Ženy studovaly právnické fakulty a vykonávaly tomu i odpovídající praxi, a to zejména praxi advokátní. Women have generally been permitted to study law properly at university since the late 19th century. The first country to allow women to study at university level was the United States of America. In Europe, it has been possible for women to study law at the universities and practise it, particularly as attorneys-at-law, later than in the USA, but with equal success.

With increasing urbanisation, understanding the variety of historical experience with water in the urban context becomes all the more relevant. Apart from representing an economic and environmental necessity, the physical and sensory access to freshwater is universally understood as socially desirable, pleasing and valued. The history of the East African coast is especially relevant as water scarcity is not a modern phenomenon in the region—in fact, precolonial towns situated on the oceanfront flourished in relatively arid environments too. This paper presents the insights achieved with a 3D scanning survey of the preserved heritage in the now-deserted town of Jumba la Mtwana, located 20 km north of Mombasa, Kenya. Although all of the buildings are partially collapsed, various wells, cisterns and reservoirs have been documented. Considering this archaeological site and other examples of (pre)colonial Swahili towns, this paper adopts multidisciplinary perspectives in analysing and interpreting the distribution of constructed features associated with water, with particular focus on their design, density and spatial context, as well as social and sensory connotations. Its results highlight the socio-spatial role of the element of water in the precolonial built environment, which may be contrasted with later periods and potentially carry broader implications for current urban development.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Conference object 2023 Czech Republic CzechZápadočeská univerzita v Plzni Authors: Kroupová, Bohumila;Kroupová, Bohumila;Marie Terezie chtěla, kromě jiných reforem, také provést reformu školství v Rakousku Uhersku. Maria Theresa wanted, among other reforms, to make an education reform of the Austrian-Hungarian empire. She called Jan Felbiger, who became the main promoter of the new concept of teaching. He proposed modern methods for his time, such as the use of textbooks or student assessment. In schools, however, teaching was more frontal and mass. Methods in the various subjects were not discussed; subject didactics had only just begun to develop. Later, from the middle of the 19th century onwards, various experimental and progressive schools arose, which paid attention to the methods of the subjects and the schools underwent changes. One of the main changes was the introduction of an experimental approach to the teaching of physics. Previously, physics had been taught mainly through theoretical explanations and calculations. The new approach focused on the practical demonstration of physical principles through experiments and observations. Another significant change was the introduction of modern pedagogical methods such as individualised teaching. Teachers tried to adapt instruction to the needs of individual students rather than forcing a uniform approach for the whole class. The changes have led to an improvement in the teaching of physics in the primary schools and a greater interest in the subject among students. Modern teaching methods have made physics more accessible and fun, and teaching has become more interesting.

For further information contact us at helpdesk@openaire.eudescription Publicationkeyboard_double_arrow_right Article 2023 Czech Republic CzechZápadočeská univerzita v Plzni Authors: Kovář, Daniel;Kovář, Daniel; The paper provides a new hypothesis on the localization of the deserted castle in the town of Lomnice, which was a prominent settlement of the Vítkovci noble family in the 13th and 14th centuries. The seizure of the castle by the Hussites in 1420-1435 and unsuccessful attempts at its capture led Oldřich of Rožmberk to abandon the castle. The Gothic chapel founded in 1359 remained intact. However, urban and archeological findings do not point to the fact that it was a physical part of the deserted castle. We suggest searching for its core roughly 110 to 180 meters farther north on the site of a distinct cluster of houses, which can be considered to be the ground-plan trace of a medieval settlement.

Contemporary Trends in Physics Teacher Education is a scientific conference with international participation (so far, foreign participants participated on all conferences, both passively or actively, from Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia). Conference is intended for experts dealing with theoretical questions of didactics of physics, as well as teachers from all levels and types of schools, including faculties preparing physics teachers. The first conference took place at the Srní Hotel in the village Srní in the Klatovy District in April 2003. The ninth one was held in April 2019 at the Šumava Hotel in the Amálie Valley near Kašperské Hory. Due to pandemic measures, the tenth conference had to be postponed multiple times (originally scheduled for April 2021, traditionally held every two years in an odd year). The venue had to be changed as well (the Šumava Hotel in the Amálie Valley has been closed to the public for an extended period and it is designated for the purposes of the Ministry of the Interior). Therefore, participants gathered in late April and beginning of May 2023 at the same place where it all started 20 years ago. Let us now recall each conference and see some statistics.

It also deals with the finding of a stone console on the tower and its interpretation. Published archaeological material was also used. The detailed survey was supplemented by published historical reports. Subsequently, the castle served as an important settlement and fortified point of the Lords of Pernštejn. Abandonment of the castle did not occur until the second half of the 15th century.
