    We propose a simple method for recognizing potassium feldspar in rock thin sections. A potassium feldspar-stained thin section of granodiorite was used to evaluate the suitability of this method. The modal amount of stained potassium feldspar is 35.7%, measured by point counting on a color photomicrograph of granodiorite with a 32 x 32 grid of points. X-ray element-concentration maps of an area covering the same 32 x 32 grid of points are obtained from a micro-XRF apparatus. A grayscale image is generated by the subtraction of a concentration map of Fe from a concentration map of K. The modal amount of bright areas (K-rich and Fe-poor) is 36.0%, measured by point counting on the grayscale image. The results indicate that the proportion of potassium feldspar is recognizable by micro-XRF element-concentration mapping. A 32 x 32 grid of points is set on a color photomicrograph of sandstone. X-ray element-concentration maps and a grayscale image are obtained by the same process as mentioned above. The modal amount of bright areas, indicating potassium feldspar, is 6.0%, measured by point counting on the grayscale image. There is no need of chemical treatment, mirror-finishing, and conductive coating on rock thin sections for micro-XRF element-concentration mapping.     Numerical data of thermal convective dynamics obtained by OpenFOAMR software are projected onto three-dimensional space defined by the Lorenz system. The projection successfully conserves macroscopic properties of asymptotic behaviors of original dynamics such as approaches to a fixed point, limit cycle, or chaotic attractor.     鹿児島大学 博士(保健学) Doctor of Philosophy in Health Science 博士論文全文, 博士論文要旨, 最終試験結果の要旨, 論文審査の要旨 Background: Food preferences and oral health of older adults greatly affect their nutritional intake, and old-age–related increase in food neophobia may consequently reduce food intake in older adults. This study aimed to determine the impact of food neophobia and oral health on nutritional risk in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 238 independent adults aged ≥ 65 years (mean, 76.3 ± 7.3 years). The survey items included a Food Neophobia Scale, frequency of protein intake, oral-health–related quality of life (QOL) assessment, and oral diadochokinesis (ODK; /pa/, /ta/, /ka/) as an index of oral function. Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment®, and based on a cutoff value of 24 points, respondents were categorized as well-nourished (≥ 24 points, Group 1) or at risk of malnutrition (< 24 points, Group 2). A logistic regression model was used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (adj-OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) to identify risks factors for malnutrition associated with food neophobia and oral health. Results: Factors associated with the risk of malnutrition in the older population were higher food neophobia (adj-OR = 1.036, 95% CI: 1.007–1.067) and lower oral function (OR = 0.992, 95% CI: 0.985–0.999) and lower oral-health–related QOL (adj-OR = 0.963, 95% CI: 0.929–0.999). Conclusions: Older adults at risk of developing malnutrition may have higher food neophobia and lower oral function and oral-health–related QOL. Factors contributing to preventing malnutrition include predicting the risk of malnutrition based on the oral health indicators that older people are aware of, signs appearing in the oral cavity, minor deterioration, and providing dietary guidance about food neophobia. Notably, these approaches represent novel strategies for nutrition support that can be implemented based on a multifaceted understanding of the eating habits of older adults. The differentiation of naïve CD4+ T cells into Th17 cells depends on glycolysis as the energy source. CD147/basigin, an integral transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, regulates glycolysis in association with monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs)-1 and -4 in cancer cells and T cells. We examined whether CD147/basigin is involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis in humans and psoriasis-model mice. The serum level of CD147 was increased in patients with psoriasis, and the expression of CD147 and MCT-1 was elevated in their dermal CD4+ RORγt+ T cells. In vitro, the potential of naïve CD4+ T cells to differentiate into Th17 cells was abrogated in CD147−/− T cells. Imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriatic dermatitis was significantly milder in CD147−/− mice and bone marrow chimeric mice lacking CD147 in the hematopoietic cells of myeloid lineage. These findings demonstrate that CD147 is essential for the development of psoriasis via the induction of Th17 cell differentiation.     We propose a simple method for recognizing potassium feldspar in rock thin sections. A potassium feldspar-stained thin section of granodiorite was used to evaluate the suitability of this method. The modal amount of stained potassium feldspar is 35.7%, measured by point counting on a color photomicrograph of granodiorite with a 32 x 32 grid of points. X-ray element-concentration maps of an area covering the same 32 x 32 grid of points are obtained from a micro-XRF apparatus. A grayscale image is generated by the subtraction of a concentration map of Fe from a concentration map of K. The modal amount of bright areas (K-rich and Fe-poor) is 36.0%, measured by point counting on the grayscale image. The results indicate that the proportion of potassium feldspar is recognizable by micro-XRF element-concentration mapping. A 32 x 32 grid of points is set on a color photomicrograph of sandstone. X-ray element-concentration maps and a grayscale image are obtained by the same process as mentioned above. The modal amount of bright areas, indicating potassium feldspar, is 6.0%, measured by point counting on the grayscale image. There is no need of chemical treatment, mirror-finishing, and conductive coating on rock thin sections for micro-XRF element-concentration mapping. This study aimed to determine the impact of food neophobia and oral health on nutritional risk in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 238 independent adults aged ≥ 65 years (mean, 76.3 ± 7.3 years). The survey items included a Food Neophobia Scale, frequency of protein intake, oral-health–related quality of life (QOL) assessment, and oral diadochokinesis (ODK; /pa/, /ta/, /ka/) as an index of oral function. Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment®, and based on a cutoff value of 24 points, respondents were categorized as well-nourished (≥ 24 points, Group 1) or at risk of malnutrition (< 24 points, Group 2). A logistic regression model was used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (adj-OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) to identify risks factors for malnutrition associated with food neophobia and oral health. Results: Factors associated with the risk of malnutrition in the older population were higher food neophobia (adj-OR = 1.036, 95% CI: 1.007–1.067) and lower oral function (OR = 0.992, 95% CI: 0.985–0.999) and lower oral-health–related QOL (adj-OR = 0.963, 95% CI: 0.929–0.999). Conclusions: Older adults at risk of developing malnutrition may have higher food neophobia and lower oral function and oral-health–related QOL. Factors contributing to preventing malnutrition include predicting the risk of malnutrition based on the oral health indicators that older people are aware of, signs appearing in the oral cavity, minor deterioration, and providing dietary guidance about food neophobia. The differentiation of naïve CD4+ T cells into Th17 cells depends on glycolysis as the energy source. CD147/basigin, an integral transmembrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, regulates glycolysis in association with monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs)-1 and -4 in cancer cells and T cells. We examined whether CD147/basigin is involved in the pathogenesis of psoriasis in humans and psoriasis-model mice. The serum level of CD147 was increased in patients with psoriasis, and the expression of CD147 and MCT-1 was elevated in their dermal CD4+ RORγt+ T cells. In vitro, the potential of naïve CD4+ T cells to differentiate into Th17 cells was abrogated in CD147−/− T cells. Imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriatic dermatitis was significantly milder in CD147−/− mice and bone marrow chimeric mice lacking CD147 in the hematopoietic cells of myeloid lineage.
