    Authors: Rizzo, Giorgio;

    The conception of art embraced by the American philosopher Nelson Goodman is founded on the notion of “symbol”. Symbols, interpreted within sign systems, allow a comprehension less or more intelligible of the different cultural worlds which are accessed through our cognitive practices. Thanks to his nominalist and constructive approach, the notion of art is imbued with a conceptual relativity, an unrealistic pragmatism and an ontological inflationism. Goodman’s strong conventionalism, however, prevents him from investigating into those subjective conditions that are relevant to the creation and the appreciation of a work of art.

    Authors: Borutti, Silvana;

    The article explores the graphic works of Giancarlo Consonni, focusing on two of his recent publications: Incantamenti 1991-1998 and Apparenze e graffiti 1982-2001. It examines how Consonni’s works capture the viewer’s imagination through their delicate interplay of forms and colors, encouraging a phenomenological engagement with the artwork. The article draws connections between Consonni’s approach and philosophical concepts from Jean-Luc Marion and Ludwig Wittgenstein, emphasizing the transformative power of art to awaken a sense of wonder and meaning.

    Authors: Piparo, Carlo;

    Il rapido progresso e la vasta integrazione delle tecnologie dell’Informazione e della Comunicazione hanno inaugurato una nuova era di profonde trasformazioni sociali e legali. Tra le numerose innovazioni, l’Intelligenza Artificiale (IA) è emersa come una risorsa cruciale, permeando quasi ogni aspetto della vita quotidiana. La sua forza permea tutta la società da commercio ed industria a sanità, trasporto ed intrattenimento: le tecnologie dell’IA sono così diventate strumenti indispensabili che plasmano il modo in cui interagiamo, lavoriamo e ci muoviamo. Sebbene l’IA abbia un grande potenziale, la stessa potrebbe arrivare a minacciare la democrazia e i suoi principi se utilizzata in modo improprio. Infatti, le Costituzioni italiana e spagnola proteggono i fondamentali diritti di libertà degli esseri umani (libertà fisica, libertà di parola, associazione, riunione, ecc.) come base principale per sviluppare il discorso e il dialogo democratico. In questo scenario, l’IA potrebbe potenzialmente aggirare questa tutela, minacciando la democrazia rappresentativa. Questo articolo descrive -in primis- il concetto di IA e discute i suoi benefici per la società. In secondo luogo, si concentrerà sui principi alla base della democrazia rappresentativa (così come appaiono nella Costituzione italiana) e mette in evidenza le potenziali minacce algoritmiche verso la democrazia rappresentativa. In terzo luogo, questo articolo evidenzia possibili soluzioni per contrastare tali minacce algoritmiche. The rapid progression and widespread integration of Information and Communication Technology have ushered in a new era of sweeping social and legal transformations. Among the many groundbreaking advancements, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a pivotal force, permeating nearly every facet of our daily lives. From commerce and industry to healthcare, transportation, and entertainment, AI technologies have become indispensable tools shaping how we interact, work, and navigate the world. While AI holds great potential, it could threaten democracy and its principles if misused. Indeed, the Italian Constitution protects humans' fundamental rights of freedom (physical freedom, freedom of speech, association, reunion, etc.) as the main base to develop the democratic discourse and dialogue. AI, in this scenario, can potentially bypass this fundamental protection, representing a major threat to representative democracy. This article first describes the concepts of AI and discusses its benefits for society. It then focuses on the principles of representative democracy as they appear in the Italian Constitution and highlights potential algorithmic threats towards representative democracy itself. Finally, the paper offers possible solutions to counter algorithmic threats to democracy.

