lle danskere over 50 år og særligt sårbare kan per 1. oktober få et boosterstik med coronavaccinen. Det er et led i Sundhedsstyrelsens nye vaccinationsplan for efteråret, som jeg skrev om forleden.Men hvilke vacciner bliver vi vaccineret med? Er de tilpasset, så de dækker de seneste mutationer af coronavirussen? Hvordan får vaccineproducenterne en ny vaccine godkendt? Og ikke mindst – hvor tit skal vi vaccineres mod COVID-19?Jeg er professor i vaccinedesign og vil efter bedste evne forsøge at besvare disse spørgsmål i denne artikel.

In times of the Covid-19 pandemic, many congregations had to stop celebrating the Eucharist or find new ways to do so – one of these being online Eucharist services in synchronous and diachronous settings. The article describes developments in the Protestant Churches of Germany and shows that the interplay of theology and church practices is essential. On the background of the fundamental dialectics of absence and presence in (Christian) liturgy and Luther’s writings on the Lord’s Supper, the article proposes two axes that open up a ‘field’ of diverse ritual practices: community and gift. Many different ways of celebrating the Lord’s Supper seem to be possible in this field – also celebrations in synchronous digital settings (video conferences). The Covid-19 crisis is seen as a chance to rethink sacramental theology and ways of celebration – in the context of a permanent change of liturgical practices.

Viroporins are ion channels found in many viruses, where they contribute to virus life cycle and thereby pathogenesis. Viroporin targeting is a known, yet largely unexplored, therapeutic strategy so far only used in Influenza A with the drugs amantadine and rimantadine. In this review, we seek to utilize the inhibition by amantadine of the viroporin Protein E in SARS-CoV-2 in an attempt to treat COVID-19 in its early stages. We are executing a double-blinded placebo-controlled trial based on promising in vivo and in vitro work as a stepping-stone for establishing a therapeutic antiviral regime: blocking of viroporins.

Mechanisms of COVID-19-induced lung injury involve complex immunopathological events which are currently being elucidated. Studying immune mechanisms at the primary site of injury, i.e. the lower airways, are particularly informative. This review provides a brief introduction to the methods used to perform sampling from the lungs of critically ill patients with COVID-19, key immunopathological findings and a discussion on how immunosuppressants may exert their effects locally.

During 2020, an increase of functional tics in children and adolescents has been observed. In this review, we present phenotypes, differential diagnosis and treatment for functional tics. We discuss potential contributing causes, like the COVID-19 pandemic and the focus on tics on social media. Functional tics are more complex than tics seen in Tourette syndrome and develop more suddenly in relation to stressors mainly in teenage girls. Psychosocial issues and comorbidities must be addressed and treated by a multidisciplinary team through psychoeducation and if necessary, cognitive-behavioural therapy.

CrossFit er en af de hurtigst voksende fitnessbevægelser i Danmark og kendetegnet ved udøvernes intense workouts samt den høje grad af interaktion mellem deltagerne. Grundet COVID-19 pandemien og de tilhørende restriktioner har det ikke været muligt for CrossFit udøvere at opretholde deres vante træningsrutiner. Med afsæt i Randall Collins’ teori om interaktionsritualer undersøger artiklen, hvordan CrossFit udøvere har oplevet de forandrede træningsmuligheder, som COVID-19 nedlukningen og de efterfølgende restriktioner medførte, samt hvilken indflydelse de nye træningssituationer har haft på CrossFit fællesskabets sammenhængskraft. Artiklen understreger den store betydning, som ansigt-til-ansigt relationer har for idrætsdeltagelse, der ikke kan erstattes af digitale træningsmuligheder.

While the Danish Health Authority has withdrawn the vaxzevria vaccine from the Danish vaccination programme due to reports of rare cases of severe side effects, this case report presents a potential beneficial side effect of this vaccine. A patient presented, three days after her first jab, with localized itching and bleeding from a pigmented tumour on her lower leg, which was therefore excised, and, unexpectedly, diagnosed as a melanoma. We speculate if the vaccine-induced immune reaction resulted in increased immune activity within the tumour environment, and thus facilitated the early diagnosis of melanoma.

International research points to an increase in mental-health problems related to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially among people aged 65+ living with chronic illness. This is cause for concern, as mental-health problems are already widespread in this population group and can exacerbate chronic conditions. In this article, we shed light on how the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 affected the mental health of older people with chronic illness in Denmark. We emphasize the importance of psychological support and regular contact with the health sector, as this can reduce the psychological burden associated with the pandemic. In preparation for a future pandemic or other crisis, we call for a national strategy that can promote the mental health of older people with chronic illness.
