hence the relationship between the three cinemas will also be analyzed in the 3rd chapter. The article will then end off with a conclusion and also to propose a status for future research of this topic. Bachelor of Arts

    韩素音,著名的当代英籍欧亚裔作家,以小说与传记见长,其1917年生于河南信阳,祖籍四川成都,2012年11月2日于瑞士逝世。韩素音出生于中国大家庭,父亲是中国人,而母亲是比利时人,其从幼年时代始,便在两种语言与文化间游移穿梭。韩素音的成长孕育了其“边缘”与“离散”的生命特征,除了在血缘上是欧亚混血,其三段婚姻中亦有两段是异族通婚。由此,其常有被边缘化的深刻感受,更有扮演中西间桥梁的强烈渴望。 韩素音虽经历跨界离散,但却花费其一生致力于跨越国籍、文化、族裔和性别的樊篱,富有亚洲意识地极力维护中国文化。曾一度面临政治上的何去何从、生活上无处安身的艰难抉择,然而韩素音最终仍选择成为不同国度(中西)之间穿梭游走的“搭桥”角色,更自愿亲近中国大陆的新兴政权。其身为欧亚裔而对中华文化的归属认同,于中国历史、社会、文学界中是一有趣且复杂的案列,实具研究价值。 本文将集中以韩素音的主要文学作品为探讨对象,聚焦于其传记性书写,拟以「离散」、「混杂性」、「国族」、「女性主义」等作为立论基础,进而勾勒出韩素音对于中国与西方、家国与流离、华人与其他族裔之间复杂的关系网络思考,进而探索其自身与文学作品中不同深度的「中国性」。Han Suyin (1917-2012) was a famous British-Eurasian author. She was born in China, with her father being Chinese and her mother being Belgian. Han Suyin had grown up within the environment of the two different languages and cultures, resulting in the cultivation of “border” and “diasporic” concepts as her life characteristics. In addition to having mixed Chinese and European ancestry, she went through two inter-racial marriages, and had travelled between countries such as China, Europe, Malaya, India and Switzerland throughout her entire life. Therefore, she always felt socially excluded but yet held strong desires to help connect the East and the West. Despite experiencing transnational diaspora, Han Suyin devoted her entire life into crossing the boundaries between different nations, cultures, race and gender, and upholding of the Chinese culture. Han Suyin had once faced difficult choices in politics and livelihood, however she eventually chose to become the connection between different countries and willingly support the Chinese regimental changes. Her acknowledgement towards China and her awkward identity as a Chinese-European, is an interesting yet complicated case within China’s history, society and literature, and is of meaningful research value. However, most of the research regarding Han Suyin were discussed within the historical and social contexts, and there is a lack of studies regarding her literature works. This thesis aims to focus on Han Suyin’s sinophone literature, with a special attention on her autobiographies (as well as her other writing of biographies) . These works will be discussed using various theories such as “diaspora”, “hybridity”, “cultural identity”, “nationalism” and “feminism” as the research basis to outline Han Suyin’s thoughts regarding the relationships between China and the West, home and displacement, and Chinese and other races. The degree of “Chinese-ness” in her literature works will also be further explored. Master of Arts
