    Inhalt des Repositoriums sind die CAD-Konstruktionsdaten, die Schaltdiagramme sowie die Steuersoftware des sogenannten "UNSAT-Pi", einem miniaturisierten Apparat zur Ermittlung der einaxialen Druckfestigkeit teilgesättigter granularer Böden. Die Miniaturisierung erlaubt den Einsatz des Versuchsapparates innerhalb eines Computertomografen zur gleichzeitig bildgebender Erfassung der Versuchsdurchführung. The content of the repository is the CAD design data, the circuit diagrams and the control software of the so-called "UNSAT-Pi", a miniaturised apparatus for determining the uniaxial compressive strength of partially saturated granular soils. The miniaturisation allows the use of the test apparatus within a computer tomograph for simultaneous imaging during testing.

    In an interdisciplinary project, creative concepts for care robotics were developed. To explore the design space that these open up, we discussed them along the common differentiation of physical (effective) and social-emotional assistance. Trying to rate concepts on these dimensions frequently raised questions regarding the relation between the social-emotional and the physical, and highlighted gaps and a lack of conceptual clarity. We here present our design concepts, report on our discussion, and summarize our insights; in particular we suggest that the social and the physical dimension of care technologies should always be thought of and designed as interrelated.

    Four-dimensional (4D) printing is a technology that enables material functions to be introduced into components in an additive manufacturing (AM) process. For example, the use of shape memory polymers allows the fabrication of thermoresponsive objects. The associated gain in functionality offers several advantages. For example, a high degree of control over thermosponsiveness can be achieved. It also eliminates the need for time- and energy-consuming thermomechanical treatment that is often required for shape memory polymers; the thermoresponsive objects can be taken directly from the printer. Here we report on our latest approaches to manufacturing thermoresponsive objects using fused filament fabrication. We consider particularly exciting the possibilities of producing objects with one-way or two-way shape memory effects, the latter being a technology that has only recently become available. In this respect, 4D printing can be understood as a key technology for the production of the next generation of programmable materials. In the future, their reuse in 4D printing or other polymer processing methods can further increase their sustainability and thus initiate important steps towards a circular economy for functional materials with comparable property profiles. The technology emerged in the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Programmable Materials CPM (PSP element 40-01922-2500-00002).

    Die Enzyklopädie Recht und Literatur / Encyclopedia of Law and Literature erschließt die interdisziplinäre Forschung zu den Wechselwirkungen zwischen Recht und Literatur in internationaler, rechts- wie literaturvergleichender Perspektive in deutscher und in englischer Sprache. In ausführlicheren Sachartikeln werden zentrale Teilbereiche des Themenfeldes und wichtige Aspekte des Verhältnisses von Recht und Literatur historisch und systematisch beleuchtet. Diskursprägende literarische Texte sowie Forschungsbeiträge zum Themenfeld "Recht und Literatur" werden zudem durch Personenartikel zu einschlägigen Autoren erschlossen. Neben der durchgehenden Aufarbeitung der einschlägigen englisch- und deutschsprachigen Forschung legt die Enzyklopädie besonderes Augenmerk auf internationale Austauschprozesse im europäischen Rahmen sowie über diesen hinaus. The interdisciplinary Encyclopedia of Law and Literature provides a comprehensive, reliable and authoritative reference to accumulated and current knowledge and research in the field of law and literature. It explores this interdisciplinary research field in its full depth and from a comparative perspective including comparative law as well as comparative literature. Central areas in the field, major concepts and important aspects of the relation between law and literature will be covered in substantial articles, in a historical as well as in a systematic perspective. Relevant literary texts or authors, legal cases and influential research contributions will also be discussed. In addition to a continuous review of relevant research in English and German, the encyclopedia pays special attention to international exchange processes within as well as beyond the European framework.

    Electrochemical energy conversion technologies play a crucial role in space missions, for example, in the Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) on the International Space Station (ISS). They are also vitally important for future long-term space travel for oxygen, fuel and chemical production, where a re-supply of resources from Earth is not possible. Here, we provide an overview of currently existing electrolytic energy conversion technologies for space applications such as proton exchange membrane (PEM) and alkaline electrolyzer systems. We discuss the governing interfacial processes in these devices influenced by reduced gravitation and provide an outlook on future applications of electrolysis systems in, e.g., in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) technologies. A perspective of computational modelling to predict the impact of the reduced gravitational environment on governing electrochemical processes is also discussed and experimental suggestions to better understand efficiency-impacting processes such as gas bubble formation and detachment in reduced gravitational environments are outlined.