    Having defined the fundamental characteristics of limpieza social, the systematic killing of marginal subjects in Colombia, this research explores the role played by the State in the preparation of favorable conditions for the development, legitimacy, and maintenance of the practice. It analyzes the fundamental attributes of the extreme violence that social cleansing expresses. The study tries to understand this phenomenon by examining the connection between sovereignty, delimitation of political space, borders, human rights, and citizenship Definite le caratteristiche fondamentali della limpieza social, l’uccisione sistematica in Colombia di soggetti marginali, lo studio analizza il ruolo svolto dallo Stato nella predisposizione di condizioni favorevoli allo sviluppo, alla legittimazione e al mantenimento della pratica e le particolari forme di violenza che in essa si esprimono. L’analisi del fenomeno è poi lo spunto per una riflessione sul rapporto fra sovranità, pratiche e dispositivi di delimitazione dello spazio politico, diritti umani e cittadinanza

    L’articolo analizza alcune caratteristiche di due gruppi criminali brasiliani: il Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) [Primo Comando della Capitale] e il Comando Vermelho (CV) [Commando Rosso]. Presenta il contesto delle disuguaglianze sociali e gli aspetti che permettono la riproduzione di questi gruppi attraverso il traffico di droga, la detenzione e le loro azioni al di là dell’attività criminosa nelle comunità. The article analyzes some characteristics of two Brazilian criminal organizations – Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) [First Command of the Capital] and Comando Vermelho (CV) [Red Command]. It addresses the context of social inequalities and the aspects that allow the reproduction of these groups through drug trafficking, incarceration, and their actions beyond crime in communities.

    Authors: Fiamingo , Cristiana;

    Anche se la recente ricusazione della dottrina della scoperta da parte del Vaticano è davvero benvenuta, il silenzio in merito a qualsiasi responsabilità politica per quelle bolle papali, vecchie di 500 anni, che autorizzavano le potenze coloniali a impadronirsi delle terre indigene, significa che la battaglia è vinta solo a metà. Ancor più negativamente, il fatto che il Vaticano abbia evitato ogni riferimento al collegamento tra i crimini di massa avallati contro i non cristiani e le loro conseguenze, indica che il bersaglio è stato mancato. Le bolle, infatti, sono state emanate dai «rappresentanti di Dio sulla Terra» e una tale negazione implicita è una debolezza strutturale che difficilmente potrebbe completare quella «architettura della riconciliazione» a cui si dice Papa Francesco miri. Questo saggio si propone di rievocare le testimonianze storiche della responsabilità diretta e indiretta del Papato, discutendo le circostanze che sono all'origine dell’organizzazione gerarchica di questo mondo, che ha avuto un impatto non solo sul continente americano ma anche su quello africano, con conseguenze permanenti su generazioni dei suoi popoli e dei loro discendenti nella diaspora. Although the Vatican’s recent rejection of the doctrine of discovery is indeed welcome, its silence on any political responsibility for those 500-year-old papal bulls that authorized colonial powers to seize indigenous lands means that the battle is only half won. Worse still, the Vatican’s avoidance of any connection between the mass crimes endorsed against non-Christians and their consequences indicates that it is missing the point. As the bulls were issued by «representatives of God on Earth», such an implicit denial is a structural weakness that could hardly round off the «architecture of reconciliation» Pope Francesco is said to be aiming at. This essay aims to recall historical evidence of the Papacy’s direct and indirect responsibility while discussing the circumstances lying at the origins of the hierarchical organization of this world, which impacted not only the American but also the African continent, with permanent consequences for generations of its peoples and their descendants in the diaspora.

    This is a presentation held during an internal conference within the LIDERLAB seminars cycle. The object of the presentation is the author's research project, funded by a PNRR scholarship in Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. The aim of the presentation is to introduce the reader to the project. In no ways it intends to exhaust the topic, which will require the next years to be developed.

    Authors: Rispoli, Micol;

    Despite differences in historical contexts and issues to be addressed, the word together – as well as the words society, community, and the like – is a common thread of past and present concerns and ambitions in architecture. In recent years, together and togetherness have acquired even greater relevance due to the development and spread of participatory design. However, even when making the value of diversity explicit, a widespread tendency remains to consider the common good abstractly and generically. This article focuses on the contribution of Science and Technology Studies to such issues. In particular, the material-semiotic lines of insight of Actor-Network Theory and feminist technoscience complexify the implications of participation, broadening the range of actors that have to be accounted for and also multiplying situations that may destabilize predefined and unquestioned understandings of the common. In light of these stimuli, interesting pedagogical experiments in design studio courses inspired explorations of mine during a research stay in Berlin.

