    This article introduces a novel collaborative optimal motion planning framework for parallel aerial 3D printing. The proposed novel framework is efficiently capable of handling conflicts between the utilized Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), as they follow predefined paths, allowing for a seamless enhancement of aerial 3D printing capabilities by employing multiple UAVs to collaborate in a parallel printing process. The established approach ingeniously formulates UAVs’ motion planning as a multi-constraint optimization problem, ensuring minimal adjustments to their velocities within specified limits. This guarantees smooth and uninterrupted printing while preventing collisions and adhering to the requirements of aerial printing. To substantiate the effectiveness of our proposed motion planning algorithm, an extensive array of simulation studies have been undertaken, encompassing scenarios where multiple UAVs engage in the fabrication of diverse construction shapes. The overall novel concept is being extensively validated in simulations, while the obtained results promise for enhancing the viability and advancing the landscape of aerial additive manufacturing.     There has been increasing growth in incorporating fly ash as a supplementary cementitious material in concrete mixtures due to its potential to enhance the durability and strength properties of concrete. However, there is a lack of research on predicting the depth of wear of fly ash-based concrete. The laboratory methods available for estimating the depth of wear often involve destructive and expensive tests. Therefore, to avoid costly and laborious tests, this study utilized two machine learning methods, including multi-expression programming (MEP) and gene expression programming (GEP), to predict the depth of wear of fly ash-modified concrete. A comprehensive dataset of 216 experimental records was compiled from published studies for model training and validation. This extensive dataset encompasses the depth of wear as the target variable, along with nine explanatory parameters, namely fly ash, cement content, fine and coarse aggregate, water content, plasticizer, age of concrete, air-entraining agent, and testing time. The models were trained with 70% of the data, and the remaining 30% of data was used for validating the models. The models were developed by a continuous trial-and-error process and iterative refinement of hyperparameters until optimal results were achieved. The efficacy of the models was assessed via multiple statistical indicators. Furthermore, the SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) was utilized for the interpretability of the model prediction from both global and local perspectives. The GEP model exhibited excellent accuracy with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.989 (training) and 0.992 (validation). Similarly, the MEP model provided prediction accuracy with R values of 0.965 and 0.968 for training and validation sets, respectively. In addition, the MEP and GEP models outperformed the traditional multi-linear regression model. The SHAP interpretation revealed that testing time and age have a higher contribution in determining the depth of wear. The findings of this study can assist practitioners and designers in avoiding costly and laborious tests for durability assessment and promoting sustainable use of fly ash in the construction sector.     We study a nonlinear coupled parabolic system with non-local drift terms modeling at the continuum level the inter-species interaction within a ternary mixture that allows the evaporation of one of the species. In the absence of evaporation, the proposed system coincides with the hydrodynamic limit of a stochastic interacting particle system of Blume–Capel-type driven by the Kawasaki dynamics. Similar governing dynamics are found in models used to study morphology formation in the design of organic solar cells, thin adhesive bands, and other applications. We investigate the well-posedness of the target system and present preliminary numerical simulations which incorporate ‘from the top’ evaporation into the model. We employ a finite volumes scheme to construct approximations of the weak solution and illustrate how the evaporation process can affect the shape and connectivity of the evolving-in-time morphologies

    This study investigates the thermal and energetic dynamics of primary school classrooms in a Mediterranean climate in Khoualed Abdel Hakeem, Ain Temouchent County, Algeria. The research highlights significant optimizations by focusing on passive strategies such as external shading devices, Window-to-Wall Ratio (WWR), glazing types, and building envelope adjustments. Our simulations, validated rigorously, showcase a remarkable congruence with actual electricity consumption, affirming the reliability and efficacy of our simulation model as a valuable predictive tool. A Vertical Shading Angle (VSA) of 60° proves optimal, resulting in an impressive 11% reduction in Annual Energy Consumption (AEC). A recommended WWR of 30% demonstrates an 11% decrease in AEC and improves thermal and energy efficiency. Double Low Emissivity (Double-Low E) glazing is found to be superior, resulting in a significant 14% decrease in AEC. Achieving a WWR of 50% in shaded areas helps maintain a well-balanced thermal environment, resulting in a 12% reduction in heating and cooling requirements. The integration of passive strategies in the optimized model showcases a remarkable 44% overall reduction in energy consumption. The results highlight the efficacy of passive strategies, promoting energy-conscious and ecologically responsible practices, advocating for their incorporation in educational facilities, and offering valuable insights for sustainable school building design.     The interest in artificial intelligence (AI) in education has erupted during the last few years, primarily due to technological advances in AI. It is therefore argued that students should learn about AI, although it is debated exactly how it should be applied in education. AI literacy has been suggested as a way of defining competencies for students to acquire to meet a future everyday- and working life with AI. This study argues that researchers and educators need a framework for integrating AI literacy into technological literacy, where the latter is viewed as a multiliteracy. This study thus aims to critically analyse and discuss different components of AI literacy found in the literature in relation to technological literacy. The data consists of five AI literacy frameworks related to three traditions of technological knowledge: technical skills, technological scientific knowledge, and socio-ethical technical understanding. The results show that AI literacy for technology education emphasises technological scientific knowledge (e.g., knowledge about what AI is, how to recognise AI, and systems thinking) and socio-ethical technical understanding (e.g., AI ethics and the role of humans in AI). Technical skills such as programming competencies also appear but are less emphasised. Implications for technology education are also discussed, and a framework for AI literacy for technology education is suggested.