    Dr. David Löw Beer diskutiert in seinem Beitrag die Frage, ob mehr Beteiligung zu mehr Klimaschutz führt? Dabei diskutiert er die Ziele von Beteiligung in modernen Demokratien und auch zentrale Argumente der Kritik an Beteiligung. Hierbei zeigt er anhand des Beispiels einer Umgehungsstraße, unter welchen Voraussetzungen Beteiligung und Klimaschutz Hand in Hand gehen und wann dies nicht der Fall oder eher Zufall ist. Ist Lärmschutz das oberste Ziel und kommt Klimaschutz dabei gar nicht vor, kann das Beteiligungsergebnis deutlich klimaschädigend sein: »Klimaschutz muss von Anfang an (ein) Ziel eines Beteiligungsprozesses sein.« Dr. Löw Beer leitet die Forschungsgruppe Regionale Nachhaltigkeitstransformationen und ist Sprecher für den Bereich Demokratie und Nachhaltigkeit am IASS Potsdam.

    Trophic magnification factors (TMFs) have been derived in a variety of different aquatic eco-systems worldwide to investigate accumulation patterns of environmentally relevant chemicals. The TMF is defined as a metric that describes the average trophic magnification of a chemical through the analyzed food web under realistic environmental conditions. Not only is the TMF interesting for chemicals’ risk assessment related questions, but also for monitoring aspects under the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). This study is the first TMF study con-ducted in a German freshwater ecosystem, that is, Lake Templin near Potsdam. Aim of the study was to investigate the food web magnification following existing guidance to derive reliable TMFs that could be used for regulatory purposes. A sampling campaign yielded 15 biota samples covering about three trophic levels, which have been processed and cryo-preserved following standardized protocols of the German Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB). The samples remain available for future analysis and, thus, form a “food web on ice”. These large-scale food web samples are ready-to-use for a broad variety of analyses. In a first step, a plausibility check was performed. Different persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which are known to magnify in food webs and are not readily metabolized, serve as benchmarks. It could be shown that for nearly all of the POPs analyzed, the TMFs are significantly above 1. In a few cases, an enrichment is also seen, but not statistically relevant. Since not only POPs with lipophilic accumulation properties were analyzed, it could be concluded that the food web on ice samples from Lake Templin can be used to characterize the trophic magnification potential of further substances with less investi-gated bioaccumulation properties present in the samples. To this end, several PFAS, pharmaceu-ticals, pesticides and methyl siloxanes were investigated in the samples to derive their TMFs.

    A test concept for bioconcentration tests with the freshwater amphipod Hyalella azteca (HYBIT) was recently described. It was shown that the Hyalella bioconcentration factors (BCFs) derived for compounds with different hydrophobic characteristics (log Kow 2.4 - 7.8) show a strong correlation to those from fish tests. This project was carried out to elucidate the suitability of the HYBIT test for testing an extended range of substance classes including difficult to test compounds and, if required, to further enhance the test concept. The bioaccumulation potential of highly lipophilic UV stabilisers and ionic organic PFAS as well as silver, titanium dioxide and gold nanomaterials were tested. The two possible set-ups to conduct bioconcentration studies with H. azteca using a semi-static test set-up or a flow-through approach were applied. The solvent-facilitated and solvent-free application of the hydrophobic test compounds were compared. Due to the difficulties regarding the aqueous exposure of nanomaterials, biomagnification studies were also carried out as part of this project. We could show that the HYBIT approach permits the application of difficult to test compounds and enables to derive bioaccumulation endpoints for regulatory assessment. Due to the shorter exposure periods required, and the smaller experimental units used, the HYBIT approach provides several advantages in comparison to the flow-through fish test. As a non-vertebrate test, the Hyalella bioconcentration (or biomagnification) test may help to further reduce the amount of fish required for the regulatory testing of chemicals.