    Authors: Rizzo, Giorgio;

    Authors: Borutti, Silvana;

    Authors: Piparo, Carlo;

    Il rapido progresso e la vasta integrazione delle tecnologie dell’Informazione e della Comunicazione hanno inaugurato una nuova era di profonde trasformazioni sociali e legali. Tra le numerose innovazioni, l’Intelligenza Artificiale (IA) è emersa come una risorsa cruciale, permeando quasi ogni aspetto della vita quotidiana. La sua forza permea tutta la società da commercio ed industria a sanità, trasporto ed intrattenimento: le tecnologie dell’IA sono così diventate strumenti indispensabili che plasmano il modo in cui interagiamo, lavoriamo e ci muoviamo. Sebbene l’IA abbia un grande potenziale, la stessa potrebbe arrivare a minacciare la democrazia e i suoi principi se utilizzata in modo improprio. Infatti, le Costituzioni italiana e spagnola proteggono i fondamentali diritti di libertà degli esseri umani (libertà fisica, libertà di parola, associazione, riunione, ecc.) come base principale per sviluppare il discorso e il dialogo democratico. In questo scenario, l’IA potrebbe potenzialmente aggirare questa tutela, minacciando la democrazia rappresentativa. Questo articolo descrive -in primis- il concetto di IA e discute i suoi benefici per la società. In secondo luogo, si concentrerà sui principi alla base della democrazia rappresentativa (così come appaiono nella Costituzione italiana) e mette in evidenza le potenziali minacce algoritmiche verso la democrazia rappresentativa. In terzo luogo, questo articolo evidenzia possibili soluzioni per contrastare tali minacce algoritmiche. The rapid progression and widespread integration of Information and Communication Technology have ushered in a new era of sweeping social and legal transformations. Among the many groundbreaking advancements, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a pivotal force, permeating nearly every facet of our daily lives. From commerce and industry to healthcare, transportation, and entertainment, AI technologies have become indispensable tools shaping how we interact, work, and navigate the world. While AI holds great potential, it could threaten democracy and its principles if misused. Indeed, the Italian Constitution protects humans' fundamental rights of freedom (physical freedom, freedom of speech, association, reunion, etc.) as the main base to develop the democratic discourse and dialogue. AI, in this scenario, can potentially bypass this fundamental protection, representing a major threat to representative democracy. This article first describes the concepts of AI and discusses its benefits for society. It then focuses on the principles of representative democracy as they appear in the Italian Constitution and highlights potential algorithmic threats towards representative democracy itself. Finally, the paper offers possible solutions to counter algorithmic threats to democracy.

    Having defined the fundamental characteristics of limpieza social, the systematic killing of marginal subjects in Colombia, this research explores the role played by the State in the preparation of favorable conditions for the development, legitimacy, and maintenance of the practice. It analyzes the fundamental attributes of the extreme violence that social cleansing expresses. The study tries to understand this phenomenon by examining the connection between sovereignty, delimitation of political space, borders, human rights, and citizenship Definite le caratteristiche fondamentali della limpieza social, l’uccisione sistematica in Colombia di soggetti marginali, lo studio analizza il ruolo svolto dallo Stato nella predisposizione di condizioni favorevoli allo sviluppo, alla legittimazione e al mantenimento della pratica e le particolari forme di violenza che in essa si esprimono. L’analisi del fenomeno è poi lo spunto per una riflessione sul rapporto fra sovranità, pratiche e dispositivi di delimitazione dello spazio politico, diritti umani e cittadinanza

    L’articolo analizza alcune caratteristiche di due gruppi criminali brasiliani: il Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) [Primo Comando della Capitale] e il Comando Vermelho (CV) [Commando Rosso]. Presenta il contesto delle disuguaglianze sociali e gli aspetti che permettono la riproduzione di questi gruppi attraverso il traffico di droga, la detenzione e le loro azioni al di là dell’attività criminosa nelle comunità. The article analyzes some characteristics of two Brazilian criminal organizations – Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) [First Command of the Capital] and Comando Vermelho (CV) [Red Command]. It addresses the context of social inequalities and the aspects that allow the reproduction of these groups through drug trafficking, incarceration, and their actions beyond crime in communities.

    Authors: Fiamingo , Cristiana;