    This paper examines the various solar photovoltaic technologies available in India. Seven commercially available photovoltaic technologies are compared using thirteen criteria that mainly contribute to sustainability, such as social, economic, and environmental, along with technical criteria under various conditions. Three distinct cases were developed (case I: considering all the thirteen criteria, case II: considering twelve criteria and freezing LCOE criteria, and case III: considering twelve criteria and freezing efficiency criteria) to determine the best technology available for multiple stakeholders to invest in at different conditions. The assessment integrates grey system theory, fuzzy set theory, and multi-criteria decision-making methods. The grey and fuzzy-based Analytical Hierarchy Process is used to determine the significance of the criteria. In contrast, the grey and fuzzy-based COmplex PRoportional ASsessment is used for ranking these technologies. According to the results, the most favorable technology in all three cases is Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) if developed in the Indian zone. The CdTe technology has a lower levelized cost of electricity and module cost, high efficiency, and, most importantly, high technological maturity compared to other technologies. © 2024 The Authors

    This study investigates the perceptions of three Swedish stakeholders towards the contested use of waste incineration bottom ash as aggregates outside landfills: waste producers, users and authorities. The interview study shows that the stakeholders lack incentives to circulate bottom ash. Waste producers have a functional outlet for bottom ash by using it as landfill cover. Since the transition from gravel to crushed rock, the availability of natural aggregates is enormous in Sweden at low environmental and economic costs. This causes the potential users of bottom ash to prioritize conventional aggregates. In cases where waste-based aggregates are nevertheless used, they are taken from project-internal sources. Hence, there are few incentives for the authorities to change the currently unfavorable regulations for using bottom ash as aggregates. With unclear environmental benefits and contested interests, the rationale for circulating bottom ash appears to be driven by morality. QC 20240214

    The human voice is notoriously variable, and conventional measurement paradigms are weak in terms of providing evidence for effects of treatment and/or training of voices. New methods are needed that can take into account the variability of metrics and types of phonation across the voice range. The “voice map” is a generalization of the Voice Range Profile (a.k.a. the phonetogram), with the potential to be used in many ways, for teaching, training, therapy and research. FonaDyn is intended as a proof-of concept workbench for education and research on phonation, and for exploring and validating the analysis paradigm of voice-mapping. Version 3.1 of the FonaDyn system adds many new functions, including listening from maps; displaying multiple maps and difference maps to track effects of voice interventions; smoothing/interpolation of voice maps; clustering not only of EGG shapes but also of acoustic and EGG metrics into phonation types; extended multichannel acquisition;24-bit recording with optional max 140 dB SPL; a built-in SPL calibration and signal diagnostics tool; EGG noise suppression; more Matlab integration; script control; the acoustic metrics Spectrum Balance, Cepstral Peak Prominence and Harmonic Richness Factor (of the EGG); and better window layout control.     Plant-based food alternatives have increased in popularity, particularly plant-based meat alternatives, while plant-based cheese alternatives less so. However, their acceptance remains low in Europe. Food choice motives (FCM) and trust towards alternative proteins may contribute to purchasing plant-based food alternatives, while other FCM and barriers can hinder this. The present study aimed to investigate whether FCM focused on “Environment & ethics” and “Intrinsic product quality” are associated with behavioural intentions towards plant-based meat and cheese alternatives, and specifically investigating the mediating role of perceived barriers to plant-based food consumption and trust towards plant-based alternative proteins. A survey was conducted in 10 European countries (AT, DE, DK, ES, FR, IT, NL, PL, RO, UK) with quotas on age and gender (N = 7588). Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to determine factors associated with behavioural intentions towards plant-based meat and cheese alternatives. Results showed that “environmental & ethical” motives are positively associated with intentions to consume plant-based alternatives to meat (in 6/10 countries) and cheese (in 8/10 countries). “Intrinsic product quality” motives were not directly associated with behavioural intentions towards plant-based meat alternatives. However, country differences were observed for effects of “Intrinsic product quality”. Perceived barriers to plant-based food consumption and trust towards plant-based alternative proteins play a significant mediating role among all 10 countries. The implications are that environmental and ethical motivations could contribute to effectively promoting plant-based alternatives to meat and dairy. High sensory quality for plant-based meat and cheese alternatives is needed to build trust.

    A multigraph $G$ is an $(s,q)$-graph if every $s$-set of vertices in $G$ supports at most $q$ edges of $G$, counting multiplicities. Mubayi and Terry posed the problem of determining the maximum of the product of the edge-multiplicities in an $(s,q)$-graph on $n$ vertices. We give an asymptotic solution to this problem for the family $(s,q)=(2r, a\binom{2r}{2}+\mathrm{ex}(2r, K_{r+1})-1 )$ with $r, a\in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 2}$. This greatly generalises previous results on the problem due to Mubayi and Terry and to Day, Treglown and the author, who between them had resolved the special case $r=2$.     This article introduces a novel collaborative optimal motion planning framework for parallel aerial 3D printing. The proposed novel framework is efficiently capable of handling conflicts between the utilized Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), as they follow predefined paths, allowing for a seamless enhancement of aerial 3D printing capabilities by employing multiple UAVs to collaborate in a parallel printing process. The established approach ingeniously formulates UAVs’ motion planning as a multi-constraint optimization problem, ensuring minimal adjustments to their velocities within specified limits. This guarantees smooth and uninterrupted printing while preventing collisions and adhering to the requirements of aerial printing. To substantiate the effectiveness of our proposed motion planning algorithm, an extensive array of simulation studies have been undertaken, encompassing scenarios where multiple UAVs engage in the fabrication of diverse construction shapes. The overall novel concept is being extensively validated in simulations, while the obtained results promise for enhancing the viability and advancing the landscape of aerial additive manufacturing.     There has been increasing growth in incorporating fly ash as a supplementary cementitious material in concrete mixtures due to its potential to enhance the durability and strength properties of concrete. However, there is a lack of research on predicting the depth of wear of fly ash-based concrete. The laboratory methods available for estimating the depth of wear often involve destructive and expensive tests. Therefore, to avoid costly and laborious tests, this study utilized two machine learning methods, including multi-expression programming (MEP) and gene expression programming (GEP), to predict the depth of wear of fly ash-modified concrete. A comprehensive dataset of 216 experimental records was compiled from published studies for model training and validation. This extensive dataset encompasses the depth of wear as the target variable, along with nine explanatory parameters, namely fly ash, cement content, fine and coarse aggregate, water content, plasticizer, age of concrete, air-entraining agent, and testing time. The models were trained with 70% of the data, and the remaining 30% of data was used for validating the models. The models were developed by a continuous trial-and-error process and iterative refinement of hyperparameters until optimal results were achieved. The efficacy of the models was assessed via multiple statistical indicators. Furthermore, the SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) was utilized for the interpretability of the model prediction from both global and local perspectives. The GEP model exhibited excellent accuracy with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.989 (training) and 0.992 (validation). Similarly, the MEP model provided prediction accuracy with R values of 0.965 and 0.968 for training and validation sets, respectively. In addition, the MEP and GEP models outperformed the traditional multi-linear regression model. The SHAP interpretation revealed that testing time and age have a higher contribution in determining the depth of wear. The findings of this study can assist practitioners and designers in avoiding costly and laborious tests for durability assessment and promoting sustainable use of fly ash in the construction sector.     We study a nonlinear coupled parabolic system with non-local drift terms modeling at the continuum level the inter-species interaction within a ternary mixture that allows the evaporation of one of the species. In the absence of evaporation, the proposed system coincides with the hydrodynamic limit of a stochastic interacting particle system of Blume–Capel-type driven by the Kawasaki dynamics. Similar governing dynamics are found in models used to study morphology formation in the design of organic solar cells, thin adhesive bands, and other applications. We investigate the well-posedness of the target system and present preliminary numerical simulations which incorporate ‘from the top’ evaporation into the model. We employ a finite volumes scheme to construct approximations of the weak solution and illustrate how the evaporation process can affect the shape and connectivity of the evolving-in-time morphologies
